dropping army

I don't see why it should, other than any difficulties matching up with somebody who is stronger overhead, and perhaps being more conscious of being goal side of your opponent...otherwise I don't see massive differences. Perhaps Carrazzo is doing such a good job week-in, week-out the MC see AJ's future down back...which might push Army out to competing with Bower, JR and Gibbs for a spot. While our midfield is strong I still see the advantages of using Bryce's decision making and ball use off HB

I suppose I was also coming from reading the play with the ball coming at you as opposed to camping on someone's arse in the midfield but you could be right re Carrots and the others in the backline. But I'm just finding it strange that Army has done that role well for us and if based on last week's game when hardly anyone did well I can't fathom why one was retained over the other when Army would normally play that role.

He's been going to ground far easier than he was early on in the season, where he contested brilliantly, even if he didn't mark it. Might be him just running under the ball but for mine his presence has been well down. Could very well be due to injury.

You would hope not. After hearing Joseph was only around 70% as well. We have much better depth this year and to overlook that for a few guys not quite right would be an epic fail on the MC's part. If Irish wasn't right Hendo surely would of came in after his 8 goal bag the week before.

Surprised with Army's omission, but perhaps he was the scape goat for the turnovers coming out of defense.
Hopefully Hendo and Yazz have an impact up forward, as our forward line hasn't been very potent of late.
Great to see Bower back, hopefully he says injury free....;), and it will be great to see Gibbs unleashed and back in the guts where he belongs. Lucas back too, really like the look of this young bloke.
Great IN's :thumbsu:

I wasn't really arguing either way to be honest. I've been out of action for various reasons and missed the North game and half of the Melb game

Then he should learn to deal with it. Its the Carlton football club and to get a game you have to be playing at 100%, i really like army but if hes dissapointed at being dropped he shouldnt run his mouth off, he should go back to the 2's and focus his dissapointment and get the best out of himself. no ones bigger than the club and no one should expect to play week in week out.

Blame the Herald-Sun and media street for Armfield's omission...

Too bad if he's furious.

Better players than Armfield have been dropped in recent years, so he needs to suck it up and get back onto the horse.

/cliche
Army certainly was not mouthing off. Told people close to him he would not be playing so they knew to alter plans etc if they needed to. As he has no injury etc he is obviously disappointed/grumpy call it what you will.
Army will be the 1st bloke to use it as further motivation to play well for the Ants and win back his spot. He did not expect to play but I doubt thinks he should be dropped either

Really disappointed for Army, if there are no match fitness issues he would've been the perfect match for Ballantyne and probably deserved to keep his spot more than another small defender based on last weeks performance. I have no doubt that out of anyone on the list this guy is made of the right stuff and he'll handle it the right way and come back even better for it.

As has been said, better players then Armfield have been dropped before and will continue to be in the future.

Few over-reactions in this thread IMO.

The MC makes decisions based on things we can only speculate on. If Ratten believes poor disposal is costing us games, then maybe the two worst users of it get dropped. We just don't know.

Armfield has been decent, but let's not overrate his performances. Far from un-droppable.

Only thing I have a problem with is that as I've said Joseph has been far worse than army this year... And last week was terrible on his part. Has joseph played a blinder like army did against pierce this year? I don't think so... Either way its happened and he will tear up in the ants and will no doubt be back in the coming weeks...

Amen!

The MC have administered the squad well to date, and I can't quite see why the uproar for Armfield.
I'd suggest Robinson would have as much reason as Army to get shirty for his ommission, but this is now the way things are done at CFC and I for one applaud them.
It's not as though we are exchanging glass for diamonds here as the ins were important to team balance, but I would be surprised though if Army, Robbo and Mclean are not around when we approach the serious stuff in 2 months time.

Joseph won't get dropped as we have a bye next week.He might get a game for the bullants if they play next week and probably play for us the week after.I think he have to play poor after the break now to get dropped.

As long as he gets back to basics like standing your man goal side when at a ruck 20 out from goal

Joseph should have been dropped, played like shit on Friday, a little pissed off that Army was dropped.

I can't quite see why the uproar for Armfield.

Because besides Judd (of course), no one can break lines with the same blistering speed. And he never lets up, look at the essendon game earlier this year. dons were pulling away, they get it inside 50 and dash it into their goal square where Army comes from nowhere and makes a goal saving tackle 3 metres out.

You cant buy that intensity. He's a clutch player and will be missed :thumbsd:

Where's the love for Robbo?? I don't recall such an hysterical, pathetic overreaction for a non-elite player being dropped....ever on this site :thumbsd:.

Where's the love for Robbo??

Robbo had a pretty bad corky, and a bad game, so people can understand why he is being left out. He had 3 great games prior to last week, but you shouldn't keep young guys in the side if they aren't close to 100%. He'll be back soon enough.

Plenty of love for Robbo from this quarter as there is for Armfield.
But I must say I have plenty of love for Yarran and Lucas also.

Again the notion of being dropped suggests to many that a player is viewed as not worthy of being in the starting group by the MC, when there may be many reasons not to our knowledge as to why he is not there.
We all better get used to the fact that now with 30 odd quality players there may be some frustrations for some of us not having our favourite players out there, but isn't that a good thing?

Perfect summary, I wish I had of tacked this on at the end of my post.

Spot on Harks :thumbsu:

Think his confidence is well down and believe that it is partly to do with how we structure some weeks. By this I mean that when we go defensive Setanta is pushed down the ground. Further even when he is in the forward zone the delivery is so slow coming in and also so un intelligent that he has the odds stacked against him. He is a confidence player and if supported will be a valuable forward for at least 3-5 years.
