Why does Dwayne feel compelled to make a grandiose statement after every single goal is kicked? He pauses dramatically as the ball sails through and then makes a weirdly out of context all-encompassing call, EVERY time.

Eg. "Amazing!" or "Perfection!" for a standard goal; or "It's party time!", "That's golden Brown!" whenever Jonathan Brown does anything etc.

Because he's come up with a line he likes, and really really wants to use it.

Agree is the worst commentator on any channel, he doesn't even know the players either. Watching the Gold Coast V Essendon and there appears to be 2 shaws on the field. He keeps on calling Iles #36 Shaw and when Shaw is actually #26. So according to Dwayne there is two Shaws on the field. Got know ****ing idea.

Can not agree with this more. He was as horrible today he is every game, but today was just grating on the ears. He gets invested in one team's performance to the point of actively barracking for them, and he constantly repeats things, over and over - it's just nauseating to listen to.

In the opening quarter today, he kept saying 9 goals was the most Essendon had ever kicked in a 1st quarter (our record was 11.3)

Later in the opening quarter, he said 11 goals was was the most Essendon had ever kicked in any quarter (our record was 13.4)

This guy is a certifiable idiot. Is he incapable of looking up stats? Are his co-commentators similarly incapable of correcting the idiot?

For me I think it's his exaggeration that really grates. For a former elite level footballer he is constantly amazed by the non-amazing. He described a handball from Monfries as "brilliant' - it missed his teammate and hit the ground. He was also gobsmacked by the fact that Watson became the Bombers' 13th goalkicker - at that stage they had kicked about 23 goals. Not sure how many goalkickers he would expect at that stage. He is just so painful to listen to.

I suffer these orangutangs every week and try to pretend I'm only paying for the footage, because the buffoons in the box aren't worth a cent - especially Duhwayne. We should be compensated for putting up with the jerk off.

Yeah but Dwayne isn't the only commentator on Fox. BT is worth the subscription alone, and Matthew Campbell isn't bad either.

that game i had to mute the TV. I missed the last quarter as i had to drive in to work, and i actually enjoyed the game better listening to AM radio than watch it on TV.

Says a lot about Dwayne. I wonder if we could somehow get Fox to read this thread.

i come back to this thread after every weekend...

I've just sent some negative feedback to fox sports regarding this flog and urge others to do the same. If they get enough hopefully it will get to him in some way so he can change his ways

The one that made me switch off this weekend was how he thought he was so funny commenting on the fact that players who kick a goal always run to the bench and they would be better off hand balling and getting the assist so they can stay on the ground. He even chuckled to himself after he said it

He says this every bloody game and probably more than once per game.

Was it Schwass commentating the Brisbane game? He was terrible this week as well. He was getting so many player names wrong.

How bad is his acting on the "AFL Winners presents..." countdown shows? It looks like he's been to a TAFE course on how to present TV by using really big hand gestures and exaggerated facial expressions.

We've had many a good laugh over his badly (but obviously) rehearsed hand actions, head tilts and nods and the biggie he uses for show - the eyebrow raise.

Yeah WTF was Schwass doing?

I think he called Jesse O'Brien as Tom Rockliff every time, and appeared to have no idea who most of the Brisbane players were. He also kept praising 'Colby' for his 'good work' on the boundary, even though Colbert was offering nothing (as usual). Schwass struck me as totally unprofessional and somebody who only watches the 'big' clubs (which is interesting given his North Melbourne origins).

But back on topic. Fox Sports must act soon before Dwayne causes the vast majority of their audience to commit suicide.

Schwass is one of the worst callers ever, there's a good reason why be basically only calls a couple of games a year, normally Round 22 when there are multiple matches on in the same time-slot. He is awful.

He's the same as Matt Campbell (used to like him; not sure why) they both get a ridiculous amount of players wrong. It's like every second player they're getting wrong.

Back to Russell though, he seems to be gettiing more annoying which I didn't think was possible.

There are many really poor commentators now (just about all of them), but for a combination of incompetence, idiotic hype, and plain irritation he is very hard to top.

I think its going to get worse from here. I reckon Fox will be trialing out a few of these blow ins for regular gigs next year. If they are covering all games with their own commentary team then they will have these guys as regulars.

Whats this got to do with kicking an above average goal in football? It's not an easy job being a commentator, but repeating the same old hyperbole we hear every week is not good. Being excited like Brian Taylor's a good thing - sure he says some tripe sometimes, but he's very passionate and he doesn't say the same stuff week in week out which makes him good to listen to.
