Kelly is already one of the best players in GWS, younger, way more upside, offers outside class in the midfield, he is ready right now where as a few top draft picks could take years to develop and even then there is always a risk that they don't turn into a decent player

So much more.

Given that we have such a large kitty, getting just one superstar means that allows us to immensely front end that contract, so that single contract has less impact on our salary cap. We can afford to pay our best players close to their market value, and have enough money to have a red hot go at the next free agent that meets our needs.

If it is Dusty, as many have pointed out, we get to keep our first round draft pick.

Richmond's offer of $1.2M x 7 has Richmond officials publicly expressing that this offer almost certainly secures Martin, suggesting maybe that they have matched any offer made to Martin?

Well what if they haven't matched the offer?

What if Raphy baby gave no reassurance that Dusty would sign the new offer so the Tiges are going public about how confident they are that Martin will re-sign?

What if Carr is telling Dusty that the Tiges are short about 1.5M over the life of the contract plus they also stiffed you your last contract so they owe you another Million there so they are way short still?

Who knows really it's all pure speculation but some fascinating by-play is being played out in a very public way. I am unsure whether Carr or Richmond instigated this very public negotiation process but it is fantastic to observe and try to intepret.

I wonder if the reason we are confident on Martin and not Kelly, is that Martin has already flagged his intent to join us and Kelly hasn't yet.
We are unsure about Kelly is due that Richmond may match our offer where we then need to give up our first pick plus some.

Their is uncertainty on how much we will need to give up for him if Richmond chooses to match our offer.

Its all bird in a hand stuff really.
Martin has said yes so we are keen to get him. If we wait for Kelly who hasn't said anything, we may miss out on both.

I believe RFA has to be lodged first so if we wait for Kelly to make up his mind and he chooses to stay at GWS, we may end up missing the Martin boat.
