Villeneuve ya mad bastard.

Amazing to think that this is the same director that blew me away just over a decade ago with the family drama Incendies.

A hypnotic experience, and glad I watched it in the cinemas first. Def about to kill my soundbar (and the street) on repeat viewings. Now...to finish the book or not.

Could not have given this project into safer hands. Villeneuve always wanted to make this film and respects the story. Sure its not perfect from exposition point of view but its inspiring people to read the books or watch the Lynch movie or the Sci-Fi miniseries to provide that detail.

I really hopes he goes through with Dune Messiah to finish Paul's storyline.

I don't know why Zimmer gets criticised, he continually brings an epic score. Maybe he has to collaborate with other artists so that there is more variety, such as in the BR2049 soundtrack or in NTTD. Here he collaborates with Benjamin Walfisch, Vangelis and I think Junkie XL?

Watched it yesterday, enjoyed it, but as a fan of the book there were a few changes in the adaptation by Villeneuve that I wish hadn't been made. I also was not a fan of Rebecca Ferguson as the Lady Jessica. I can understand why it was omitted from the movie, but the dinner on Arrakis that preceded the attack on House Atreides is (for me) a very enjoyable part of the book and it isn't in the movie. I also was not a fan of Liet-Kynes as played in the movie.

I'm glad to read that those not familiar with the book were able to follow the plot of the movie, because I felt that there was an under-current of assumed knowledge of the book in the movie.

Not sure about the cinema experience as the picture theatre I went to last night was pretty average.

The projection picture quality was poor lacking sharpness of picture and struggled with dynamic range in the low light scenes. Sound on the other hand was epic. How it could have been mixed a bit better when dialogue was spoken in quieter scenes.

I still highly recommend seeing this movie in a cinema but choose your cinema wisely as the visual experience may vary significantly.

In regards to the story line, I'm very pleased with direction Villeneuve took. It was always going to be fine balance between keeping the fans happy versus keeping the newbies interested.

New fans who aren't familiar with the lore will probably now spend the time to read the books and watch the other adaptations to get a fuller picture of Herbert's universe.

It would be awesome if Villeneuve does part 3 also to encapsulate the Dune Messiah book and the end of Paul's story line.

My understanding is that there is a television series in development but it seems to be a prequel to Dune, rather than a sequel to the book.

The connection escaped me, but Dean Stockwell, the actor who played Dr Wellington Yueh ("a million deaths are not enough for Yueh!") in David Lynch's Dune died in November.

Give me one good reason why I should give up 3 hours of my time this weekend to watch this?

(or two)
I watched it last night, and hated it. (Whats the last movie you watched thread, last post).

Curiosity?

Look at it this way, you would have sat through bad 3 hour movies in the past so what are you losing.

By the way, this ain't a bad movie, it will depend if your into this type of thinking person's SCI-FI.
