We only have ourselves (Tassie) to blame for our horrid off field draw.
Due to Tassie reserve seat holders can use their seat just six times next year.
Due to Tassie we get only 9 MCG matches all up.
Due to Tassie we will have to book via Tickemaster for one home game and 2 - 3 designated games.
Without doubt we have the worst value memberships in the AFL. The fact that our club is bleeding us dry is nothing to be proud of.
Watch our membership plummet when we (eventually) slip down the ladder.

We need to dump Tassie ASAP - we would then have 8-9 home MCG games.
We need to dump Tassie whilst we still have some leverage with North & the AFL.
Tassie is what is stopping us being a power club.
We will always sit well behind the 'big 4' in terms of prestige and our draw whilst we play 4 games in Tassie.
Tassie is a false ecomomy - we could easily replace Tassie as major sponsor and make up the difference via bigger crowds. Also our record there is worse than @ the MCG (given we play the bottom teams there and top teams @ MCG).

At the very least we need to hand the sponsorship over to North and play around two games there.

Thoughts?

You understate the value of the Tassie sponsorship by not taking into account the losses that we incur playing poorly attended MCG games against interstate sides and, conversely, the value of having a clean stadium five times a year.

I'd love to have more home games at the MCG, but the simple economics are we need to have something like 50,000 - 60,000 show up to every home game to match the deal - or increase the membership cost to Collingwood levels.

Thoughts ? - My first thought was here we go again.

Calling the usual suspects.

It would be a good thing to debate if we could get some factual we argued debate
Sadly it's such an emotive issue that these posts tend to degenerate in slanging matches. :(

Good luck.

You don't think games against Port, Brisbane and Freo would be played at Etihad?
You might get one extra "home" game with your reserved seat.
Our memberships are cheaper than any other club.
Agree our membership will plummet.

Tassie is what is making us a power club. Without it, our vic crowds will drop and we will not be able to compete financially.

Giving up Tassie is what the AFL wants. Do you trust the AFL to "look after us"?

I touched on the Tassie deal the other day. We are contracted there, for four more years from memory.

What we need to consider is:
- number of member from tassie .... 10,000 out of 60,000
- $$ value of sponsorship, lets say its $3 m, can we get $3 from another corporate for the same value or more than Tassie deal. This should involve a comparison of sponsor ship revenue between HFC and other Melbourne Clubs. From memory we may be number 4 or 5 in sponsorship, so with our fantstic performance and icon players like hodge, buddy and cyril, i'm sure we can find another corporate sponsor to replace Tassie for the same revenue and get us 4 games back at the MCH
- travel costs involved in going to tassie .... for the club and myself, glory be you jetstar I cop a $17 charge for using my credit card to pay
- north melbourne v hawthorn influence in tassie
- most importantly, impact on on Melbourne members, 6 home games is just not feasible, just not good enough for the most passionate of supporters let alone general members who are thinking of the costs of a membership vs feeding their family
- the economy....people cannot afford memberships.

Its too late, but we short changed ourself by blindly following Kennett when hes not even around to take the flak.
Lets hope the team is still flying when we make the transition back to melbourne in 2016

Looking at the Crowds at North gaes they ahve made a suprisingly good start to their stint in tassie. In contrast our crowds there seem to have stagnated, despite us (jeff) spending our money upgrading the stadium

I don't think we should break the contract, but at the end of the deal would like to see Hawthorn play all their home games at the G again. Losing 10,000 tassie members, still gives us a membership figure of over 50,000, which is well above most f the other Victorian clubs. We might even gain more Victorian members, with more home games.

Tassie deserve their own team anyway.

Because we can't play Pies, Blues or Dons in Tassie, it makes it hard hard to them to squeeze in home games v them into our 6/7 home games.
We would have more games v bigger clubs if we did not play so many games in Tassie.
My argument is not emotive - I did not mention the stigma of being a club that sells 37% of out games interstate.
And what is the break even @ MCG - I doubt we would make a loss V Lions or Dogs.

I have been against the arrangement from the beginning for a number of reasons - most of the consequences I raised at the time have eventuated. The fortunate on-field status of the club has hidden other issues of continuing to play 4 home games there a year.

Let the AFL push us out of Tassie - we are strong enough as a club to play 11 home matches in Melbourne. The 4-5 thousand members we had prior to playing home games there will continue to support us regardless.

One thing the club must not do is let the AFL push us out of the MCG - the Friday Night Etihad home game against the Eagles is a DISGRACE.

It can also see this game as the catalyst for more scheduled home games there in future years as the AFL declare the match "a success".

Any danger of a home game against the blues/bummers once in a while?
And i will not be rocking up to etihad either, the place has no atmosphere and its laughable to have a roof on a stadium. Foxtel unfortunately provides better value than a membership these days.

maybe the eagles game is a 'toe in the water' at etihad for us

maybe Hawthorn asked for it ?

Eventually, we will need to form a relationship with Etihad, whether we like it or not
Stuart Fox's response to the fixture, as released on the AFL website, says that Hawthorn requested that it play its Melbourne home games at the MCG.

Lethlean has said that Hawthorn is fixtured to play the Eagles at Etihad because the AFL is contractually obliged to play 48 games a season at Etihad, there was no final played at Etihad last year, and other clubs that normally play home games at Etihad (North Melbourne and St Kilda) are playing home games away from Etihad in 2013 (Hobart and New Zealand, respectively).

Ah, but your assuming the 10k tassies members are stocking up the same amount as a Vic member.

Kennett has gone on record previously saying we would be better off financially moving back to Victoria and yet, we get 4 home games in Tassie and 6 home games at the Mcg.

Whats the point of a Vic member getting a 17 game membership? I've already paid for mine so they will be getting an email of me downgrading to an 11 game membership and I'll pocket the difference thanks.

About the same as a QLD member buying a membership at all. Seems all of our games up here against Brisbane after 2008 have been handed over to Tassie and I for one am bloody sick to death of it.

Remember almost 10,000 members are Tasmanian, that will put us back with the rest of the field. As long as we are more viable than other clubs due to our arrangement with Tassie will keep me happy,i don't want the Hawks to go back to being mediocre like Richmond,St Kilda,Carlton and Co.I never want the Hawks to almost become the Dawks again. As long as our great team is always Hawthorn i don't mind missing out on a game here and there.Think of the bigger picture guy's and what is best for the Hawthorn FC and not for the individual.Hawthorn has always been bigger than the individual.

The cyclic nature of football means we'll be back in the pack and being mediocre regardless of the Tasmania deal or not.

Going by your reasoning the club should do whatever it takes to make the most money it can. A football club doesn't exist to make money.
