So just because someone is shaken means they cease to be functional? Why should any victim (alleged or otherwise) act according to a particular script?

There have been cases where women have been raped at parties, but where they've then re-joined in the social gathering. I'm in no way whatsoever comparing Martin's alleged outburst with rape, but I'm trying to make a point that the behaviour of victims of crime doesn't have to fit in with anyone else's idea of how they should act after a traumatic event. Such is the wonderful diversity of humanity.
You are correct in what you're saying. But this is just another aspect of the story that doesn't quite sit right with me. I would have the same feeling no matter if it was a Collingwood player or any other AFL player in question. If this was the only odd occurrence concerning the issue then I wouldn't pay too much attention to it, but it's not. Whilst Martin is obviously not completely innocent of any wrongdoing, when taking all aspects into account there are just a few too many things that stink about the story.

For these reasons I welcome the police investigation and hope every single bit of truth comes to light.

[QUOTsaid, post: 42294687, member: 160288"]I read a news report last night which said that Swan can be seen on CCTV punching the guy as he tried to pick himself up. It does seem that others were just as (or perhaps more) responsible for the victim's injuries, but it also seemed clear enough that he contributed to the violence.[/QUOTE]
As I said dont believe what you read the video proved to balmy that he had little involvement.

Totally agree.

But he was intoxicated and obviously intimidated the woman as the video has shown... and was asked to leave the premises...

On just those facts alone i'm surprised there has been no sanction handed to Dustin. Something that tells players, sponsors, supported charitys and fans of the Richmond Football club that these facts about Dustin are unacceptable to the Club.

I.e. Dustin will not play in the nab cup because he was intoxicated, had a dispute with a lady stranger, was asked to leave a licenced Premise and can't remember any of it. For that he will be club imposed suspended from all nab cup games pending the investigation from Police into the incident and all the facts come out at which time we will re-assess the sanctions and consider if they are appropriate or if further penalties are warranted.

Instead... no comment... come back and train and represent our club and what it stands for...

Richmond has sent a bad message to all with no action to this point imo.
So you want to blow your load before the facts are clear?

Thanks for acknowledging my point.

Cool catch cry you've got there...

"Blow your load"... it's been used a bit in this thread by tigs supporters and its worn thin.

I said punish by nab cup only... that is if your club thinks its not appropriate to be that pissed he can't remember what happened, stand over a female stranger in an intimidating way and get asked to leave a licenced premise???

Other facts are being investigated... but those are established... is that what Richmond wants their players to do? Is it part of his off season training schedule... and what Richmond wants to sell to its sponsors and members???

According to you it is!

Cool...

Go Richmond :thumbsu:

Why give him a punishment like you suggest if he could be up for criminal charges? There's potential
for his career to be over if he's done what the victim has claimed. What's the harm in waiting until all evidence is collated before punishing him?

Said offence occurred Saturday night, she allegedly received death threats, but never wanted to go to the police, it ends up being handed over to the police five days later by the AFL... Sounds suspicious to me..
You never answered my question about who said it was all overstated. Are you ducking and weaving?

As i said in my last 2 posts in this thread some facts have been established... he was pissed... that much he can't remember anything, he was asked to leave a licenced premise for being pissed and having an altercation in public with a stranger... who was a woman, whom he stood over in an intimidating way as the video shows. Forget what was said ( thats being investigated) but all those other facts is that the message the Richmond Footy club wants to send to its playing list, sponsors, supported charities, members and the football fraternity???

Cause as of now they have not said those things are unacceptable... at this point, they are.

Do you think its cool for all of your players to get that wasted during pre season?

If so... 17 other clubs go awesome!

This is correct.
We should all wait until all evidence is collated before judging him on what he has done.

Yep, now the police are involved there is no chance of Richmond or the AFL making this go away.

As i said before the worse thing he did is not remember the incident, it gives him no defence stratergy at all.

I'm sure it will be sorted before the end of the season

Nobody's said he's not entitled to the presumption of innocence. There probably are some people using it as a chance to have a crack at Richmond. But the bulk are just discussing and are appalled by the alleged incident. Cue Richmond fans (for some reason) flooding in to vigorously defend Martin, attack and blame the victim and try to play the whole thing down. Y'all are not defence lawyers. It has nothing to do with any of you.

Richmond (the club) are now rightly copping abuse for (seemingly) trying to hush up the whole incident. That's not "reveling in the opportunity". That's rightly attacking something that's appears pretty disgraceful.
Pffft. His guilt's been determined and sentence has been passed by countless posters.

Revelling? You bet

You've spoken to someone at the club and have concrete proof that that's what they're doing? Post it please, I'd be interested to see the proof.

No doubt there are those who see the issue as an extension of footy, as a chance to give the Tigers a whack. They are sad clowns, and we shouldn't worry about them too much.

What is a worry is that you fail to recognise that a good many people are genuinely disturbed at the thought of a drunken footballer making serious threats to a woman at a restaurant. Don't let your persecution complex blind you to that fact. Yes, Martin deserves a presumption of innocence in a strict legal sense, but that doesn't mean that people will pretend that nothing has happened in the meantime. There is a sketchy outline of some ugly s***, and people are reasonable to feel sickened by it.
A sketchy outline you say? Cool. Let's all speculate on the punishment.
