Yep.

Lost by 7 and had so much more of it. Collingwood snuck in a flag by winning the next two games by a total of 5 points. Genuinely feel that was our year. We could have definitely gotten it done. Collingwood were just not that much better. In fact probably par.

The Brayshaw incident rattled the whole group. We should have stepped up after that. Yes, abhorrent lack of fight. I genuinely believe we were right in it that year. The group never recovered.
We were shit in 2023 lol Collingwood never were threatened at all by us on the scoreboard in that game. Any time they wanted they could just kick a goal and we were never kicking over 70 points

Not belting the absolute stuffing out of Maynard and winning that goddam QF in 2023. No flag was flown that night. Lost by 7 points and I don’t think Collingwood were that much better than us that year.
great call. the soft underbelly of the club still lingers. Even petracca smiling and shaking hands with Maynard before the game in their next outing rubbed me the wrong way.

I agree we weren't that good in 2023, but he is right about the lack of fight. Probably one of the more pathetic moments we've had as a club.

Probably because most people at the time thought it was an accident and what can you even do any more? Wrestle a little abit? I know people don't agree with me but it wasn't some dog shit Maynard went up for a smother and then it all happened quick. Then I'm guessing they were more worried about Gus than getting in some little wrestle

Looking back, a lot of our downfall can be tracked back to that night.

What you said is def true. Appalling lack of fight.

Then losing in true Goody style, dominating everywhere but couldn't convert.

Then doing the same the next week v Carlton.

The Schache sub debacle.

Then Gus retiring.

Then spending the Grundy and Gus money on ... Fullarton, Billings and Sharp.
Straight sets in 22 didn't bother me so much, going back to back is hard. Trac was broken in the first final and Geelong were bloody unstoppable that year anyway. But there was a flag for the taking in '23 and we absolutely botched it.

We were never a chance and I made good money begging against us

We scored

76, 72, 61, 66, 63, 45, 79, 105, 97, 130, 103, 56, 87, 77, 53 an 71.

So we had a month of good scoring ( 2 games against North and Richmond as well ) and a shitload of pox games either side of it from about round 11 onwards. We were no threat at all.

Craig Mcrae was basically laughing at us in his post match presser saying he was happy for us to go inside 50 because it was a chance for them to score rather than us

Basically the same dysfunctional mess as we are now except May, Gawn, Lever, Oliver, Fritsch etc were playing better

2023 kind of felt we fell into top 4, if Carlton didn't have such a shit start they make the 4. Must admit 23 we did get some bad luck with injuries just shows you need things going right.
Nah we came home with a wet sail and just bungled our finals. Should have made a prelim. Carlton weren't much chop themselves.

We've been burning out Max Gawn physically & mentally for years now. Dude's a champion, no idea how he keeps fronting up with no support around him.

Getting pretty kool-aidy lately, but he's been the only one who consistently chats to media like a human for ages.

I've never really gotten this. He's been the best ruckman in the comp for a decade. He's now 33. He can't be the king forever.

We did our very best to find a backup ruck. After Jackson it was a waste of time.

Physically we can debate, I don't mind so much, but I think our gameplan's been too reliant in kicking on his head.

Aside from that I meant that every time we balls something up Max gets paraded out.

Would be nice to have a president/CEO/GM of footy who could talk to media now & then.

Oh if we're talking about trotting him out in the media I'm with you 100%

I kind of remember thinking that we were hanging on to top 4 but perhaps that was more mid season. Carlton also came home with a wet sail think they won 9 of their last 10 or something. Anyway I think losing petty and then melksham on the eve of finals hurt. Despite recent for Petty was pretty good forward that year. Anyway we blew it against Collingwood and weren't going to beat Brisbane regardless.

As much as I don't like Goodwin I think he's looked at much more favourably if he doesn't go out in straight sets two years in a row. That Carlton loss was the beginning of the end for him.

I agree we were hanging on. It was very obvious our footy wasn't at the level of the top couple teams
