Disregarding the comparison for a sec, most of Dusty's goals this year have been amazing, its easy to count stats about the number of goals he kicked but if you look closer at how Dusty kicked his goals and from where then...........his grand Final goals were not as much of a surprise, they were a reminded of his prodigious talent.

yeah, crazy goal that, its goals like that that don't show up on the stats sheets, along with the in traffic game braking disposals he does.
Matthews said it best, he has the power of a bricklayer with the finesse to match. We are lucky he stayed a Tiger.

What I like abt Dusty footy talent aside:
-low key, humble
-has taken FULL control of the mental side of performance. Something few other players I am aware of have paid such detailed attention to. He has set the mark in this area. He hasn't just sat back on his talents.

i think Danger may be out of the conversation top 10 and Dusty has moved to number 2 with his eye on Matthews.

Let’s revisit this when Dusty is finished. There’s one thing missing from his CV that Carey, Matthews, GAS & GAJ had and that was excellence in longevity. As brilliant as they were, Cousins and Blight didn’t have that.

Actually agree. I'm assuming longevity for Dusty with hopefully 2-3 more years. I can't leave Cousins and Blight out regardless of time. I just am in awe of both of them and always will be.

Why wouldn't you want Dusty around your club?
For you to put both Ablett so low on this list is laughable. A football family who were so dominate and massive game changes during their careers not just for a few years but most of their career. Snr grand final specialist especially in that hawks vs cats final. Jnr 5 MVP 8 all Australia 2 brownlow one in a dominate year one in a losing club which isn’t easy to get points as they usually go to the winning team.
Both tagged each week and still dominated the game.
Dusty has 3 premierships that you only get as a team and 3 norm smiths if you get to play in a final. Yes he has all awards for 2017 but needs to do a lot more to make top 2 and be given the overused term GOAT

Gary Ablett Snr and Jnr are both in the top 5 of all time.
Matthews and Carey also definitely in.
Number 5 a toss up between the greatest goalkicker of all time despite playing in a lowly team for most of his career (Lockett) and a controversial selection of an amazing 98 game career (Coleman).

One name forgotten by many when talking about GOAT is the great Polly Farmer. While he only played about 100 games in Victoria his contribution to football in WA & VIC was nothing short of profound; he changed the way ruckmen played the game largely through the use of hand-balling. I don't profess to be an expert on the subject, but I don't know of any player whose contribution was as great

Nobody is debating this. The OP goes back to 2016 when it was worth debating. But that's not enough for some Richmond posters who want everyone to acknowledge Dusty is simply the greatest ever. He may end up with that reputation, but its too early to say

its just a list and it's going to be different for different people depending on what they like in a footballer. Maybe Jnr's time at GC has had a negative effect on me. I hope I'm not wrong in saying that he went for $ and did get a reputation of handball receives out the back. Not saying he wasn't brilliant over his whole career though. 5x 8x 2x doesn't really affect how I look at the best. For instance I would have liked to have squeezed Modra in because he was one of the players I enjoyed watching the most.
Yeah Dusty's up there now for mine. The best finals player. Has been the most important part of the dynasty. FWIW I gave then unheralded J Short BOG for the 2020 granny.

GAS 89 is obviously the best. Dusty's efforts have brought home 3 cups though.
I'm not in agreeance about selfish Paddy. But having said that he maybe could have been a bit better at bringing other players into the game ala Dusty.
Lockett should be there too.

I liked your post but I don't agree. Bartlett was on the end of a Tiger tidal wave. Ablett 89 was the sole champion trying to single handedly get the Cats up against The Mighty Hawks.
