Competitions Simulated AFL season - Adelaide team thread - Round 6 vs Demons - help me pick the side

Hi all, haydo here

With the unfortunate but necessary postponement of the AFL season for at least 60 days, it's been decided that we will run a simulated AFL season using the Qooty program created by the legendary Mobbs.

If you are familiar with the Sweet FA, which has had a few Tour games here, then you will know what this program is. If not, then please have a gander at the thread posted on the main board by SFA league Admin Ant Bear:

https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/afl-season-to-be-rebooted-in-simulation.1237892/

Our first match is against the Dockers and you can find the match thread here

https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/thre...ntle-at-adelaide-oval-sunday-29-3-20.1238052/

As a tl;dr, Qooty is a completely random football simulator. What we are going to do is use real player names and simulate the 17 round AFL season.
Each week there will be 2 rounds, complete with match threads for banter against opposition fans. At this stage it seems these threads will just be in the main board but that may change. At the end, there will be a Brownlow Medallist and Coleman Medallist as well as a Norm Smith medallist.

I have volunteered to be the coach of the Crows side. All this means is that I will be the one submitting our team sheet for each round, but I will be looking to you all to help me out with what changes we think need to be made or should be made.

For round 1 we will just use the named teams (minus two from the bench, as Qooty only needs 20 players) from round 1.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Let's try and bring some of the excitement that footy would normally bring in this troubling time. It's all intended as a bit of fun, some competition to keep us upbeat and afloat in trying times.

Adelaide Crows first game is against Fremantle, due to be posted on Sunday

Did you really name Walker on the wing and Kelly in the guts?

Round 1 vs Fremantle Dockers

Round 1 of the simulated AFL season got underway on the main board of Bigfooty this evening with the Crows taking on the Dockers at Adelaide Oval, in what was a one-sided affair which saw the Crows run out 55 point winners to take a W in their first outing of S2020.
The Crows named a young side after a off-season which seen them offload plenty of experience in Eddie Betts, Richard Douglas, Andy Otten and Sam Jacobs and with a new coach haydo at the helm, it was always going to be a what if with the Crows squad this season.

Lachlan Murphy starred in the Crows 55 point victory kicking a career high 5 goals while inexperienced big man Riley OBrien kicked 3 (yeah, I know right, how unrealistic :p )
Tom Lynch opened the Crows scoring for the new season 3 minutes into the opening term and the question of whether the Crows could kick a high enough score after the departures of Josh Jenkins and Eddie Betts to other clubs was answered with the team kicking 16.11 in their first encounter.

Jake Kelly was busy playing more up the field with 21 disposals, Paul Seedsman was solid on the wing and off half back with 19 disposals, 7 marks and a goal and ruckmen Riley OBrien who probably sees himself with the 3 Brownlow votes for this contest finished with 15 hitouts, 19 disposals, 5 tackles and 3.2 in a all-round performance for the big guy.

The Crows will then take on reigning premiers Richmond at Adelaide Oval in round 2 which should kick off on April 1st

My advice would be don't sit and watch to much telly or commercial radio or read much newspaper, apart from listening to what directions Steven marshal gives us.

Don't get caught up in how he's trying to sell it, just understand what he wants us to do. Do it.

Unless directly over ruled federally, listen to him and listen to what he says when we are over ruled.

Remember it was he who fired the fatal blow to Tony Abbott, with brutal honesty about federal policy

Round 2 vs Richmond Tigers

The Crows were on a high after their big win in round 1 against the Dockers at home at Adelaide Oval. Round 2 came around quickly at the Crows side would have to back up the performance against the Dockers to have any shot at knocking off the reigning premiers, unfortunately it wasn't meant to be. Just like it was in the 2017 Grand Final, the Crows took a lead into the quarter time and half time breaks for the Tigers to bounce back and run out eventual winners by 44 points to give the Crows their first loss of S20.

The Crows kicked 3 goals in the 2nd half of the match while their opposition scored 14 goals to out run and out score the home side including 5 unanswered goals to the Tigers to end the 3rd quarter. After the match, Crows captain Rory Sloane expressed his disappointment knowing the work they put in to nullify the Tigers forward half went the exact same way as that dreadful day in September in 2017. "Unfortunately we couldn't get the job done today, we played into their hands in the 2nd half and with a young group we're expecting to see a few fade outs. We'll learn from today and come out better in the next match" Sloane said.

The Crows were best served by midfielder Paul Seedsman who had team high 25 disposals and 7 tackles but would have been disappointed in himself hitting the scoreboard 3 times for 3 behinds. Half back flanker Rory Laird finished the match with 18 disposals and even had a run in the RUCK, yes that's right, I said in the RUCK and had 11 hitouts to his name. 2nd year player Chayce Jones was the other Crow who could hold his head high with 18 disposals and a goal to keep putting his hand up to being picked each week under this new Crows outfit.

Up forward Darcy Fogarty was the focal point and finished with a creditable 3 goals next to his name but only had the 4 disposals to end the contest. Tom Lynch also kicked 3 whilst playing up forward but was moved down back in the 3rd term once the Tigers got a roll on with those unanswered goals. Midfielder Rory Atkins kicked 2 and was the only other multiple goal scorer for the Crows.

For the Tigers, Dion Prestia dominated with 32 disposals, 22 of those handballs while Josh Caddy had 23 disposals and a goal. Up front Tom Lynch kicked 4 goals while Sydney Stack and big man Toby Nankervis booted 3.

Adelaide: 4.0 - 9.5 - 10.7 - 12.9 - (81)
Richmond - 3.5 - 5.5 - 11.9 - 19.11 - (125)
