I think development coaching is critically important in extracting the best out of young talent and getting an edge.

I'm surprised by this choice. Bombers have been underwhelming in developing young talent over the past 20 years. I can't imagine the failure to bring on so many highly-touted young players has been all about poor selection by Dodoro and poor medical/fitness staff.

As much as Dyson Heppell seems a lovely, laid back guy, his communication skills seem dreadful (see his ads for his gym and his clothing range) and I'd struggle to consider him as an astute thinker in the game based upon any interview that I have seen.

Wish him well, but a surprise selection for mine.

Thoughts from others?

Can't comment on Heppell, just don't know enough about him - I agree this is an essential role for us.

I think he'd be a great addition to the club. Fantastic bloke & Port seem to love him.

Took on the captaincy at Bombers at their lowest after the drug scandal & said to be a great role model & mentor to the younger players during that time.

Club sees something in him so willing to back the club and see how it goes. He seems a solid person (stuck with Dons even after Jab saga) off field too. Willing to back him til he’s considered no good. He might just turn out to be a diamond in the rough too.

Agree.

I don't think Heppell was a great captain either.

Hopefully he has learnt what not to do lol

It’s all about connection and communication as Development Coach - if he’s got that then he’s well on the way. What ever program is implemented will have been evaluated and scrutinized by a number of other Coaches so there’s no risk given his inexperience.
Hence why connection and communication are the pivotal requirements of this role.

Pies have a quality person and mentor in Dyson the youngs kids at the club will love his laid back nature and postive influence he has on people
I'm very happy. Always been one of my favourite non Pie players. Agree, he'll be great for the young players.

I was told about this weeks ago but it’s an interesting one
Given he plays for port Mellb- he’s gonna play against the players he’ll coach 😂
Only for one game though wouldn't it?

And he may opt not to play that match..?

You’d hope not
The contract would need to be very air tight
I'm sure they would have given it plenty of consideration before appointing him.

Port would know he'd also have Intel on them. So it works both ways.

And he’ll get intel he could tell port about our program

Will he have a matchday role? If he has then you’d assume that’d take precedence, if not, doubt it’ll matter too much.
