One of the dullest Grand Finals in recent history IMO, they said the 1997 was dull, but this one takes the cake as far as I am concerned.

Perhaps it was the fact I nodded off in the 3rd quarter and woke up at the 10 min mark of the last that is swaying my opinion.

I loved it, it was gutsy footy.

Bux will get the Normie.

Agreed, no doubt about the guts and determination in it, but certainly not exciting.. more than likely the weather brought down the standard of play as well.

Rather this than it being over by half time like most other GF's.

More of it I say!

Good point..

I wonder why the 97 was rated by many as being dull, that was far from over at even 3/4 time.

I thought it was a great Grand Final what it lack in flair and finesse it definitely made up for in a guts and determination.

Both teams did their supporters proud with their courage through the match.

Absolutely wonderful grandfinal. To me, this is what Footy is all about. This is why it rocks over soccer, etc. Tough, Hard, Desperate, Passionate, wonderful leaders in Voss and Buckley, controversial free kicks, momentum swings, comebacks, 60m goals et al.

Best grand final i've ever SEEN (only started watching in '93, after coming to Oz in '91).

clueless.
A dagger in my heart.

I bet you only read the topic, got all fired up and posted a scathing retort based on emotion.

do yourself a favour and grab a copy of the 89 grand final had everything this one had and sooooooooooooo much more

I actually thought it was a good game; best thing about it was that it was close all through the afternoon - better than recent GF's where the results have been known at half time or 3/4 time

89 grand final was very different - seemed all over at half time, then geelong comes storming home. Derms heroics early on were a highlight though

was more a 'will the clock beat 'em' game than a close all day tussle like we saw today

The first quarter was appalling, the second quarter marginally better, second half decent

If the Lions had kicked 2 or 3 more goal in the second term and the final margin was 20 points plus, would be regarded as a poor game of AFL football

Exciting game - edge of your seat stuff. I thought it was great what Voss did, letting Lynch hold up the cup in probably his last game.

Only one disappointment was the Collingwood supporters. Disgraceful to 'boo' Akermanis, Pike and Michael when they were collecting their Premiership medals. I know it wasn't all of you but for the ones which did you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I didn't think it was dull at all. The pressure and nervous tension all day had me on the edge of my seat.
It wasn't high scoring, it wasn't spectacular, certainly wasn't the greatest standard game ever. But that Collingwood side have G&D and you had to admire their fighting spirit, even though Brisbane proved too good at the end.
1995 when Carlton thrashed Geelong was much more dull than today.

If it had been a H & A game it would be classed as a shocker. Just a slog, with poor skills, due to the weather.

But it was a GF, with both teams able to win right up to the last couple of minutes of the game, that's what made iot exciting - especially for the Lions & Magpie fans!

I liked it. It's been a while since a grand final was as close as that, and it was like it all day. I couldn't move away from the tv, even though I really didn't care about the outcome because I was thoroughly enjoying it. Might have been a little scrappy, but it was hard, and it was never obvious as to who was going to win.
