good pickup, will have to consider him now. Sort of forgot about him.

Something that also goes his way is the injuries to freo already.

With these reasonable possibilities

Pavlich - forward
Haselby - retired (Already happened)
Barlow - injured early rounds
Morabito - season (already happen)

All of a sudden come round 1 they could be missing 4 genuine midfielders that they had last year that they dont have this year.

Looking at Ibbo and Rhys for the same reason

Ibbo was one i had penciled in at the end of last year, but he seems to be a midfielder only is that right??

i thought he was a lock to be a defender

Suban doesn't find enough of it to be a DTr. Kicks long when he gets it, no 1-2s. Goes missing for extended period and borderline best 22.

Ibbo is headed for the midfield though ;)

cheers dogs.
not gonna go for ibbo. going for the guns/ rookies strategy in the midfield after a poor year last year

Seems like very slim pickings in the backline in the lower prices. Nowhere near the value there was last year around the 200k mark.

Thoughts on Malceski? Haven't heard much mentioned about him. Can rack up some big numbers, not too highly priced, although he does have the bye in Rd.19 (multi bye round). I guess he finished the season pretty poorly, and does have the odd sub 50 game. But there is no doubting his scoring potential.

Highly priced
Undurable
No Value or upside
plays both byes when 3 teams miss in that same week

NO THANKS

Ibbotson would be one of my favourites (and everyones) if he was still a backman. Would make an excellent backline selection (much like S.Selwood) and sounds the goods, but unfortunately the high scores in the midfiled mean you cannot possibly warrant his selection there.

Are people aware that the Swans long term plans for Malceski were to push him through the midfield? Not saying this will eventuate in 2011, but it might. If C.Bolton can be fit, he and LRT can play the two key talls and that can release grundy to a rebounding defender role (and/or third tall) which he has proven to be extremely capable of playing in the past (in short stints admittedly). This could also push Mal up into the midfield for stints, and he has been running very very well this PS. That said, relying on CBolton's fitness could be a challenge, and there is plenty of youngsters and olies to go through the midfield (Hanners / Jack / JPKennedy / Goodes (hopefully) / McVeigh / Okeefe (when fit), etc). Malceski does also struggling with a forward tag - he struggled a bit late in 2010.

Swannies are good if you're after a league win but that's about all Malceski has got going for him. At that price you'd be taking him as a keeper and for me there's better more consistent options. He's too much of a yoyo.

Yer I was one of those people that was planning on picking him up (going for league win) but dont like the up and down numbers he gets.. very Heath Shaw like.
Even if there are reports of rotating through the midfield in 2011.. (Malceski and Shaw) still quite risky.

what does everyone think of enright?

was tagged a bit last year could he be tagged more this year now that ablett is gone?

Could he go back to his midfield days with Ablett, Ling out. Could he play the ideal replacment role of quarterback that Ablett played in the guts.

They have some good young players developing down back and they had the ability to drop Mackie from the team, so maybe Mackie can come in and push Enright up the field with J.Hunt also playing a greater role down back. They will really need the other Hunt (Taylor?) to step up across halfback if this is to eventuate or happen.

Nick Duigan from Carlton.

26 years old, rumour has it that he was picked to play every game this year and that the coaches have been amazed at his skills during pre-season.

Would be a wise pickup as your 3rd sub provided he can push 60+ during NAB

Hes in my team, also i hear his preferried position for the blues next year is HBF, which means Gibbs midfield time.

Spot on. We recruited Duigan and Laidler, all mature bodied players who play HBF.

Gibbs will be a midfielder through and through next year, meaning he could pump 110s. Very good value if he gets DEF/MID dual position status.

The HBF's will be marshalled by Russell, Armfield, Laidler and Duigan. Tall defender positions will go to Jamison and Bower, with either Austin or Watson 3rd talls. So at least 3 of those HBF guys will be getting a gig.

Curious as to where Keith Scotland will line up this season?
Expect more time in defense, or will he push on into his usual midfield role?

Does anyone know if Cameron Bruce is listed as a defender? The prospectus has him as a defender. Could be a good pick up in a new side. Won't get tagged and unlikely to be playing backline.

The worry I've read is that he'll possibly be used as a tagger, or stints as a tagger. I know he did this at Melb and he still scored well but it's always a worry hearing that.

Been looking at Jason Gram.. Not so sure Gilbert will be the "premium" back for Stk (off-field distractions and might be thrown forward?)
So Grammy will pick up the slack. Had an interrupted season last year, so should be nice and cheap, a good pickup?

Also likes running around loose, going through the middle picking up uncontested possies.. even kicking goals.
Even if he doesnt turn out to be a keeper, should go up in price anyway.

Anyone knows how hes doing in the preseason? Hopefully running around with the midfield group?

Like Gram as a risk v reward type pick.
Consider if he looks to be running freely in the NAB.
