Just checked out the release dates for this movie. 2nd December for Australian cinemas versus 22nd October in the US including streaming services. WTF! seriously?, just asking for it to be pirated in Australia.
Same as the new James Bond movie.

There's very little point in opening a movie in Australia in October, given that half the country's population will still be in lockdown, with the cinemas all still closed. By delaying until December, they're hoping that Sydney/Melbourne/Canberra will all have re-opened, allowing people to go & see the movie.

Yes, it sucks that we get the October 2021 release movies later. You can thank Gladys & Scomo for the delays.

I'm here to talk about Dune...
No, you posted bitching about the release date - which is a direct result of decisions taken (or not taken) by Scomo & Gladys. The two are inextricably linked.

If you want to talk about the movie - fine. If you want to talk about the release date, then you need to understand where the blame lies, and it's not with the movie producers/distributors/cinema chains in Australia.

I disagree, the release date is as a result of totalitarian movement bans. But as I said, i'm here to talk about the movie.

I'm sure there is a lovely bunch of dole-bludging, inner city neckbeard types you can converse about such topics with on BigSocialism or some other forum.

100% one to watch at the movies. The music sounds so good and it looks great. Think I'll have a re-read before going.
I will be sorely tempted to find a copy and watch it at home, then see it again at IMAX after 2nd December. But it will just take away the awesomeness of that first impression big screen and sound experience. It's disappointing to have to wait but it will be worth it.

Yeah, that's my plan. Once it goes HBO max in the US it won't be long before a good copy is available on the high seas.

Then IMAX in December.

I just watched this and I really liked it. They changed a few things from the book, but it seemed to capture the spirit of it.

My only bugbears for the film was firstly the desaturation. I really don't know why Hollywood likes to desaturate films these days. Baron Harkonnen was a bit too subdued for me too. He's a real crazy mofo in the book. They cut down Shadap Mapes role a lot and Yueh was very underdeveloped considering his betrayal was considered impossible due to Imperial conditioning. They left all that out so Leto's betrayal and death didn't have the impact it does in the book. I also felt the fall of Leto and the Harkonnen invasion all happened too quickly. They cut a fair chunk out of the book there. Also Liet Kynes the ecologist was played by a black woman, he was a man in the book and the father of Chani.

Just watched it and yes this must be seen in the theater. The visuals and soundtrack is amazing.

In regards to the story accuracy, I don't recall much of the book but in comparison to the 84 movie & the miniseries, the dialogue between characters is a lot less. Some of the key characters are barely noticeable or have very little part in this movie in comparison to the previous releases. I am not sure if that will upset the Dune purists.

For me a lot of the characters seem to take themselves a bit too seriously and it needed small pockets of light humour to break up some of the brooding tones. Jason Momoa's character Duncan Idaho provided some respite but his screen time was limited to a few scenes of humour.

Not sure if I liked the Baron's character, said very little and when he did it was direct without any hint of gloating. It was probably the comic relief I was hoping for in lue of the other movies & mini series to break up the monotones of the characters.

Yeah you were talking about the poor release date. Not the movie.

They left out the space guild but other than that the tone of the book was there

Must see in the theatre
