I'm not saying it's a perfect system of accountability, but the violence against women issue has been very public the last year or two.

But either way you want to measure the shift, it doesn't diminish what allegedly happened on Saturday. If people can't read the tea leaves and adjust their thinking and actions in accordance with public expectations, then they can't complain if their actions all of a sudden become big news.
Punish him consistent with the last decade of punishments. There has been no paradigm shift in attitude, violence against women has been a very public issue for decades, it's just an old problem that dogs us relentlessly and dies very hard.

Bob Hawke, 4th April, 1989 (launch of Domestic Violence Awareness Month):
'This is an important day for Australia. It is a day that marks an innovative and vital campaign of public education- education to break the silence surrounding the scourge of domestic violence...'

I'm not sure the criminal code penalty for this offence has changed in the last decade. I'm sure he will get a fair hearing if it comes to that .

As for any AFL penalty, why pick the last 10 years? Why not impose any penalty according to what he would have gotten 30, 50, 100 years ago?

Sad part is, in all likelihood you actually think I didn't figure it out. I'd suggest that you should head back to school except for the probability (a) that you're currently enrolled in grade 3, or (b) another round of education would be of no benefit to you whatsoever.
Absolutely tip top. :)

Good question, I'm happy to have a step change in AFL punishment scales, but you'd need to flag it first. Are we randomly starting with Dusty? Or shall we debut the draconianism with Clem? Too arbitrary, unfair.

(And then we better get ready for about half a team's worth of players being suspended at any time!)

I think community expectations are a fluid thing. And penalties will be imposed accordingly.

So the best thing to do is not be a twat at all times and that should negate the possibility of copping a penalty at the wrong part of the community expectation cycle.

The story is not truthfull, gravy added, don't believe everything the media tells you. Sheeple...
Sheeple....really? got to love how those supporters who's club is subject to scandal claim 'shouldn't believe everthing in the media'. Yet when the boot is on the other foot, and scandal involves an opposition club, the media are gospel.

Stephen J Peak, well known lawyer and Buffoon on SEN last night said going from newspaper reports, that what was allegedly said met a few of the criteria for a criminal prosecution. Then he went on to give some figures about the success rate of prosecutions for the offence.
Is it alleged that the threat was contingent on "if she went to the club"

The thing is, he's not a kid. He's a grown man who needs to take responsibility for his own actions. How do you teach someone to take responsibility for their own actions? Some people can't be 'guided', some people need to be made to take responsibility.
Thank you! I am so sick of hearing people refer to him and other young adults as a kid as if it absolves them of any responsibility for their actions. Once a kid reaches the age of about 7 or 8 surely he's gone past the stage of having a tantrum?

He's young but not a kid and is definitely old enough to be able to control himself & his temper when someone says something he doesn't like.

Less tolerated by who? One of the first things I learned was that you don't hit women/girls... 40 years ago.
Society in general. Once it was a hidden or not spoken of shame. Now it's not, it's very public. There was a time when men would hear stories of domestic violence and say nothing. I think that's becoming less and less now. If you knew someone in your circle of friends or work came to work talking about giving his other half a backhander, I expect you would now have a word to him if not more.
