Welcome to Round 3 of the BigFooty 2020 e-AFL season! With the real season delayed, we will be recreating the AFL season in simulation. 153 games plus a finals series over the next few months.
The simulated games will use the names of AFL players, but all teams have an equal chance. The sim program also distributes Brownlow votes, so we will also have our own e-AFL Brownlow, Coleman and Norm Smith awards.
We are in Round 3, so how have these teams performed thus far?
It has undoubtedly been a disappointing season thus for the e-AFL team, who are trying to recover from the heartbreaking Grand Final loss last year. They sit at 0-2 and at the bottom of the ladder, with their matches characterised by slow starts; going 26 points behind to the Bombers and 40 points behind to the Hawks in the first quarters of their matches. These resulted in losses of 81-61 and 161-93 respectively.
Adelaide were flying high at the top of the ladder after their thrashing of Freemantle 107-52 in Round 1, never losing the lead. However they were brought back to earth by the reigning AFL premiers, losing to the Tigers 125-81 after being 4 goals clear at the main break. They therefore sit midtable at 1-1, just inside the 8 in 8th place.
ONES TO WATCH
GWSHeath Shaw - coming back after being rested in Round 1, Heater is thriving in his new Half Back role. 24 touches and 11 marks against the Hawks shows a confident man who can take the ball out of defence
Jake Riccardi - The Fothergill-Round-Mitchell winner as the best young player in the VFL, Jake has been rumoured to be tearing it up on the track. He is well regarded by the coach and with 2 away matches to come for the Giants, this might be his big stage for a debut.
ADELAIDE
Paul Seedsman - with the goals being spread around the team, a midfield enforcer is needed to break up the opponents' play. With a team-high 6 tackles in Round 1 and 7 tackles in Round 2, Paul is performing a fantastic job.
Lachlan Murphy - after 5 goals from 6 touches in Round 1, Lachie went goalless in Round 2. However he still contributed with 15 touches and 7 marks in Round 2. Fans will be hoping he will be able to combine the two to get back to winning ways.
