Carlton and Hawthorn have expressed interest in recruiting Brisbane Lions ruckman Dylan McLaren in the pre-season draft.

McLaren, 23, is out of contract and weighing up whether he wishes to continue with Brisbane or return to Victoria and establish himself as a ruckman with a less-seasoned team.

St Kilda pursued McLaren during last week's trading period, but was unable to reach a deal with Brisbane.

Both Carlton and Hawthorn have been in the market for a relatively inexpensive ruckman, with the Blues having little back-up for Barnaby French.

Chris Bryan, 23, who made his debut this year, is the only genuine ruckman, besides French, on the senior list; Adrian Deluca has played most of his senior football as a forward...

... The Lions have another young Victorian out of contract in Troy Selwood, whom Collingwood has earmarked as a potential pre-season draftee. Selwood trained with Brisbane on Tuesday and again yesterday.(From The Age)

Well Carlton do need a Ruckman, but I can't work out why we're not the one's actively chasing Selwood. Having said that we'll know more when contracts are finalised.

Last year it looked like Trent Knobel was Carlton bound in the PSD, and we all know what happened there.

I'd hope they start playing Aisake in the VFL as a ruck or Batson in case Bryan and Deluca don't make it (quite possible.)

it's best off carlton do not do their recruiting via the media, over the trade period we have kept our cards close to our chest on who we are targeting, this is a good thing

You make an excellent point.

Most of the hacks on footy at the moment are z grade team journos.
(if there is such a thing), while the rest are on vacation.

Probably aiming for a job on the subbies bench, or features,
still remember the cadet that told us Voss would never play again a couple of years ago.
Am losing intersest in this current draft talk,
and when you get a lead about some footballer dancing,
well we are right in the middle of silly season.

Carlton know who they want.

Exactly, what does the club gain from telling people who they want to draft. It's best if we only find out who we're drafting when it happens.

according todays heraldsun we are seriously considering taking dill-an with our no.1 pick in the psd.
