What is the point of it at all?

It's pointless...if I buy something it should work anywhere!

The only style equivalent would be like buying a book in New York and watchin the ink fade as you flew to Sydney.

Originally it was supposed to stop you from buying titles overseas before they have shown theatrically locally.

Which doesn't explain why reissues etc are region coded. The annoying thing is that releases aren't consistent worldwide.. half the time the region 4 releases are inferior to their region 1/2 counterparts - or simply aren't released here.

Its even more pointless when you discover half of the machines have built-in cracks that allow them to play all regions.

This may be a stupid question but where can i buy a region free DVD player from? Do you have to buy them over the internet or can you buy them from just about anywhere?

For your pc? Or hifi?

PC DVD drives can be firmwired and most DVD's sold at JB and other retailers, are region free.
