However the old 'thearte-goer' crowd seemed worse than ever this year (imo) to try and convey any sense of the occasion. The crowd was 'flat' or at least came across the tv that way (again imo).

Great contest, even game, poor crowd particpation.
I am surpised to hear that. The constant noise was loud from where I sat. Maybe Ch.10 effect mics were turned down to allow the commentry to be heard. I though the crowd participation was huge. There was a larger than normal proportion of fans from the actual competing clubs it seemed to me.

Cant believe a few of these comments.
Would you have rathered a highly skilled blow out, or a tight, tough close game decided in the dying minutes.

This is what is killing football. Its not a TV sport! Stop trying to make it one!

Not a good GF in terms of showcasing the skills the game requires.

.

Have to agree, Buckleys 60 metre goal from an impossible angle and Vosses mark in the last quarter did nothing to showcase the skills the game requires.....

Give me good hard football anyday

This was the most interesting GFs for ages, in my opinion. The most boring was 2000. Snore. I went down the fish and chip shop at half time for dimsims and calamari - by the time I got back, nothing interesting was still happening so I watched a bit of a doco on Ancient Egypt on another channel (fascinating! no sarcasm either) and turned back to watch the last five minutes of the last quarter, the presentation etc.

1999 was exciting until it became obvious we were going to be spanked. About the time Murphy got injured.

Pretty scrappy affair. Don't think I've ever seen such intensity, though. Reckon the occasion and the closeness of the scores might see this game recognised as a classic match for years to come...but it wasn't the greatest exhibition of Australian Football by a long chalk, IMO.
