You will be very nervous no matter when you do the test. Testers know it as well and they understand.

If you make a mistake, don't panic. For example, if you stall the car, just be calm and get it started again. The tester is also testing you on how you recover and react.

Be conservative - if you are driving in a 60 zone, just drive under that limit. It is better to be too careful.

You suckers have to get a manual license in Victoria. Don't have to worry about that in SA.

Dont get distracted by anything, not even your hot sister walking by naked with your father...oh wait youre in Victoria not S.A

 Pretty sweet ay!

Make sure yu check your mirrors (make it visibly obvious to the tester), and look both directions before crossing/entering an intersection. A lot of bull shit, but you have to do it to pass. :thumbsd:

ahh....no you don't! Automatic and Manual licenses are available here in Victoria. Automatic licenses also transfer to a normal license after a few years.

What do you mean by that?

I thought that to drive a manual in Victoria you had to do the test in a manual. Going by your second sentence you don't have to after your p's.

In SA you do the test in an automatic and with this license you can drive either.

I Victoria you do the test in either a manual or an automatic. If you do it in a manual, you can drive both. If you do it an an automatic you can only drive automatic untill you are off your Ps. Then you can drive either regardless.

Do the test in an Auto. Will save a hell of a lot of time and money. Driving lessons are a rip these days anyway. $40 per hour when I had mine 4 years ago, probably well over $50 per hour by now?

I'm going for my P's soon, and I'm still trying to decide whether to do my test in an automatic or a manual. My car I have now is an auto.
There's one side of me that thinks manual would be better in case of an emergency, but theres also the other side that thinks stuff it, auto would be way easier.
What do you guys reckon?

They were $30 four years ago where I live, Now they are around $55-$60.

I don't know how it works in Perth in regards to driving a manual with an automatic license, as to whether it's the same as Melbourne and you can after your P's.

I did my test in an Automatic, and now drive a manual. I can do this in South Australia because they don't distinguish.

If you can change to a manual after you're off your P's, do it in an auto.

If you can't, I'd do it in a manual.

In Perth, You can only drive a manual if you have taken your test in a manual, regardless if your on or off your Ps.

Yeah, it was pretty embarrasing for one of my school mates when he failed his auto test 3 times and can't drive manuals... Pretty pointless getting an Auto license unless you are completly crap at driving.

if it was an emergency, im sure you could work it out pretty quickly.

Just do the manual test. It's just more beneficial to get the manual licence.

Raikonnen was too lazy to do his and is always trying to defend his actions in these type of threads.

Get a manual license. No matter what these auto weirdos say, we manual drivers know more about driving.

And yeah, in WA if you don't do your test in a manual you can't ever drive one (unless you do the test again). If you learn on a manual, you will know how to do it forever, and you will better understand how a car runs etc.

Too lazy? It was just cheaper to do it that way, a lot less lessons. I know how to drive manual...and guess what, IMO it was better learning to do that after, because you have the confidence on the road (being able to pick gaps in traffic etc), and your are basically just learning a new skill.

FWIW, I do drive auto normally. Its the same car I am driving now, that I learned (with my parents) in...a 1996 Holden Apollo. Whenever my brother takes it to work to service it (he is a mechanic), I take his car...a manual.

I got my Probationary Licence yesterday, I was friggen extatic, it was my first go too, I had a score of 8 out of a possible 10 errors, 1 point for a 5 move 3 point turn, 3 for turning a little wide on turns and 1 each for mirror and signal checks.

I got it on an Auto, I have tried Manual but was pretty shit and was just way to much to think about while driving, I just want to get from point A to point B, and in the easiest way possible.

The main reason I was so excited about passing was because I haven't driven much at all(Under 20 hours), don't worry though I am going thinking of taking a couple of lessons even though I have my P's, I'll probably do lessons in both Auto and Manual just so I know I can do it if an emergency and after it converts to Full anyway, but mainly because I don't have a car yet, and don't have near enough money to get one for a while, so I would like to get quite good before I do go out properly on my own.

If I can give any advice for going on the test is try to act as confident as possible, look in the mirror before turning and braking, and DON'T HIT THE CURB.

BTW on the lesson cost, I managed to get lessons for myself at a rate of $35 an hour and I think they are about the same with the RACV.

Mate ... if you're already confident enough about your driving, get some practice driving solo. You'll find it is alot more different that driving with a parent/instructor and the first 5-6 months after you get your Ps is when you learn the most.

If you're not that confident then fair enough, get a few more lessons.
