So what happened in your mind exactly?
Why should I speculate? I can imagine two ways that it might have played out (happy drunk / angry drunk) and they are at opposite ends of the spectrum with extremely different likely consequences. What's the point, besides the satisfaction derived from seeing another Footy club suffer?

You'd think an Essendon supporter would know better.

Public Relations 101
As someone who worked for years in issues management type PR I can tell you that PR 101 for crisis management is come completely clean ASAP and take your whack, as soon as that's done you can start to rebuild your public image rather than having an issue drag on like a running sore.

Sounds like Richmond and the AFL both tried to get the matter swept under the carpet which has created another issue of very poor public perception - definitely not the goal of any decent PR professional.

So in your mind it's all made up and fictional. The woman's just making it up for attention.

Straya.
I think Martin is guilty of being a drunk, overally aggressive for sure, though from what I have read I do believe the death threats are a complete fabrication. Stab to death with chop sticks, it's ridiculous.. Lol

Sorry, the issue is that a footy club may suffer? No. You're completely wrong. The issue is that some flog has (allegedly) felt entitled to harass, intimidate and threaten a woman who did nothing wrong. That's the issue here. The football club is a long way down the priority list. It's fans are utterly irrelevant. This does not involve them in any way.

And resorting to snipes of club of support. The sure fire sign you're out of ideas.

I do hope you will be banging on the door at Hawthorn as well, there has been a lot of silence about the Hawthorn players involved in the sexual assault incident after the Grand Final, the club seems to be hiding under the cover of an investigation being carried out, isn't that much the same now in Dustin's case?

I do agree though that the whole AFL set up needs to be looked at from the top down.
What would you like Hawthorn to say/do? Yes they did it, prejudicing the case? No they didn't do it, then you'd claim cover up.
The no comment whilst under Police investigation is completely appropriate at this time.

There is no similarity to Richmond's handling of the case unless you can point me to quotes of the two players apologising (an admission of guilt), or where the AFL contacted the girl and asked her not to complain, then eventually handed it over to Box Hill Police because the girl refused to be silenced.

As for my conduct, there is no bias or blinkers here. Do some searching if you like, but I was more than happy for Hodge to be stripped of the captaincy and suspended for a DUI. I have a zero tolerance to Richard Craniums, mutts that abuse women (in any way) and people that believe their position or status entitles them to a different form of justice to Joe Public. If the Hawks boys are charged and found guilty, bye bye.

Sharpen up mate. The issue is that posters in this thread are revelling in the opportunity to have a crack at Richmond and its supporters (just as they have done with Essendon over PEDs, North over Majak, Pies over Shaw/Didak/Swan, etc.) when there are conflicting reports over what has occurred and the matter has been referred to police. Dusty is as entitled to the presumption of innocence as any other member of our society, AFL player or not.

This is idle, self-serving speculation.

IF this all ends up being true, and he is found guilty from the Police investigation, then I'd not be unhappy if his contract was terminated. I would like to wait until that time, before I change my view. Innocent until proven guilty, yes?

I'd say there's some similarities. Wouldn't you?

I think if Richmond and the AFL and the cops had all acted properly and swiftly they would be lauded for their honesty and integrity.

If it had been a female cop assaulted by a normal member of the public, the guy would have been in a cell faster than you could blink.

See Freo choad who whacked the off duty female cop at the game vs West Coast.

Nobody's said he's not entitled to the presumption of innocence. There probably are some people using it as a chance to have a crack at Richmond. But the bulk are just discussing and are appalled by the alleged incident. Cue Richmond fans (for some reason) flooding in to vigorously defend Martin, attack and blame the victim and try to play the whole thing down. Y'all are not defence lawyers. It has nothing to do with any of you.

Richmond (the club) are now rightly copping abuse for (seemingly) trying to hush up the whole incident. That's not "reveling in the opportunity". That's rightly attacking something that's appears pretty disgraceful.

This is true.
If the witnesses have backed up the victims version of events, people at Richmond and the AFL should be under investigation. However if the witness accounts are different, it makes sense to hand the investigation over to an independent party to determine what had happen.

Think you will find there may have been a couple of witnesses that have come forward that the AFL have spoken to, that infer the act did take place, but it wasn't nearly as heightened as the victim described.

This may have cast doubt into what actually happened from the AFL perspective.

Referring to the police in this matter will allow for the facts to be gathered in a proper manner, from the victim and witnesses and eliminates any perceived AFL bias.

If the victims account is as described, the witnesses will validate this and Dustin should be dealt with severely - football should be the least of his concerns.
dustin is in deep shit. He will receive a very serious assault charge, and will will probably be found guilty.

It will boil down to whether a reasonable person would beleive that Martin actually intended to harm her, not the victim herself. Considering how aggresive and drunk he was Many wittnesses would have beleived he intended to do it.

about 9.42pm on Saturday.

Sounds like someone has footage?
Not sure, but that would help work out what happened exactly. The best thing that could happen are that the facts come out. Witnesses validating the victims version of events would be just as effective.
