Apart from the fact Hinkley plays as a rover and wins his ball on the ground whereas Dunn plays as a leading, almost key forward for Easts?
So in that case why play Hinkley as a small forward. Pretty sure we recruited him to give us some midfield pace.

Dunn deservses another few games on todays effort. His physical pressure is very good and he'll be better for the run.

It's an easier way to get games into him. Plus, if our midfield is getting smashed, we have the option to move him. Pretty sure that's the role he played earlier in the year anyway. Gets him used to the speed of the game and level required. There is more upside to Hinkley than there is with Dunn, so deserves more chances. We don't get that with Hinkley.

If his body was more developed, I have no doubt Hinkley would have played most games this year, given his form for swans.

FWIW I think Murphy played just as well as Dunn. Dunn just wasn't sighted when they tightened up on him. Let's not get carried away. Dunn was ok, but if we had a fit squad, there isn't a whole lot of value having him in that role.

Deserves some more games, but is no saviour, nor anything different to what we have there.

Murphy was ordinary...got his hands on some gettable balls without marking, missed gettable shots, is not quick enough to chase/tackle effectively, can only play as a forward.

Trade Bait.
Bring Kepler back in...never thought I'd say that

Murphy's forward pressure was better than Kepler. This game isn't about who gets the most possessions otherwise Sydney would be last.

At one stage today Murphy and Dunn were applying forward pressure. Dunn applied three tackles and Murphy was a spectator.

Murphy needs to toughen the ____ up. At least Dunn has the fire to get into the action.

Dunn was good. Deserves another run or two. Slotted in the team well, despite having been out for a good while.

Wasn't much impressed with Murphy at all today. Still seems lost. Almost ready to give up on him, but as the season's shot, I won't mind leaving him in the team.

Warnock was pretty damn handy IMO.

Very happy with today's game.

Hinkley might get another game or 2 this season but he's not physically ready so I don't see that much benefit for him in playing an unfamiliar role up forward. Better for Dunn to have his chance playing that role and Hinkley playing good WAFL footy as an onballer.

Played well for his first match in a very long time. His decision making and kicking into the forward 50 was very good, as was his pressure. Definitely deserves a couple more weeks.

Watching the replay again, I may have been a bit harsh on Dunn this game.

Was certainly good early. I've noticed his kicking goes missing at times in the WAFL, but a couple of those long drives were great. Needs more confidence in it I reckon, because in the second half he looked to be trying to give off by hand, when he really should have been using that 60m kick.

If Headland doesn't recover, he may snag that role. If he gets the confidence in his boot and can get enough of the ball, he may work out. Still needs to be able to win it himself however.

But I may definitely live to eat my hat on this one... :):thumbsu:

Was happy with Dunn, did some good things. If his body can hold up and here's hoping he could be a solli type for us.

Wouldn't think there would be any rick in giving him games now until the end of the year as we are out of the finals and it will give us a final verdict on a former number ten pick.

murphs on the other hand has had a heap of chances, also wouldn't mind him getting a couple in a row but to be honest with you, even if he did play well would hope we traded him for a decent pick if possible.

Should have stayed with my original criticism.

Absolutely pathetic. I don't think my hat is in any danger of being eaten. What a dead set crab. My criticism still stands. You could put a witches hat next to him and he'd have a massive sad, get scared, and not look like winning the ball.

I think he needs to practice in the back yard and see if he can beat a garden gnome to the footy. When he's done that, he can compete against my pet ferrets... Actually no... When he can beat a garden gnome to the footy, he can graduate and try it against another docker. :thumbsu:

Hmmm... gives me an idea... perhaps I should take the ferrets down to training... It's exactly what they need. Plenty of energy, hunger for the ball, and a willingness to not give the ball up at any costs. Little _____...

Your a deadset w***er. Its hard to get a kick when the coach site you on the ____ing bench all night.

So it wasn't him I saw taking a massive fly when he should have been down?

Didn't work hard enough when he was on the ground, and was obviously the reason he was benched. Simple.

The one reason he was terrible was because he took a fly???

Nope.

When we needed an half forward to work hard, he was never even in shot. I'd say that's the likely reason he was benched for so long.

As I've said since coming on these boards, his work rate is ordinary, and he cracks sads and doesn't even get near the ball if you put a half decent opponent on him at WAFL level even...

The Dome is a very tough ground for small forwards when the opposition puts on a heavy flood.

The game time was surprising. I was wondering if the guy was injured or something, only to see him return to the field late in the match.

If they don't have a role for someone, then why pick them in the first place? He would have been on such a high after the selection and win last week. That's one way to destroy someones confidence!

Another cop out.

He doesn't play as a small forward. If you'd seen anything of him, you'd know that.

There were so many times we had the ball on half back, with no-one leading up to the wing. That then becomes the 3rd-6th forwards job to do that, if the main targets are not an option. HIS JOB!!!

I'd say his inability to do that was what got the ire of the coach.

You can get away with making 20-30m leads in the WAFL. You can't at AFL. You need to work a hell of a lot harder than that. But he doesn't work hard at WAFL level, so there is no reason to expect him not to do the same at AFL level.

I don't know, how about the fact he's doing what he's dreamed of doing for years, finally has a chance on the big stage in front of his home crowd and friends rather than some obscure WAFL fixture? That he's playing for his future in the AFL? THe chance to play in the bigtime for big money? I would think he'd have a crack.

You can dream about a lot of things.

People can dream about being awesome musos and playing in front of big crowds, but it doesn't make them all of a sudden up to it. (Not having a go at you, just for pointedness. ;))

If he truly was AFL level, he'd have the work ethic at all levels. Not just when he's given his "chance". Because we all know it just doesn't work like that.

I take your point, just saying that perhaps, given his setbacks with injury over the years it may have been hard for him, 3000k's from home on another freezing winter day with a few hundred people watching to have been enthused about playing in the 2's and that when the light at the end of the tunnel has finally arrived and he's playing on the big stage on Friday night footy he might feel a bit more excited about playing and put it in a bit.
