He's not going to walk to the PSD, honestly, it doesn't need to be explained. It's not going to happen.
Who was the last big name to do that?
Nick Stevens.

Wanted out of Port for Collingwood, a deal couldn't get done, so he nominated for the PSD and ended up at Carlton.

There was no compensation pick allocated back in those days, so in hindsight, i'm pretty sure Port would have taken the pick on offer rather than get nothing for a player.

As I thought. There are none.
Exactly.
Buddy and Danger are the only times since FA began where a FA eligible player WHO IS WORTH CLEARLY MORE THAN THEIR COMPO PICK has moved clubs by ANY means.

I've already discussed why buddy went by FA, not trade- which leaves Danger.

Danger isn't an exception- he's just the only time it's happened so far.

So what I'm saying will/would happen with dusty has occured in 100% of all previous comparable cases.
1 from 1.

Soon to be 2 from 2 if dusty doesn't re-sign.

Are you a closet Richmond fan or something? I can understand them deluding themselves as a coping mechanism. Just doesn't make a lot of sense for an apparent neutral to do so also.

So you would have happily accepted pick 18 and not matched for buddy if sydneys off was only slightly more than the hawks offer?

Because that is exactly what you are suggesting the tigers should do with dusty.

So 10 or so years ago. Thats the only big example I can think of.

I've been very up front about that in this thread. At the time I did. I thought it made sense and I believed we would do it. We didn't do it and I was confused and disappointed.

But since then I've had the chance to critically review the situation, see things from the clubs point of view, and see it unfold at other clubs. With so many uncontrollable variables the decision not to match was in the best interest of the club.

Yeah but it was a no brainer NOT to match buddys sydney offer because it was 9 years on mega money for a 27 year old KPF.

Matching a 6-7 year deal for a 26 year old dusty is a very different proposition.

I'll ask you again- IF the swans offer to buddy was say 5 years (because dusty is a year younger than buddy was), instead of 9... you would have been happy for the hawks to just roll over and take pick 18?

Because that is the equivalent of what you are suggesting richmond do.

I get the feeling you would have smashed a pokie machine if the hawks lost buddy over such a minor difference in offers, while accepting lousy compensation.

Hahahahaha

Hawthorn supporters don't do pokie machines

We own them, run them, and reap the rewards, but we don't touch them!

Don't you know they're bad for you! ;)

I would have at the time, yes, definitely. But I'd still have come to the same conclusion regarding the business risk down the line. And based on the outcome as we stand now it still would have remained as the right decision for the club. It's why despite having fallen to the bottom four we don't have a mass exodus on our hands. Hawthorn does right by its players.

Now go smash a school girl or a flaming dwarf or whatever stereotypical thing your club is into.

Gut feeling is Richmond will give him what he wants to stay (whether that equals his best offer, or is less than, remains to be seen) and he'll stay.

They would need enormous compensation to not end up the losing side in a deal with Dusty leaving. They aren't a one-man band but he's consistently dragging Richmond to the 4 points anyway just because he can.

His 2017 is simply flogging his 2016 too, so much less shit fluffing around the half-back, and kicking more goals (his 2nd best year goalkicking) and driving the ball forward. Worth every cent he gets paid.

I'd throw whatever we have left in the cap at him. $1.6m a year or more if need be. Exactly what we need and precisely why we won't go for him
Not sure the Bombers would have that sort of cap room. Given the shit your players went through there is no doubt youve overpaid to keep some of them.

According to the ITK people we have tons. Not as much as the Saints or North but enough to splash. Daniher signed for way unders and Goddard/Jobe are on huge contracts that end this year

You just can't see him leaving.. I'd absolutely love him and throw the kitchen sink. Say 1.5 x 7

But the rise of the Tigs and a fairly young list - smells simply of a player manager getting the most out of their current club. Richmond will offer above 1mill p.a and retain him. If the Tigs can land a tall forward - Reid for example in the off season, they'll be contenders. Enough to keep the team together.
