Can't say the idea hadn't occurred to me. Contain the threat. The situation's a lot more perilous than many realise, but I digress.

"Are you gonna dob on me?"... Martin's still a kid. One that needs a lot of guidance.
Are you saying the wall is designed to keep trump inside? If we can lock Tones behind it, I could get on board

Not the place for it. Maybe Martin could be deployed to Syria as punishment? Put explosives inside footballs and have him deliver 60m scuds behind enemy lines...

It's a bit unfair that a matter which is the subject of an investigation has been tried in the media. Collingwood managed to keep a far, far more serious investigation involving Travis Cloke out of the papers. (Edit: May have been Jason. While ago now...)
Do tell! We can add it to the list: 'incidents much worse than Dusty's for which he will stand proxy for punishment '.

The zeitgeist has changed and now someone must pay.

The unluckiest in this is Clem Smith though, involved in an actual physical altercation, will have to get double whatever dusty gets, the zeitgeist demands it! (Or does it change by the day?)

I can't see how a year ban helps anyone, call me biased but I think there are many other ways to help the victim to deal with the trauma and to punish Dustin Martin while educating him at the same time.

I'll bet if you threatened a woman with violence it wouldn't be played out in the media. I'd also bet that if it wasn't Dustin Martin, the woman would have complained to the staff rather than confronting him herself.

Still I respect your opinion because it was unacceptable behaviour, I just feel a year match ban is a lose/lose/lose result.
Absolutely agree. If the AFL really wants to kill a chicken to scare the monkeys, not sure Martin is the right chicken.

A year off and Martin may be lost to the game, but more seriously Martin may get lost without the game.

Not going there, I don't want to be paying for anyone's retirement. AFAIK the player wasn't the suspected perp. It was mentioned to emphasise the warped perspective created by modern media.

So, the game owes Martin what exactly?

Richmond supporters can't even keep their own bullshit straight.

We have to "wait for all the facts to come in before commenting"......unless we're smearing the woman and defending Dusty, then we can speculate and make shit up to our hearts' content?

Dusty is an innocent little flower who has never done anything wrong and is unfairly picked on.....but if we give him a harsh punishment, he'll be "lost" forever?

Located this photo of the witnesses at the restaurant on the night who claim the alleged victims story is false.

aaahhh the 26th August 2006, beating the Bombers was nothing much to cheer about that year...or did you capture the very moment your mob drew with the Cats, leaving us 2 points clear in 9th place with 1 round to go?

We knew then it was destiny.

Reached the media before it was a police matter. Welcome to new technologies

He's apologised for something. So let's assume the truth lies close to the reported incident. The AFL have seen fit to refer it to the wollopers so one can assume that they think something needs to be dealt with after doing their investigations.
At worst its threat to kill - at best drunk and disorderly

That said - forgive me any criminal lawyers if this is dumb - is it possible to argue what has been alleged to have happened is a conditional threat?

This: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuberville_v_Savage
Stephen J Peak, well known lawyer and Buffoon on SEN last night said going from newspaper reports, that what was allegedly said met a few of the criteria for a criminal prosecution. Then he went on to give some figures about the success rate of prosecutions for the offence.

So Martin is being investigated by police on AFL request. If the victim isn't willing to make a statement I assume police will struggle to lay charges.
I didn't think the police needed a statement from the victim to lay charges, CCTV footage or witness report would be enough if they wanted to do it.

You're probably the only person who can't figure it out lol. Back to school champo.
Sad part is, in all likelihood you actually think I didn't figure it out. I'd suggest that you should head back to school except for the probability (a) that you're currently enrolled in grade 3, or (b) another round of education would be of no benefit to you whatsoever.

The truth, not this bullshit that has been exaggerated to create a story.
I'm all for the truth, and we can hope that it sets Dusty free, but we shouldn't get away from the fact that it was Martin who created the story in the first place. It's his actions which have created the drama, and now we're all just trying to figure out the details.

The way it was handled was out of control, a frenzy. If Martin should be suspended for a year, what penalty should the Hawthorn players accused of rape get?
I'd suspect they would get an even longer ban if convicted. But he most likely won't get a year. It might be a moot point anyway. His bigger concern is what possibly could come out of a criminal prosecution.
