Mate ... if you're already confident enough about your driving, get some practice driving solo. You'll find it is alot more different that driving with a parent/instructor and the first 5-6 months after you get your Ps is when you learn the most.

If you're not that confident then fair enough, get a few more lessons.
Well it is mainly because I don't have a car to drive, and I already have lessons bought from before I went for my test, I wanted to get my test done before these new licencing rules come in and was planning about 5 lessons before, but when I rang up to book them they were all booked out, so I had to go to an independent one.

Also i want to get some lessons driving a Manual.

When I was getting tested I heard "Turn left at these lights." But I was a bit stupid... It was a turning lane, quite a distance before the lights.. So I ignored it and went up to the lights, thinking that I'd turn left there. I wasn't able to.

So I went straight... Now I was off the course and any mistakes I made wouldn't count against me.

She had me turn right into a court. So I drove up into the bowl of the court and completed a 3 point turn in the middle of the bowl... Still not being tested at this point...

I make my way back onto the course, and we're obviously well behind time.

I find myself at a 4 way intersection. No lights. No round a bout.

So I'm at a stop sign. And I need to turn right.

There is a car opposite me. He also needs to turn right.

We complete our right hand turns at the same time and my instructor tells me to pull the car over. She tells me that what I did was wrong and gives me an automatic fail.

My instructor argues that what I did was right.

This arguement continued for about 5 minutes and he was drawing diagrams and everything.

Finally she just said... "lets go back to Vicroads."

I don't remember what kind of results I got. But I never did an official 3 point turn or reverse parking or whatever...

I never finished my course.

But I was awarded my P's and am now a 24 year old rating 1 driver who hasn't been in a crash so I guess she made the right choice.

I got my manual license the other day. The lady was more excited that I was a girl going for a manual license than anything else. She told me I was the first for the day.
I lost a couple of points on mirrors and one on progress I think but besides that it was all good.

lol except when I was doing my three point turn... I forgot to put the car in reverse (obviously a nerves thing) and took me a couple of goes to realise why the car wouldn't go backwards but I didn't go on the kerb so I didn't even lose a point for it.

Other than that it was all good and I am just relieved it's over!!

You will be very nervous no matter when you do the test. Testers know it as well and they understand.

If you make a mistake, don't panic. For example, if you stall the car, just be calm and get it started again. The tester is also testing you on how you recover and react.

Be conservative - if you are driving in a 60 zone, just drive under that limit. It is better to be too careful.
I got in trouble for driving 45 in a 50 zone:confused: Still passed but:thumbsu:

 Pretty sweet ay!

Make sure yu check your mirrors (make it visibly obvious to the tester), and look both directions before crossing/entering an intersection. A lot of bull shit, but you have to do it to pass. :thumbsd:

how in the hell is checking your mirrors and looking both ways BS???

u hit any bikers yet d!ckhead?

:thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

You have to be really really obvious when you look. I think he just meant you have to do everything perfectly in front of the testers in order to pass - even though as soon as you start driving, you won't do everything as perfectly.

I would also recommend learning to drive a manual! It is really fun, plus you will learn more about your car, especially on longer drives. And you will use less petrol...well once you have stopped over revving your engine you will use less petrol :p

Going for my P's this Saturday.

I had a question regarding switching lanes. I was with a driving school which told me that in any given time you must always be on the left lane unless overtaking. I then had lessons with a different school who said that it's recommended to be on the left lane but not compulsory, hence implying that I could still drive on the right lane without losing points. Anyone wanna fill me in?

Any tips other than the previous mentioned would be helpful.

Cheers

im goin for mine 2moz, and im telling ya ive had about 4 months of lessons and im still nervous as, just dont wanna fail coz 1 its a 3 month wait till i can go again and 2 i will get the new laws if i fail...

You will be fine dUkez just pretend you are driving by yourself, don't think the instructor is either there. Since when is there a rule where you fail you can't go again for 3 months? I am from SA, is this just in Victoria/NSW?

Good thing for me I did log book so there was no way in hell that I would fail it.

its idiotic teachers like this that cause road rage and crashes. always go left lane, unless ur overtaking or speeding, dont become a w***er that sits on the speed limit in the right lane with nothing to their left. u are likely to be assaulted or run off the road one day.

and if u do choose to sit right, dont try and be a hero and tap ur brakes when someone is tailgating, just MOVE OVER TO WHERE YOU SHOULD BE.

this is only relevant on freeways or roads that are 100 speed limit, anything lower is a free for all.

Very good advice there, listen to the man.

Just stay cool. Don't pass your test then forget everything you have learnt and turn into another ____wit on the roads :)

just watch it words out testors have been told to test more harshly so more p platers are on the new laws

im booked in for august 6th, doesnt really bother me now about passengers and such but im thinking couple months into it its gonna sh*t me

I think the thing to be careful about is not to speed. It's remarkably easy to forget about how fast you're going. Get into the habit of checking the speedometer.

Also it doesn't really matter if you fail. The worst that can happen is you'll be embarrassed but otherwise just do the test again after you fail. Unless you're really horrible you'll eventually pass.

My main problem is driving with my hand either a) resting on the window b) on the gearstick or c) in my lap. Can't help it, really bad habit, don't even realise I'm doing it. My driving school dude used to get real pissed off.

Yeah that was the same with me during my lessons, when stopped I would constantly fiddle, scratch or whatever, my instructor had to keep telling me to stop it otherwise when going for the test I would fail, thankfully we didn't stop much when going for the test, so no time to fiddle around.

Said it perfectly. Of course you have to check your mirrors and look both ways regularly. Just infront of an instructor you have to make it so freakin obvious...and when you do...they tell you you took your eyes off the road.

That was 5 years ago anyway.

I'm so pissed about these new P Plate laws the government has introduced.

a) I don't have my second phase learner's yet, and after June 30, it is compulsory to have the second phase for 6 months before you are able to get your P's. So instead of being able to get my P's in November, just in time for Leavers, I have to wait until December at the earliest. F***'s sake!

b) My mates with their P's aren't allowed to drive between 12-5am. This means coming home from parties in the early morning is not allowed, forcing us to either crash at the house or getting our parents to pick us up.

its for your own safety. its a well known fact that p-platers make up a high percentage of road accident victims.

however in saying that, im glad i didnt have to put up with any of the new laws, it would have been rather annoying ;)

Couldn't you have got your learners earlier?

I think you'll find that's the point of the new laws... less young drivers with intoxicated people in their cars....

I'm born in November, and didn't get my L's until early December.

Theoretically, I could have got my second phase at the start of June, but that was just a while after I got my own car and started driving everywhere with Mum/Dad, so I would have probably failed. But now i'm much more able and would be able to pass my second phase, but can't get a booking in because of the mad rush.

So i'm stuck until December at the earliest.

Just called the Licensing centre then, to check if there were any cancellations. There were none, the earliest date I can go for my second phase is September 10.
The call operator said they had 30,000 calls regarding the drivers assessment test.

At least I know I'm not the only one who is pissed off at the government.
