Hey guys I've known Dylan since he was a young teenager, he's mates with my GF's brother. I know he's struggling to get into the seniors, just wondering what you guys thought of him.

Dylan seems to have a lot of friends of relatives asking these questions about him. They pop up in the forum at least once a month :)

I think he's likely to be delisted at the years end. While he's good in close, gets his hand on the ball and delivers it out cleanly by a handball etc. around the ground he really struggles. His disposal is poor. He is as tough as nails, but can only be used in bursts.

He'd be very lucky to get picked up by another team IMO.

That's a fair appraisal of him womby. By all accounts he's a great bloke and is burning it up in the WAFL, but will never be more than a fringe-of-the-fringe-midfielder, who really only got a run this year because of all our injuries. A handy guy to have in that situation, and may be retained for that reason - but would definitely be on the list for being cut IMO. Not sure what his contract status is though.
Does get the ball, and has value as an "in and under" player but is no Sam Mitchell, and his general skill level isn't up to standard I wouldn't think.

Cheers guys.

A team like Melbourne could use him now, they are having in and under player troubles ATM. I remeber he went early to the Roo's in the draft (middle top ten) shame he hasn't pressed on to be a regular AFL player.

His sister also plays for the Australin Cricket Team. (Bit of useless information for you all).

In a sad twist, I knew this, as my Mum and Dad met her last week in Northam (I think) and later phoned me to find out who Dylan Smith was.

He grew up in my area and some great friends of mine were in his yr level at school and were good mates, and they went up for a holiday to see him.

I saw in the Syd game he had 12 or so disposals to half time, but only had 3-4 after that

I think he is a handy player but the problem is with Hasleby, Cook, Bell and Josh Carr as senior players who aren't that quick it becomes hard for Dylan Smith to slot into the side unless the weather is poor. Shows good leadership out on the ground and works hard, but as fat wombat mentioned he probably won't be on our list next season. He would have something to offer for the Victorian clubs with quick midfields like the bulldogs and Melbourne, but it's unlikely he will be picked up if de-listed at seasons end.
