Your Thoughts on Ryan Lonie Career?

I thought he Promised so much but Delivered so Little.

Won a Rising Star Nomination in 01 or 02 and had fantastic Seasons up the 2003. 1 of the Best Kicks I seen at the Pies in the last decade but Once his Dad Died he seemed to lose his passion and badly fell away.

Your Thoughts?

No Game Points as I only listened to the game on ABC Radio:rolleyes:

Lonie was a great part of our 02 and 03 teams, but yes, once his Dad died, it seemed both he and his brother (Nathan?) lost their passion for the game, which is understandable.

Ryan was involved in one of the most famous passages of that 02 prelim, where he ran from defense and passed to Rocca for the famous match defining 65 metre bomb.

Why weren't you at the game or at least watching it Dave?

Don't think I could Control my loud Rants During a Final and The game was on Delay on the TV.

Also the Tickets are Expensive

I really liked the earlier part of his career but injuries hurt.

Early like McGough was tipped to be the next Nathan Buckley. Labelled (the lone ranger) in his early days.

Loved his booming kick and run out of defence. Would fit so nicely into a modern day team with what he could do. Would really thrive in the high interchange game we have today.

His trademark play of running from the back 50 to about 60/65m out from goal on the run and blasting away is something he could churn out regularly. Real weapon.

At the time I was in love with anyone who could kick 60 + and still do have a soft spot for those who can.

Had a good career. Would have loved for him to have developed into a star though. Loved his game!

That is the loudest I've ever heard the MCG.
He also kicked a 60 metre trademark running goal against Melbourne on Queens Birthday in about 03 or so, best goal I can remember him kicking.

Why are we discussing Ryan Lonie though? He's been gone for a couple of years...

that 2002 prelim was the loudest game ever!

I used to like Lonie too.

His kicking was exceptional and game breaking
The 02 prelim was against Port..NO? (correction that was the QF in 02) we beat them in the Prelim in 03.
Either way Lonie had a big say in both wins.
He was horribly maligned late in his career and suffered the indignity of being voted "most courageous player" by the entire Bears Performance Enhanced Roid Brigade as an insult. Something only a ********** like Voss would think up. Glad to see he's doing so well...LOL ****.

I was watching in a caravan down the south coast, in the belly of the NRL beast, with the game in the balance and only minutes to go.
Lonie kicked a goal from deep outside 50 on the far side to put the Pies in front or seal it can't remember.

Needless to say we saluted.
Always thought having both Lonies and both Wakelins in the side would have been awesome.

I think you're confusing me with another poster....Lonies kicking was his forte and I am fully aware of his silky skills.

He was referring to you not buying into his softness and implying his kicking was all he had.

Gotta say I agree as well, I was never a Lonie fan. He made Didak look like Michael Voss.

Tomorrow I am going to watch the Afternoon TAC PF at Princess Park.

Get my Footy Fix;)

Good stuff. Let us know how the small forwards, creative mids, rucks and key forwards go.

Didn't want to create a new thread but I decided to put it in here.

This is a Shane Crawford article. You have to question how many Pies games he has seen this year when you read this:

BEN REID - Age: 21, Games: 26, 21 games in 2010 AN early draft pick as a forward, Malthouse has turned him into a key defender.
Reid has done some strong jobs in the back half this season. He reads the play well and has improved out of sight.
Not a great kick, but he is no doubt aware of that, and looks to give it off to the easiest option. An important player.

^^ Shane is a good bloke. Has a good sense of humour. But before talking about Collingwood players I do highly recommend he watch some film. Reid while he had 1-2 ordinary kicks against the WBD, he is an outstanding kick and would be probably amongst the top 5 kicks at the club. Really surprising comment.

Then he goes on to talk about Toovey and makes mention again of Reid's kicking which "can be a bit wayward" and then goes on to say that both follow the "pass it on rule". Reid is a creator with his long range pin point kicking.

On Brown my view is a little different and he really only looked good because more often than not Presti came back as 3rd man up. Really hope Presti comes back next week because if Maxy does not get played loose I think Brown could get exposed which does worry me to be honest.

Otherwise it was a fine article and I understand and appreciate what the great man was saying. But please Shane. Do your research next time. :thumbsu:

Crawf is usually spot on about footy stuff but has gotten that wrong. Maybe should have worded it better like Reid is an excellent kick but has the propensity to turn it over by foot on occasion.

Yeah I see his point that you are only as good as your worst player and he was not wrong. And he is right. Generally like his work. I suggest one of the few Pies games he has seen was the final v WBD.

Radio Call for Friday Night

Anyone going to Record them because it would be great to hear them IF we win
