Dylan Buckley

Six minute interview and not one 'yeahnah'...I've seen enough to be confident in the decision.

That's funny Kramer.
I recognize that I'm not in the same generation, but that term would have been cringe worthy in any era.
A true shocker. Add on a sleeve tat and you have a look and sound destined for a NASA time capsule.

Jim Buckley stood at 178cm.
Dylan looks to have him well and truly covered by at least 5cm and has only just turned 17.

I don't think I'd be too worried by the perceived lack of height just yet.

I love the part when Jimmy suggest that Dylan may not be too academic.
Just have a look at Dylan turn towards his dad, wanting to say something.
I know what I would have said.

You're old enough to remember Jimmy aren't you??

My memories are relatively vague these days, but I do remember him being very physical

Lotta people gloss over the Mozzie fleet as soft players.

Harmes, Johnston, Ashman, Jimmy all loved a scrap, hell even Bomba put Ronnie Wearmouth into hospital one Easter Monday, 4/6?? week holiday, and he sat Wiley on his arse at the start of the '82 gf.

HA Ha Jim wouldn't be 178 cm these days he has weight on him everyone gets shorter when they older. It's strange how people get shorter.

How tough does his Dad look?

Jimmy looks like a bulldog.

And reportedly play the same way.

I remeber seeing Jimmy play, he was tough as, played it hard on the field and off...was a gun, '82 best and fairest.
And, always in a bit of trouble was our Jimmy

Bluseum has a great synopsis :

Point of order.

6ft isn't too short to be an AFL midfielder. It might not be tall these days, but it ain't too short.

On the money there CHYTD,
10 years ago every footballer was gunna be Kouta,
he was the prototype - the gay ambition of every football journo,
but as the game evolved, and everyone missed the point,
still there is a place for a 6'10 giraffe, or a Paul Callery type small, as it is all owning posession footy (20 contested marks per game nowadays), and it's still a game that anyone,
with half an ounce of ability can play.

And i like that.

Ha ha just saw the Dylan interview on youtube and my favorite part was when Jimmy said ... 'Yeah its a long hard walk but he´s up to it ... actually I guarantee he´s up to it'.

Jimmy... he is so Jimmy ... and when he gives his guarantee...geez the guy eats nails and shits out bullets!

You can see Jimmy is absolutely chuffed his son is following his footsteps with the mighty blues, he appreciates that Carlton has made this commitment to his son and will make sure (actually he guaranteed it!) that Dylan will not lower the standard that he himself set.

Very, very happy with this decision by the club .. it speaks volumes as to why we have been so successful over the years ... Carlton is a family and always looks after its past champions.

You do right by the Blues and they will always do right by you ... and thats the way it should be.

Jimmy was as tough as nails and as hard as the hammer that drove them in.

But the VFL was a much more physical competition than the soft athletic AFL these days. They definitely weren't afraid of giving or coping a wack or two while they were playing.

From that footage, I noticed that Dylan said that it's good now because he has access to the clubs resources to help him out... he would have had them anyway being the son of a triple premiership player for the club.

I also noticed that he is a pretty good speaker as well. Quite composed with his responses.

All very good in the long run and I am stoked that he will be at the club...

Could call him S.O.B (son of Buckley) ... the funny thing is its other meaning probably would not be lost on a number of Jimmy's old opponents ... hahahaha

Please Dylan .. grow a couple of cm's before November 2011 !!

.. and put on a few kgs.

Paul Chapman / Gary Ablett jr. height right now.
I wouldn't be too concerned about height if he can play.

Still a young lad and more than likely to grow.
He won't be playing in the AFL at 68kgs. Nothing to worry about there.

His dad was a pretty solid unit and I am certain that he will be as well... so long as he doesnt lose any pace while he is filling out :D

He will fill out over the next 2 years with all the extra assistance from the blues now :)

Even so,

Ideally .. I'd like him to grow around 14 cms if he can before Nov' 11. :)

Jesus, Rich and Selwood have really ruined it for all the other kids haven't they?

Thy kid is 16, he's absolutely fine. Scully was 182 and 74 kgs when drafted ffs.

Only on bigfooty is it better to be tall/heavy than good

I'm pretty sure Jesus would have been around the 185 cm mark.

Beware the lark.

You need to log in more often....... His sense of humour isn't that hard to pick anymore ;)

He certainly is Shmurf :thumbsu:

I went to the same school as Vin & he was a very good friend of mine back then. Of course he is older than me :p

Have seen him a few times in recent years at our games & we still chat about the good old days.

Small world, think I might have gone to school with you Aph and C4s dad.
