Who will be the dud recruit of the season?
For my money its Fraser Gehrig. I agree that the saints had to get the best recruit on the market I just think that with that sort of money on offer maybe they could have done better. Especially when all the players coming out of contract are fair game.

Hey, give them a chance to show what they can do b/4 you criticise, maybe about 2 weeks.
Then again, Gehrig is overrated. Collingwood are lucky to miss out on him they managed to pick up Didak instead.

Yeah, I agree crood. If the pies really were offering pick three for Gehrig, then I think time will show that we will be in a much, MUCH better position having picked up Didak. St Kilda will regret not taking him! We already have one semi-inconsitant CHF in Anthony Rocca and I would pick Rocca over Gehrig any day.

Ricky Olarenshaw is a DUD. At his very, very best, the waking injury could amass an average of 10 - 15 possessions per game. North can't even pay the rent for their ground and their desperation for "name/made" players is evident, as they must gamble to obtain success. If they don't succeed it means certain death/relocation. They will not succeed with the likes of Ricky, Calthorpe etc. (MAJOR duds) and the fact that they were looking at Ryan O'Connor is an indication that the club has well and truly had its day...forever.

We can't believe that North were seriously looking at O'Conner either, but in the case of Ricky and Calthorpe, North had to take them. There was some rule where if draft picks are traded by one club (A) to another (B), and then on-traded to a third club (C), then club C was compelled to take a player from club A. Or something like that....it was explained when all the trading was done at the end of last season, so if you're after a few facts, then do a search of the archives and it'll all be explained.

Olarenshaw is a cheap gamble which won't mean too much if it doesn't come off as there are a number of NM hopefuls who play in a similar role. I would have called him a crock rather than a dud. Calthorpe was an act of misplaced charity - definitely a dud. The Woods have picked up a superb player in Wakelin though...(he's not in the same class as Brad Smith or Steve McKee though).

All well and good Shinboners, but he (Calthorpe) is still on your list. Surely you can't be forced to take a player under a two year contract! If you have any sense he should have an unfortunate incident in the showers so that you can push some rookies into the fold! Carlton have many wacky adventures in the showers!

We would much rather have Wakelin on our list than Sav, Ricky or Calthorpe. And I don't think he will be a dud for us either.

As it turns out, we were forced to take the two year contract. For some reason, one year was a carry over from his Brisbane contract and the second was the North one. Strange, but true. Still, I reckon that clubs can carry one or two risks on their list, as with 38 players, you can usually just leave them in the reserves. But we've got 2 risky players (Ricky and Rocca) and one dud (Calthorpe). We'd like to get rid of Calthorpe so we can get a rookie...say Hilton...into the senior list.

But if you can arrange some sort of accident in the shower for him, a slab will be on the way to you. Make that two slabs. Aw, I reckon every North fan here will send you a slab....how about that?

I think you will be proven wrong with your predicting Eastaugh will be a dud. Also, if Ricky can stay injury free, you might be wrong on both selections.
Cheers

Grendel - your prolly right dont know if any will stick around too long. If any i hope Merenda can find some form and stay injury free. He was a pretty good forward in his day, but has his day come and gone?

If I'm a goose you can pluck my down and shove it right up your doona. An opinion is like an arsehole, everybody has one. By not letting me express my views, you are being a complete opinion!

I never said Didak was or will be the greatest footballer of all time. Given time I still wouldn't predict that he will be the best at our club. Tarrant and Fraser will take those honours. What I am saying is that he will be a gun.

Gehrig can do some wonderful things, he can be tough and provide a good option up forward. But he is a 25 year old injury prone player, who should be at the peak of his career. He is spasmotic and is not worth the bucks he was asking. He isn't and never will be a true gun!

scotthodgesmansmo: who would you chose right now between Didak and Gehrig?

As for North recruiting recycled players, I'm not saying that's bad. We picked up Wakelin. But you've gotta say that you have some absolute DUDS! No team can afford to carry these losers, yet they are still in circulation!

Of course we have Steve McKee...nuff said!

Please FIGJAM - reveal your magic powers into the future with your (uneducated) guess that Didak will be the next best thing since sliced bread. I doubt whether even Fraser will even get to the stage of Steven King (easily the best young ruckman in the league, no question) or Brad Ottens. Collingwood need to lessen their éxpectations, otherwise there will be a lot of dissapointed and upset magpie fans next year. On second thoughts, is that such a bad thing ?

It's all so clear too me now. Collingwood has no reason for hope. We must disband now. Who would like Fraser, Shaw, Adkins, Nick Davis, Tarrant, Leon Davis, Didak, Presti, Lockyer, Cloke, Lonie, Richards, O'Bree, Anthony Rocca, Roach, Stone or Ben Johnson. All 23 years of age or less.

Holy Moley! Every club in the competition have their hands up! I think we might just stay together and dominate for the next 10 years thank you.

I have a solid foundation to be optimistic for the future.

Oh, and Turdlough, who ever said that Fraser was going to play his whole career in the ruck?

Yeah but for the next 2 years you will stuggle and i would hardly say you will Dominate for 10 years.I see allot of mid field players in that list/cruming type forwards. And im sure after you get some more concession draft picks over the next 2 years, that list of top young players will grow.

But dont forget that there are plenty of other young teams out there that can match that and beat it.
