Just watched the CFCTV interview with Dylan and his dad. I know it's a cliche but he really does look to have a great head on his shoulders. Very well spoken and doesn't seem to have much ego about him. A good point made during the interview is that now he has committed to Carlton he'll be able to use our resources to get the best out of himself and get ready to make an impact asap. Obviously a while off yet, but I'm excited

The way I have read the whole thing (which could quite possibly be wrong) is that we WILL be using our 1st rd pick on Dylan NO MATTER WHAT .............

By committing to him to prevent the GWS taking him as an uncontracted player we have basically declared him as our 1st rd pick in 2011, much like Swallow has been declared (effectively) the #1 pick from this year's draft. IF Carlton was to back flip and NOT take him with their 1st rd pick then GWS have been screwed out of the chance to get him for free as an under aged 17 yr old, and Dylan has been screwed out of a year's wages and development with the GWS team ............... We all know that the AFL won't let it's baby, the GWS, get screwed over and the CFC won't screw over a club legend's son (we would be a laughing stock if we did)

I would say this deal is been in the workings for a pretty long time, and today was the day it was finally approed/they decided to announce it (may have had something to do with Dylan turning 17 ???)

That might look premature, but Buckley must be a jet to be given a guarantee this early.

GWS were obviously sniffing around and hoping to snag him as one of their twelve seventeen year olds.

Seeing that Dylan being drafted to Carlton appears to be an almost certainty, is there anything stopping us from having him down at the club in some capacity from this point in time? For example, have him train with the boys for parts of the preseason coming or have a session every now and again during the year?

Obviously he's got his own priorities in the TAC Cup but it'd be a huge benefit to have access to the resources of an AFL footy club at his age, on top of being part of the AIS...

Good call, evidenced again by all the turnovers we've had across half-back this pre-season. I wonder with our strong midfield whether Kane Lucas could be the man once he's got the experience.

Well even if he only turns out to be average it's still a bonus getting this bloke because what we could normally get with the compromised draft will be lucky to be good enough to get a game IMO, especially if we are finishing high up like we should.

Maybe he'll grow to be a KPP like Simon White (was a mid until a growth spurt of 15 to 20 cms) and Jake Carlisle (grew 22 cms in a year) to make MCB happy.
