In all honesty I don't really understand why North is going after Martin.

Perhaps it's only to make it appear to fans that the club is "doing all it can"

Their rebuild is a long way off being completed. Not sure how Martin fixes their obvious problems.

Yep and pigs "may" fly
Rather cocky arent you.

Especially considering every big name North goes after says no.

Will he sign with North? Possible.

I dint think he will. He has done the bottom of the table thing.
Personally think he will be looking at a finals club that can go for the flag.

North Melbourne is hoping to secure both Dustin Martin and Josh Kelly this off-season

NORTH Melbourne’s board has ticked off on the game’s most audacious recruiting raid — a stunning double play for superstars Dustin Martin and Josh Kelly.

The Herald Sun estimates the combined value of the deals is in excess of the $15 million mark and has confirmed the Kangaroos have enough salary cap space to poach both out-of-contract midfielders.

The Roos would sign Kelly and Martin on long-term deals each worth more than $1 million a season to accelerate the club’s push for a fifth premiership.

KEY GAMES: WHY ROUND 18 IS SEASON’S MOST CRUCIAL

RATINGS SUCCESS: IS YOUR CLUB A RATINGS WINNER IN 2017?

FINALS BOUND: THE 10 GAMES THAT WILL SHAPE THE EIGHT

North has not disputed reports of a nine-year offer for Giants star and childhood Kangaroos fan Kelly while six years is closer to the mark for Tiger Martin.

It’s understood the club has spent considerabletime devising a strategy to land both players in October. Factors include:

ARRIVING as a package would allow Martin and Kelly to share the spotlight.

EXISTING links to Arden St (Kelly’s father Phil played 61 games for North and Martin is a friend of defender Marley Williams).

IMMEDIATE impact on a team which has lost five games by less than a goal.

THE prospect of an influx of father-son and academy prospects eligible to join the following year.

Kangaroos head of football Cameron Joyce on Thursday refused to comment on a dual bid for the stars.

“What I will say is that we were decisive last year in making sure we explored every option and nothing has changed,” Joyce told the Herald Sun.

“We will explore every single option available to us … and we will make sure any prospective move ties in directly with our strategic goal of winning our fifth premiership.”

If the Kangaroos pulled off the Martin-Kelly coup they could then load up with four gun kids at next year’s draft.

They have priority access to father-sons Nick Blakey (son of John), Bailey Scott (son of Robert) and Joel Crocker (son of Darren) plus top indigenous talent Tarryn Thomas through their Tasmanian academy.

Blakey and Scott are also eligible at other clubs.

Reversing North’s five tight losses this season would lift coach Brad Scott’s young side to within one win of the top four.

Scott has privately lamented the need for a game-breaking megastar.

The Kangas would not have to trade for Martin, but Richmond could thwart his potential move by matching a godfather offer for the restricted free agent.

The Tigers have tabled Martin the richest offer in Punt Rd history, but the Brownlow fancy is yet to sign their six-year contract.

If the Roos remain 17th they could begin negotiations for Kelly by offering GWS the No. 2 draft pick.

Retired Kangaroo Nick Dal Santo said Martin and Kelly were top-five midfielders who would give North an “absolute dynamic” look.

“My move there went as smooth as it could’vegone in regards to being welcomed into a newfootball club,” Dal Santo said.

“And I think they have equal opportunity. Resources, equipment, facilities — I always felt that I had everything I ever wanted or needed.”

The Roos attempted to trade into the 2012 mini-draft to secure 17-year-old Kelly, rating him above Jesse Hogan and Jack Martin.

But Gold Coast (Martin) and Melbourne (Hogan) satisfied the Giants with earlier selections.

North holds the third-best percentage by a four-win team in VFL-AFL history after Round 17, highlighting its competitiveness.
For that to be only ticked off by the board now... You might be a bit late to the party

.........because Ralph Carr wants the publicity to try and gain more players for his stable............
All banter aside.

Do you honestly believe this?

Do you honestly believe that Dustin Martin is some zombie moron who is under the spell of Ralph Carr and has no input in to when he signs a deal?

Well......maybe the club knows the outcome so it isn't too worried about taking a public position.

I'm pretty sure the Richmond footy department will be having an urgent meeting in the morning.
If you know the outcome you say nothing. To give the players you've secure breathing space and let them play out their footy without speculation.

That's a "guys we tried everything we could" type article

It doesn't effect his footy and naturally waiting will see his price go up, well also helping a mate out hopefully.
Do you guys think Martin and Kelly would appreciate NM having them splashed all over the papers when they've got finals to focus on?

Where did he say that about Dusty? Oops he didn't, you did.

To use your own philosophy, why hasn't Dusty come out and said he's definitely leaving? Or that he will be accepting or considering another offer? Or that he'd love to play with his mate Marley? (Is he the only mate he has? ;) ) Or that he thinks North have a promising list or some such indication?

Players are generally guided by their manager. They have announced a timeframe for a decision. They will mull over the pros and cons of offers presented. Then announce a decision. They've said that from the start of negotiations. It's called due diligence.

Equally do you believe JK appreciated being splashed around with links to Carlton and St Kilda?

Your position is that Dustin is prepared to sweat Richmond if it gets him more money, and he is placing the needs of his manager above those of his club?

Have I interpreted you correctly?

Do you guys think Martin and Kelly would appreciate NM having them splashed all over the papers when they've got finals to focus on?
This stuff hit the papers back at the start of the year in regards to Kelly, and months ago in regards to Martin.

GWS and Richmond have both ramped up their efforts to re-sign both players, with no luck so far, and in the full glare of the media spotlight.

Lance Franklin, GAJ and Dangerfield all knew that they were leaving at the end of the year at the start of the season.

1) Dustin shuns the media whenever possible.
2) Nobody has asked him most of these questions
3) Answering some of those questions now would be downright unprofessional

They also re-sign when they are advised to do so, or the player wants to do so.

If they wish to go through some post season "mull over" process, then by logical extension, there is a very real possibility he wants to leave Richmond.

I don't think we can escape the "fact" that Dustin is clearly pissed about aspects of the clubs administration. There is no other logical explanation if Richmond are supposedly prepared to match any offers.

No I can't control that I'm only betting he won't join you, I'm pretty confident he will stay from people who have told me as well as knowing who they know.
Oh you mean the bet where I wanted to bet my house, and you laid a miserly $50.

Its happening.

a $50 bet is a realistic bet, a house is not. I can't wait too call you out when North don't get either players and end up with Jasper Pittard on $650,000 a year.
To fm the fact he wants to have a totally unrealistic bet shows deep down he knows it will be history repeating itself and they will miss out again.

Didn't hear Hawks announcing to the world we have O'meara and Mitchell last year with two months too go in the season. How did it go for the Crows announcing they were getting Bryce Gibbs before a deal was signed off?
