Yup, the test would be better if they had 3 or 4 players leading in certain directions and they called out a target to kick to on the lead as well as which foot. would be a better judgement of their distance, accuracy and weight of passes by foot. They also don't see where the targets are until they turn around, so it would measure how quickly they can execute said kicks as well.

Heppell's kicking isn't necessarily the most accurate either but it has great distance. This test doesnt test distance.

Disagree, he's very accurate and his depth his good.

The test should be completely disregarded.

The kicking test is far too limited from what I can tell, an above average two sided player will generally outscore an elite kickng one-sided player. The test on its own really has no way of telling the whole story. Drummond, Rich, Ben Johnson, Hurn, Scott Lucas would probably have not done well had they been tested this way, but in a game situation, you feel pretty comfortable with the ball in their hand.

Real game scenarios are the proof in the pudding and Heppell has proven himself there.

On a side note, it's no great secret that this kid is the reason the Lions were so keen to trade up to that top 5 pick.

I agree...although I wouldn't be surprised if he gets selected by the eagles. Either way the lions will get heppell or Gaff...and great win for the lions

BP16 or brown dog who do you rate more?Or are they both very similar? Is Heppell more likely to be a backflanker or a Mid?Too many questions:p

its a hard call...I think heppell will turn out to be a star player, but doesn't fit the lions highest needs straight away. I just love his composure in the backlines and reminds me of Goddard. I think he will be tested early in his career playing against bigger bodies

Gaff will have a season like Daniels Richs 1st at the lions...I think he will make a big impact very early.

So basically I am happy with either. I think the lions will finish bottom 2 next season as our team is now focusing on youth, so I expect us to have a good draft pick next season. But, I think we could draft a Gaff next season if we bottom out...but it will be harder to find a heppell/goddard type. So I am JUST leaning towards Heppell

i dont see it as a certainty that the lions will take heppell, it looks that way, but i would of guessed they just asked for the highest pick GC were willing to give them

Well nothing is a certainty, but some people who generally know are saying Heppell is the one Brisbane are after. We'll know soon enough.

true, i think you would be crazy not to pick him. im glad if we miss out on him that he will be going to the lions or eagles and not the suns, so thats one positive on missing out.

So West Coast not taking him ... I was hearing he was their man?

WCE could certainly still take him. But I imagine Brisbane feel better placed to have a crack at him with 5 than they did with 10.

If West Coast take Heppell, I reckon Brisbane wouldn't be too upset getting Gaff as a consolation prize.

GC could always surprise and take a different top 3, but very unlikely. These 2 would have to go 1 and 2, and we need midfielders of every size and shape, so i dont' think we would mind either way. I think there should still be some quality inside and outside mids in the late 20's, so who we get at 5, might change who we get with the later picks, but again, really we need everything.

Our big lack of pace and ball users means i wouldn't be surprised if Heppell was the one we were most keen on. But as TBD has said, i don't think we would be crying in our beers if we end up with Gaff either.

Wouldn't a lack of pace in your side make you less likely to target Heppell, not more likely? He's quite slow, you know.

We need classy ball winners/users first IMO. The team without the ball always looks slow and winning clarances has been our problem for a while.

Very comfortable taking Heppell with our first pick.

We are so slow you don't need to be 'that' quick to be considered quick for us. He has a bit of step compared to most of our list, and is a great kick. He would certainly help us out. Obviously not going to be a speedy small forward, but he would give us more pace across HB going into the middle. Could also free up Ash to carry the ball a bit more as well.

Not sure if anybody has made the comparisons to this years Norm Smith medalist Part 2, who was also a Power player with a basketball background.

Pendles started out as a winger and like Heppell has great vision and makes quality decisions with ball in hand.

Like Pendles, Heppells upside will be seen when he becomes a full time midfielder, inside and out and will be very damaging.

As much as I like Gaff, Heppell is too damn impressive to pass up.

i agree...If teh eagles take gaff surely the Lions will lock in Heppell. The thing is that the lions will be able to draft a player like smith, polec, caddy & the like next year...but it will be harder to find a heppell. The lions need to come out of the next 3 drafts very well for the future. I just think they need either gaff or Heppell, so what ever the eagles don't take
