I guess misery loves company and this thread swims in it.

Not at all...he should have been dropped to find form and if he didn't shouldn't have been picked.
It will be interesting to see selection policy next year with these young guys vying for spots.

Well what an opportune time to take a dump on your head. :stern look

For someone who can't even bear the thought of our home kit slightly changing, I'm surprised you are happy to see finished so-called club champs play for rival clubs rather than just retire gracefully.

Happy? Did I say that? I said I couldn't begrudge Petrie for chasing a dream. You have a tendency to jump to conclusions. Like how Petrie was "purely" playing on for the coin and that I was "happy" to see Petrie play on with another club. I suggest you think a little more before you post. :stern look

Chasing a dream is being on a rookie list for West Coast?

Sounds more like a player that can't let go to me. Of course it's his choice and good luck to him.

Didn't you know that Spud is playing for Strathmore for free, because he's not about the dollars?

Like they are similar situations.

Many AFL players when finishing up get a few $ playing for a local league. Good on them.

Petrie, Boomer and the StK reject demanding an answer on their future despite our impending finals campaign says a lot about their interest over club, and his decision to play for Weagles when clearly finished suggests he is not like Spud at all.

Petrie and co demanding an answer on their future despite our (pathetic) finals campaign says a lot about their interest over club, and his decision to play for Weagles when clearly finished suggests he is not like Spud at all.

And a lot of these locals clubs get run into the ground by having to pay ex-AFL players beyond their means. When these ex players could easily play for nix. And you are assuming that Spud would have turned down another AFL club if they threw him a lifeline.

I don't get why you are so angsty about Dish playing for West Coast. It's not like he forced them to pick him up, they assessed what was out there for their needs in 2017 and made the decision that he was the best available. It may be the right or wrong decision but why should he turn them down to get well-paid to do something that he loves?

Should his decision making for himself and his family revolve around the feelings of an anonymous internet poster who keeps changing usernames?

And is every delisted free agent who gets picked up by another club, a greedy bastard who should know that his time is up? Should Farren Ray and Nahas have turned us down?

Dish might play no games for the Eagles. He might play 25 and in a flag. We decided not to offer him another contract, so I wish him all the best in whatever he chooses to do.

And just saw your edit. "The St K reject". You are all class.

can't blame them for wanting to know their futures asap.

In hindsight we should have told them earlier that it would be their last year regardless of how the season ended.

By the half way point surely we knew at least drew and spud were going to be pushed out

I don't agree.

Look at Enright and Bartel for Cats. Handled so smoothly and professionally, ours was ridiculous in comparison.

Sure we should have said earlier, but only because we assumed they'd know their shithouse play meant they couldn't go on.

Can't really plan for ridiculous expectations, as a club I think we did the best we could in the (unforeseen) circumstances.

Most AFL players like to prolong their career as long as possible and I don't begrudge them that as they will be a long time retired. I can't understand why some people make such a big fuss about it. I was surprised Petrie would move to West Coast as a rookie but I doubt if he would be doing it just for money- a rookie's wage is not all that much is it? I did wonder whether he has coaching ambitions down the track and maybe thinks experiencing another club would be good on his resume. Anyway, he gave his all for us and I hope he does well next year- except when they play us

The local clubs have to pay "beyond their means"? Interesting theory.

Yes I never warmed to Dal Santo. Amazing that means it refers to my "class", I didn't like his front running/soft play for them either, no doubt why they wanted him gone.

But yep, Petrie and co didn't put themselves ahead of the club at all heading into September and my username is important to discuss.... :rainbow:

Cool, you never warmed to him. We were lucky he chose us as a free agent, a three time All-Australian and Brownlow runner up, who was probably our best player in the 2014 finals campaign. But you carry on disrespecting him, even though he has contributed more to North than you ever will.

You sound like the sort of guy who thinks he has a right to decide who his ex sees after you break up.

Who cares what Drew does with the rest of his days? It's got 3/8 of sod all to do with anyone here, so I'm kind of bemused by the angst.

If he wants to continue on, I don't see why it's a matter of debate.

Yeah, you can put me down as another one in the bemused (and mildly amused) camp.

Can't for the life of me understand how people that have such scant information to go on, and absolutely no idea what it's like to face the same decision that Drew faced at the end of this season, can be happily doling out judgement on where his career goes from here.

Or worse, taking it a step further by using said scant information to build some dubious, 'case against' judgement regarding the bloke's motivations. That just seems like someone going out of their way to take a needless parting shot at a loyal clubman and much-loved 300-game player who did nothing but give his all for the North Melbourne Football Club (until being informed that his services were no longer required). Can't really fathom why anyone would bother spending their time and energy pushing that line. Seems a little on the unnecessarily petty side to me.

Either way, what we think on this forum is mostly of little consequence. In this particular instance, even less so.

For sixteen years, for 316 games, the bloke put everything on the line for us. He gave us some of the best and most memorable moments of recent years. He never complained, and never asked anything of us.

Back him in. Whatever call he makes. He has earned it.

6 first qtr goals against the Western Chameleons in Arch's 300th and those 2 last qtr goals in the EF vs * should get you brownie points for life.

Will always be North.

I'm backing Drew in here. has earned the right to go on. not holding any grudges against him, was a great servant of the club and typified what North is all about. great bloke to boot too. Good luck in the West Drew (But don't have a good game in rd 1)

I hope that Drew at least finishes his last couple of seasons with success. He gave so much to us but we need to consider that he was let go for a reason. The Roos coaching staff know exactly what his injury status is and they would have had a fair say in the Roos final decision to let him go. o_O

I agree.
