Has the AFL dropped the ball, literally. In both the Western Bulldogs v Sydney Swans and the Richmond v Melbourne clashes this weekend the umpires' interpretation has been inconsistent and confusing (some would even argue one-sided). Rewarding good tackles is a key element of the game. Good tackles are all too frequently called 'play on' while technical free kicks are all too common.
