Im not sure thats legal?
It may not be about the $$$$ but you are entitled to get your prizemoney in a reasonable amount of time....
I dont know too many who'd cop that?

Why do you say "its the only way we can get into the game & get a decent horse?"
Its a cliche but it really doesnt matter what you pay...look at the Derby fave.
$30K after being passed in at the sales

Many thanks to you and Bobby Beecroft. Now is probably not the right time for myself but it is defenitely something that interests me - I will use the above method when the time is right.

What are some of the good horses that have just come out of nowhere for minimal spend? What are the chances for prize money type success? (I know that's largely not what it is about but I'm still interested)

I recall Mandela had a story about it being a relatively cheap horse.

If im not mistaken i think the hussler was really cheap?

Yeah again i see your point. But them's the rules, if there is any money to be had id rather get it in a lump sum than $500 here and there but thats just me. Its not like they will be holing out tens of $1000's. It seems there is a lot who cop it cos dynamic seems to be doin ok, maybe its cos of suckers like me , who knows?

Its all well and good that whobe was cheap but i do take comfort in the fact that this filly had some real cash splashed on her and she would be extremely valuable as a broodmare if she gets some black type. Whobe is obviously one in a million and thats awesome for the owners but it cant be used as an example cos its a freak.

Obviously i dont see this as the ONLY way to own a racehorse, im sure there is other cheaper way but i just like dynamic and they have been nothing but helpful so far so id like to get on board.

Possibly the real answer to your question is that this is the easiest way, everythings done for you and all you do is sit back and enjoy it, but you know what that sounds pretty flipping good to me , we work hard all week and we deserve something to look forward to.

Dynamic are a rip off. Not sure if other syndicators do it and unless it has changed, you pay for Dean Watt and staff's airline tickets, accommodation, fax, phone calls etc etc for and during the sales.

If your looking for just fun, Shelley Hancox has a nice package of 5 horses with 5 different trainers for a one off fee of $950 which will cover everything for 3 years.

Anyone dealt with her? Seems like a great offer. Whats the catch?

You have to deal with Sally
;)

:p

It does seem like a decent sort of package for first timers. $975 seems pretty good value. The one trained by O'brien seems like a decent sort.

The catch is that you get about 0.002% of prizemoney BUT thats probably a good place to start. Better than dropping $5k straight away . if the missus doesnt come around to this filly then something like shelly handcox is definately worth looking at for a bit o fun.

Haha, so its hard to get your money back?

But yeah i was a bit taken aback when he told me that as well, its the only way we can get into the game and get a decent horse though ya know?. And its not all about the money. We dont mind outlaying the $ as long as we have some fun and if at the end of the year they can give us a cheque all the better. Really we are just dipping our toes in before we take a big leap if ya know what i mean.

I like that attitude that you've got to start somewhere, the only word of warning is make sure that you tell the missus that its a donation.
Don't expect a cent in return, otherwise if she has these misconceptions of grandeur the toe in the water is all that you will ever experience (unless you dump her!!!)

I've lost count of how many I've been involved in, but a return of 'nil' is the attitude you must take when its only yourself let alone informing the other half. I'm just a bit worried by your continual reference to when the cheque comes in. From my experience 5% of those tried will present a cheque, & I consider myself extremely lucky. Anything I've got has been reinvested & is part of the 'turnover' just because I love the experience, & will be involved for the rest of my time.

I know there is many here that do have interest's in different codes & I'm sure they would support my thoughts.

Small steps before a giant leap. :thumbsu:
But be prepared to spend, spend, spend.

Harro just read Bobby Beecroft's post - sums it up perfectly. Just pick a trainer you like - outside the top flight - head to an open day, explain your budget and go from there.

Most of these trainers set up syndicates to race horses just like the syndicators (without anything like the same mark up).

Yep, that is definitely the way to go. Trainers at places like Bendigo etc. are much cheaper than those that train in the city and are just as good as them at training horses.
I know people who have had a small share in horses with Karen Fox at Bendigo and they have been wrapped. They tell me that she is absolutely honest and does not tell owners what owners want to be told eg. that their horse is good when it is legless etc. and she tells them the true cost of owning a horse.
You can't go wrong with honest people.

I was having a look at this site at a lease option and came across one for Philip Starr Bloodline Services.

http://www.galloper.com.au/horses.asp?p=2&CategoryID=6&sort=

It's a 1/20th share in a syndicate for only $95 per month with no upfront outlay. The syndicate has an option to buy the horse after the lease to continue racing or for breeding.

Sounds OK if you want to dip the toes in without a massive hit to the pocket.

I have a share with Dynamic and the difference in the sales price and the syndicated price is the normal mark up that all syndicators do plus expenes for the first few months, big race noms, advertising shares etc.

No complaints at all.

Whats the name of horse if you don't mind sharing?
