To the best of my knowledge, F/S selections are made prior to trade week, to stop the above happening :)

Imagine away. F/S nominations close before trade week if I recall correctly.

Well that sucks. Risky business for sides making a call that early, too bad if the deal of a life time came up in trade week and they couldn't go through with it becuase they'd already committed.

Someone will force Carltons hand you'd think, if we talked him into not going to GWS, they'll (other clubs) will know we are going to take him regardless.

Why don't we hide him in Canberra like Essendon did with Hird. Might throw a few clubs off the scent.

I thought it was "next available" though. Meaning if we had pick 21 (second round), and pick 38 (third round), and a club used their second round (23 overall), we could still throw up our 3rd rounder ...
If a team that finished below us bids for Buckley with their first round pick, we have to use our first round pick.

If a team that finishes above us bids for Buckley with their first round pick, we have to use our second round pick.

And so on and so forth...

Do want....Sam Day

Based on hear say.

The AFL are reactionary idiots for even allowing other clubs to bid for a Father-son pick and get a player outside of the draft.

Only the club the father played for should have access to a F/S pick.

Would the official records say Pick 23, Dylan Buckley, Father-Son selection, Richmond if we didn't want to match a bid?

Another club could have cheated Geelong out of Selwood if they had bidpick one to five to bid for Hawkins.

IIRC, Hawkins was rated as a top tenner in 2006.

Geelong would have had to use pick six if Port had bid for Hawkins, but only pick 23 if West Coast had bid for Hawkins with the Mitch Brown selection. The other clubs could snooker the club if they know he's worth it and push that club out of the first round.

That could cause another quality player to drop to their selection.

Just like Murphy being drafted with pick one after opting to nominate for the draft.

Just like with tanking and priority picks, the AFL only changed the rules because clubs won a flag after receiving quality players with priority picks and father-son selections.

The AFL just make it up as they go along. :thumbsd:

If another club bids for a Father-son pick, by rights, the AFL should allocate draft pick to the club who has first and last rights on him as a F/S pick.

That might make clubs think again if they want to bid.

The rule becomes a joke and contradiction if other clubs are allowed access to another team's F/S talent.

Second round pick at the most to continue the spirit of the F/S rule or scrap it all together.

*end of rant*

How do they choose the kids for AIS, are they the kids who they think are the best or what?
No, they take the worst ones possible and try to turn them into future AFL superstars
No, that's Richmond you're thinking of.

If he did end up at Carlton, would his locker be on the opposite side of the ground to everyone else's?

You complete tool! 24 Carat right there, Yosser. :thumbsu::D:thumbsu:

Don't be surprised if we have to match a higher round pick for this kid. Absolute gun on both feet, good footy brain, trains hard and has been playing in a higher age group for years.

Will be very exciting when we land him.

If we make the finals the year Buckley is able to be drafted our 1st round pick will be as follows due to GWS's picks

8th place finnish will be pick 18
7th place finnish will be pick 19
6th place finnish will be pick 20
5th place finnish will be pick 21
4th place finnish will be pick 22
3th place finnish will be pick 23
2th place finnish will be pick 24
1th place finnish will be pick 25

so even if we do give up our 1st round pick, which ATM seems likely, we may be getting a true value 1st round pick compared to every other team that finishes around us who's 1st round pick is more like a 2nd rounder. Good year to have father/son pick really.

Blues may move on Dylan Buckley

CARLTON is likely to commit to drafting the son of former club great Jimmy Buckley more than 18 months ahead of schedule, or risk losing him to the incoming western Sydney team.

The Blues have indicated an interest in signing Dylan Buckley, who turns 17 today, under the father-son rule in the 2011 draft. But the club will be forced to make an early - some would say premature - assessment of Buckley jnr because, if they do not commit to him this year, Greater Western Sydney can list him as one of its 12 elite 17-year-olds.

Well said

I wonder if this means we can have Dylan running around with the Bullants, or down with the development people once the decision has been made, to help fast track his develoment ..............

Did I hear right?

Swann on Dylan on SEN; He is ours

You didn't read the article linked to in Page #3 did you .............. :p:p:p

Important info

The AFL has ruled that the father-son rule takes precedence over players who can be listed by GWS or Gold Coast, but those father-son prospects still have to put through a draft and ''bid'' - with the team that nominates him having to ''match'' the bid.

We also

the club will be forced to make an early - some would say premature - assessment of Buckley jnr because, if they do not commit to him this year, Greater Western Sydney can list him as one of its 12 elite 17-year-olds.

So IF we wan't him under the f/s rule we must commit this year, and it will cost us our 1st rd pick in 2011 draft (the GWS will bid a 1st rd pick on him knowing we must match it as we have already committed to him)

GREAT news as we can have him, bad timing as we are locked in to get him with out 1st rd pick and IF (god forbid) he has a career ending injury then we are stuck wasting our only decent pick in the 2011 draft.

I am 100% confident that if the AFL see a possibilty to screw us...they will jump at it.

He certainly sounds worth the punt.

Full of AIS goodness!
