Think Richmond supporters should concentrate on keeping Dusty instead of finding every excuse under the sun of why Dusty at North isn't going to work or ruin our list. Alot of expert list managers all of a sudden popping out.

These big offers for elite players are here to stay its the environment we are in. We will go through it with Brown and that's just life.

Everthing is a risk and North won't be challenging for a while and Richmond won't be as good without Dusty either if he leaves but who knows.No one knows what the future holds i think I'll trust my clubs list managers instead of a Richmond supporters having trouble with life without Dusty if he leaves.
Like i said everything is a risk and we will see what the future holds but Dusty might stay at Richmond. Either way both clubs will survive and move on, no player is bigger than the club.

Wow - how did you get that from my post?? 1 + 1 = 3

Buddy's godfather offer has not hurt the Swans at all - like every team they have lost players but still kept their guns to continue to challenge for flags.

I find it funny that 1.5 mill will destroy our cap but 1.2 is fine to fit in the Tigers.
It worked for Sydney because they already had a solid team that was making grand finals, same goes with Hawthorn they already had the frame work built in and traded for the likes of Gibson, Burgoyne etc on decent coin, NMFC are a bottom 4 team going through a rebuild or reset or what ever special terminology Scott wants to put on it and is nowhere near in the same position as other clubs when they offered large contracts to star players.

And it probably won't destroy your cap, NMFC probably does have the cap space to fit him ATM, who's to say in 1-2-3 years time when Brown, Tarrant or any other young up and coming star for NM comes out of contract and other clubs start sniffing around, goodbye to the 100-200k payrise north was hoping to sign that person up on, that club you just poached a player from now has over $1M in cap space to throw around, welcome to the RFC Ben Brown on that nice juicy $800k contract.

So what happens if you re-sign him on 1.2 mil? Rance, Cotchin and Rievoldt would also be on big coin. Prestia didn't come cheap either. What happens when your young up and coming stars come out of contract - won't you also face the same issue?

All 3 of them signed for way unders, and all signed unders when they were being offered large coin from other clubs, Fremantle into Riewoldt, Hawthorn into Rance and GCS big coin to Cotchin, hence why we had cap space to chase a Treloar/Prestia type and got Prestia. We have cap space for Martin and other contracts but $1.2 is looking like our limit as to what were willing to offer.

So the Tigers are fine to sign Martin on 1.2 yet the Roos are stuffed if he signs for 1.5?

You do know that you don't know how much your players get paid?

makes sense. i would think the 1.2 is where you see your cap's limit before it would put pressure on retaining players.

Big call for Dusty. 400k a year (minus tax) and spending a number of years out of the 8 vs. the prospect of a flag in the immediate future.

apologies if it's been mentioned previously in the 181 pages;

If North offer Martin whatever terms they may offer;
What is the timeframe Richmond have to decide to match or walk away?

Fine? We're pushing the limit because North want to splash some money around, why do you think reports are coming out saying 1.2 is our final. If North think they can build a Premiership list spending almost $10M over 7 years going to 1 player then goodluck to them.

Exactly, we have more room, but if we go above what we've offered it ties our hands into either looking at future trading and retaining other players.

you also don't want to get into a price war with a team like North, who could just table a ridiculous offer to get Richmond to go higher than they normally would, then fail to turn a trade around and the Tigers have an offer of 1.7 or 1.8 in front of Martin that signs.

So we are up to 1.6 now? By the end of Sept it will be the entire Salary cap and Dusty will be a 1 man team.

They are already in a price war - their 1st offer was not 1.2 mill.

So many inaccuracies in here it's actually worth a repost for the laughs.
Unless you're going to address these supposed inaccuracies, what is the point of making this post?

You're really just trying to cheapen my post because it clearly doesn't suit your agenda, which is fine because it's common place on here...

I won't hold my breath for a response or reasoned rebuttal.

However much it is, its a lot, and must be close to that.

Richmond have reportedly offered 1.1-1.2m for 7 years, and to get him to move from a top 4 team on the rise to a bottom team that's just starting a rebuild would require a very significant premium.

What I said was “Those teams you listed spent more than one year out of the finals before making the jump.”

That is entirely truthful aside from Geelong but 1 team out

Get used to being cellar dwellers because North won't be making the jump anytime soon. Especially when you haven't even truly bottomed out yet. I hear Waite is going to go round again next year? haha
That is so funny but hey wateva I'll pass on your advice to the club.

Good luck with the rest of the year, realise it's been a while since top four or any success maybe Dusty will take you even further.

Spose Kangaroos had to offer a ridiculous amount to get a decent player over to their club. I'll miss Dusty if he takes the cash, but the club would be silly to match that offer.

Can understand why Kangaroos had to do it. They will miss on Kelly. Pittards re-signed and Motlop looks to be going to Port. All eggs in the one basket now.

Will be interesting to see if Dusty accepts the unders offer to stay at Richmond.

That's easy - rattle tins to help save our skin - then get rich.
Geez, this is interesting. Remember when you guys were up for sale and big Jack had plans for North in the nineties? Hello pot, meet kettle.
