I think the thing that will decide how good he becomes is his decision making. He's such a nice kick that every possession he tries to make something happen, and takes the "hit or miss" kick. He'll either have to become one of the best kicks in the comp in which case he'll be a very good player, or he'll have to learn when is the right time to make the "play-making" kick and when is the time to play it safe.
1 in 2 is not a bad strike rate for draft picks - especially given that Fyfe could be anything. We've got Fyfe, Ballantyne, Clarke, Ibbotson, Mayne
But we've also got:
Pitt, Houghton, Clayton Hinkley, Clayton Collard, Adam Campbell
The range between 20 and 40 is generally hit and miss. Roberton falls closer to the 1st group than the 2nd.
As were Daniel Foster (pick 23), Charlier Gardner (23), Tim Callan (36), Cameron Thurley (22), Brent Prismall (32), Stephen Owen (35) and Nathan Djerrkura (25). All taken during a period when the Cats were considered one of the best recruiters in the league. That's not true if cards are played correctly in draft/player development. Just from Geelong alone, Bartel, Ling, Chapman, Wojcinski, Duncan, Christensen, Vardy and Stevie J were all in that pick range.
What did I say Bartel for? That was stupid...As were Daniel Foster (pick 23), Charlier Gardner (23), Tim Callan (36), Cameron Thurley (22), Brent Prismall (32), Stephen Owen (35) and Nathan Djerrkura (25). Also Bartel was pick 8
No thanks... Don't want him as part of a deal for Gumby... Would prefer just some draft picks. Don't think Ess need that type of player.
Upgrade on David Myers IMO.

So a kid drafted at pick 49 in 2009 (A so called weak draft) goes on to play 30 odd games over 3 years without cemeting his spot in an average team is then worth a pick between 20-35 in a Superdraft.Geez a 2nd rounder is made to sound like a great pick. It's somewhere between pick 20 and 40. Not that big of an ask.

How is that logical?
What has he done to show he is worth giving up a much better pick than when he was drafted?Enjoyed your use of weak draft, super draft and average team to labour the point. Take out the descriptive terms and your describing a reasonable exchange.
A kid picked at number 49, plays 30 games in 3 years, requesting pick 20-35 for a trade. Sounds reasonable.

Went to primary school/high school and played some footy with Dylan at Frankston YCW juniors. Good bloke, hope he gets a better shot at another team, because Fremantle aren't giving him a decent crack.

Haha perhaps but Myers is close to getting a new deal at Bomberland, still think he has a part to play in our midfield![]()
Robertons? Get rid of IMO.Third rounder, if Freo throw in the letter s.
A team that finished 7th and handed out a hiding to the reigning premiers at the G? Get your hand off it mate. Roberton showed real class and poise in his few outing this year, watch his game against Collingwood to see how well this young man can play.So a kid drafted at pick 49 in 2009 (A so called weak draft) goes on to play 30 odd games over 3 years without cemeting his spot in an average team is then worth a pick between 20-35 in a Superdraft.

Cool story bro!A team that finished 7th and handed out a hiding to the reigning premiers at the G? Get your hand off it mate. Roberton showed real class and poise in his few outing this year, watch his game against Collingwood to see how well this young man can play.
Just staggers me the way draft picks are over-rated here compared to players who have demonstrated they can perform at the top level. He's not a superstar but he's (by all accounts) at complete professional in his training, of strong character, lives to play footy and has shown he can play the game. 22, 3 years in the system, big tank ready to go.Yet the lure of Magic Beans trumps all here on BigFooty.
Fortunately in the real world where recruiters who get paid for this stuff live, reality is where it's at. Will attract plenty of interest if he has in fact asked to leave. I for one will be sorry if he does go, is earmarked for our back 6 when older players (you know, guys with hard experienced bodies like McPhee who are denigrated here but gold for actual coaches like Lyon who know how to win games of footy) are moved on.
