Roberton --Stat-- Cripps
191cm --Height-- 183cm
82kg --Weight-- 73kg
40 --Career Games-- 22
10 --2012 Games-- 12
79.25% --Disposal Efficiency-- 70.09%
12 --Clangers-- 23
5 --Clearances-- 5
50 --Contested Poss.-- 40
29 --Marks-- 35
18 --Tackles-- 32

I don't think a straight swap is fair.
If we are required to bring in another 6' midfielder/flanker with a knack for turning it over, perhaps we can do this;
Roberton + pick 16 for Cripps + pick 12

Then, instantly de-list Cripps and use pick 12 to get Shaw.

Quality! Why not just do Roberton and 16 for 12 then?

I shouldn't imagine we'd be remotely interested in Cripps. Ross had the opportunity and chose not to play him at St Kilda. Now he has much better young players at his disposal.

From Carlton i'd be interested in Josh Bootsma and some vague interest in Paul Bower (though his disposal is shocking).

We lack 190cm defenders of any quality. We have great tall defenders, McPharlin, Johnson, Dawson are a very capable trio. McPhee is exceptional as the player who intercept marks and plays tall or short. We have no-one to replace him in the near future. We have a plethora of medium small defenders, Duffield, Ibbotson, Broughton, Spurr, Suban, Forster, Roberton, Silvagni, but none are top quality. Of that group i'd have Duffield, Broughton and Spurr leading the group with Ibbotson, Roberton and Silvagni not far behind. Suban has fallen off the pace and looks better in the midfield and we have barely seen Forster.

It would be nice if 1 or 2 of the latter group could step up and become better players. Then our defence would look OK, with Ibbotson and Roberton remaining uncontracted i wonder if they are our trade bait.

I would have like the club to have taken Bootsma and wouldn't mind the question being asked Roberton for Bootsma.

EDIT; you and me rgauci. Two keyboards, 1 brain.

Like yourself and Rgauci wouldn't be adverse to this one.

Don't think we need to even consider Bower, he'll be lucky to be on Carlton's list at the end of trade week. We'll probably be able to pick him up as a free agent.

Hope we get something good for him. The guy is a maniac!!! I think a guy who wears a headband and has a cool stash must be worth a first rounder or a direct swap for hipster of equal value imo.

Really disappointed, thought he was really coming on this year. Especially in the Wafl games I saw. Just wondering, would diabetes affect Cripps' ability to play the game?

Was wondering the same thing. From the net I got this:

Type 1 – 10-15% of diabetics have type 1 diabetes mellitus (also called insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) or juvenile-onset diabetes). Its onset is usually during childhood or adolescence, although it can occur at any age. It is thought to be caused by an autoimmune disorder in which the person’s own immune system mistakenly turns on and destroys the cells of the pancreas gland that are responsible for producing insulin. This immune attack stops the body producing its own insulin and type 1 diabetics therefore depend on prescribed insulin.
In 1997 Steve Redgrave was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus. In 2000 he won his fifth consecutive Olympic gold; in doing so he proved that diabetic athletes can achieve great things with the right approach.

Roberton for Cripps?
Do not want either of them - both just paddling!
Use Roberton to either get us another pick or a KPF type surely? Infact, if we packaged him up with Ibbo or Clarke or Silvagni - well the mind boggles at what great positioning we are for trading and/or draft. This 2-3 year flag opportunity we now have just demands some ruthless moves now.

Jamie Bennell for Robbo??? JB would love the wide open expanses of Patterson's Stadium.

I'm not convinced that:

OK player + average player + serviceable player = mind boggling player.
No, youre right. So we can keep these a+b+c and lose another semi or prelim final .... They do say "you're only as strong as your weakest 6 players" at finals time.
A+B+C will at least get us much better than "A" (Roberton) alone - is all I'm saying.

Unless Jamie's real name is Harley, no...Jamie is a crab

The Mandurah Crab festival are threatening legal action if you continue to defame crabs like this Lach

This is what Bigfooty posters fail to understand. Quantity does not equal quality. Draft picks with a player is what gets you quality, and it has to be quality draft picks. Try and find a trade over the years where a bunch of average players will get you one quality one, with no high draft pick thrown in. And don't include any Freo or Richmond trades.

So we would get even more if we chucked in JA? Not every player adds value to a trade.

Seriously? A spud who struggles to get a game at your club for a young developing player who is solid at AFL level. No thanks. And didn't he do his ACL this year?

I fully understand the concept Brades. My thinking is to trade off players for picks. Then, through the wonders of trade time, you're then able to bundle picks or a combination of players and picks to then swap for a higher pick or as a sweetener to get the target you want.
Eg. I don't think Essendon would be that keen to direct swap Robbo for Gumby. But if we had also traded off another player for pick 50 and then handed that on to the Bombers also - then we would probably get our man.
Trade time is simply finding the value placed by the club you're dealing with and then going about meeting that cost. Hopefully the ledger may just weigh a little in our favour too once the to & fro bullshit is finished.

Well that is quite different to what you said of A+B+C=X

Sure, I didn't probably put it clear enough first time round. It is highly unusual these days for one club only to swap one player for two. But you never know how other clubs might perceive the value of our fringe players. We might laugh, but who's to say that perhaps the Bulldogs don't see JA as a possible answer to their forwardline woes and are then willing to hand over pick 60 or something to us for him. That pick then offers up one more bargaining chip to go get the prize we want.
My main idea in all this is that Blind Freddy knows we are after more help in the KPF area. The club has stated that and may be willing to offer a little over the odds te get someone.
I generally think the "trade for today" and "draft for the future" motto is a fairly good one. Right now we need to trade hard, otherwise we will finish 4th, 5th, 6th over the next few years - our guns will retire and we may all be thinking how much better we could've gone with just one more KPF and one more solid midfielder.

In all seriousness, he has got to be one of the worst players in the AFL at the moment. Casey Scorpions must laugh when he gets a game at the demons, and even then, thats rare. If you can't get a game at Melbourne right now, your in some serious trouble.
