Seriously, people, he versed...

To be honest Bock played a pretty decent game. He has bulked up significantly from when this photo was taken - he is still skinny, but he doesnt look anorexic. Bellchambers was the impressive one for me. He matched Naita in most of the centre square ruck contests. They both had a similar leap when going straight up, but if Naita got an extra step in (bad bounce Bellchambers way) he would jump all over him. I reckon BC would have broken even in the HO's with NN.

LOL!

my Rucks ATM are Tippet and Hille with Lobbe and Trengove on the bench.

Unusual to have your most expensive ruck on the bench. Having had Johnson at the start of last year, when the door for the #1 ruck mantle was held wide open for him with the the retirement of White and injury to Jamar... he is the most frustrating player I have ever had, and IMO, a massive, massive DT spud.

Stewart scored 70 DT points today for the Power today. Do you guys reckon he is one to watch for the bench?

He is the forth Port Adelaide ruck I am considering. The problem is though, they cant all be scoring well at the same time.

Something to ponder.

doing what? i was agreeing with the other poster. man get a sense of humour

Paul Stewart (the defender) scored 70. Daniel Stewart (the forward) got 62. He'll be competing with Tredrea.

No effect on the rucking role unless Brogan shows his age.

You have got me thinking , Stewart maybe better value than Loobe as he can play key foward and we could afford to play him and Tredrea, given Tredders age he may get injured.

lol i knew at least someone would jump on Naitanui

He is not suited to DT, is playing against some shit house ruckmen, and is playing without Cox

I had naita on my to watch list from the start - i am most keen on seeing how he performs up forward as he'll be spending a lot of time up there.

The thing about naita - is that he'll be inconsistent - but he should get 6-8 tackles per game - and in games against the better teams where he won't be able to dominate the stoppages as much - he should be getting a lot more tackles.

I don't see it as unrealistic for him to get 32 points a game on tackles. add in 10 hitouts - and he's at 42 points before anything else.

My plan was to get one of hille or ottens and upgrade them to cox later in the season when they go up in value and cox comes back a bit - NN now falls in that group as a potential.

6-8 tackles per game would put him in elite company. Only nine players who played more than three games last year managed to average more than six tackles per game, and most of them were inside midfielders (Kirk, Cassisi, Sewell, Swallow, Bolton, Hayes). Very unlikely that a second year player with limited TOG is going to get those numbers on a regular basis.

Nic Nat will get time on ground.
That's not the issue.

It's whether he will be played in the position to best suit his talents.

If he's played in the forwad line, why couldn't he be a defensive demon and just tackle anyone with the ball? The Davey brothers were great at this, Rioli was as well. Nic Nat could revolutionise the forward tag role.

Having said that, he's not in my team. I think he'll average 60 to 65 max with Cox playing ruck. I'm spending a lot of my salary cap on two rucks in the hope that I don't need to trade up for others giving me a settled ruck setup. Unless I change my ruck setup/strategy (which I dont want to do right now), Nic Nat is not good enough to be a second ruckman choice and too expensive to be a bench option.

it would put him in elite company - but it is something that he has done in all of his footy from juniors up. His tackling has always been one of his major strenghts. i.e - i rate him as an elite tackler.

He won't get as much TOG in the guts - but i am keen to see if he can get as many tackles in the forward line

I still wanna see how Nic Nac goes against another good ruckman as well. Yeh he tore essendon up and he is gonna be a force in the future. Maybe he will be a force is year who knows.

I wanna see how he goes when he has to share the ruck duties with cox, and play against another good ruckman! Essendon didnt have Hille or Ryder playing. WIth that being said Nic Nat looked Dam good on friday night theres no denying that.

ANother interesting scenario could be if Nic Nac spends 70% of time in the ruck, Westcoast could dump Cox in the forward line with Lynch. Could be very dangerous for opposition and stretch most teams defensive lines. Cox has great skills and should be able to finish infrount of goal probably better than nic nak and would reduce cox's chance of injury.

Just another thing to think about!

If nic nac has some good games in the ruck and good opposition in the nab and hille hasnt been named, its gonna be hard to justify taking hillle as a second ruckman over nic nac!

yeah but they not gonna rotate cox and nat from the bench

Dave how do u go past sandi? if fit he will be rucking all year

Very hard to go past Sandi...but he is expensive and not really capable of Dean Cox like scores. There are guys up forward worth a lot less who will score similar to Sandi this year. There's just no one left in the rucks who will.

So I'm left questioning whether I look for value in the rucks and just look for an average of 60...or just get the best and be done with it.

Yep, i had sandi as lock but now i'm considering downgrading him to Kreuzer and spending the money down forward to upgrade someone like Gray to Brown.

Clark looks overly expensive this year especially if Charman stays healthy. If you like him I would imagine he would come down in price.

What are people thoughts on Mumford. Sydney play a ruck friendly game. Will he get number 1 ruck over Seaby

Hardly any talk of Mitch Clark, am i missing something.
I think there are three things to take into account here:
1. Desire
2. Durability
3. Opportunity

Desire: He stated last year he didn't want to be a ruckman; circumstances dictated he became one. Has this changed after last year?

Durability: 6, 4 and 12. These are the number of games he played between 2006-2008. That's a total of 22 out of 66 games: 33%. Last year was the first time he made a season without missing huge chunks with injury. Would be a brave bet to suggest he will do it again.

Opportunity: Charman out after Rd 4, Leuenberger out after Rd 3. That's the reason Clark gained an extra 25-30 points per week: hitouts. With Charman and Leuey back this year, he'll be splitting ruck duties at best.

What do people think of Jolly as a pick up? He is not exactly cheap but he should be a keeper, I feel like he will get almost all the ruck duties at Collingwood and they dont have that many talls so he may be a bit of a go-to man. Also he had a great season last year and seems like he has had a good pre-season. Thoughts?

mine
Cox
Charman
Warnock
Skipper

last year i made a mess of my rucks with an anti-Cox strategy of
Simmonds
Kreuzer
Graham
Pyke

Simmonds turned out to be a non-keeper and Kreuzer ended up being a keeper who only averaged 75. everyone else had Cox/Mcintosh averaging 105/90. i got killed in the rucks.

this year i'm definately starting with Cox.
