Halo has lost a lot of steam since the start of this Gen.
Cod has taken over it and its with a different studio.

Resistance 3 will be the last major Sony exclusive and GeOW 3 will be the last as i think Epic have a 3 game contract with MS.

So will Halo 5 and 6 be on 360?
WTF are you talking about?

It all comes down to IP holders.

As Jordz said, MS hold the IP rights to Halo, so that isn't going anywhere.

Sony hold the IP rights to Resistance and Ratchet and Clank so if Insomniac want to keep them going then they have to develop them exclusively for the PS3. That is likely to continue in some way or another as Insomniac have enough studios to do so (developing 2 PS3 exclusives right now and 1 multiplat). Don't know what you mean by Resistance 3 being the last major exclusive for Sony though?

Epic is likely to discontinue Gears of War, not 100% sure on the IP holders there. But if it is MS, then I'd fully expect them to continue with it, it's a sales juggernaut in the US.

God, that has to be the worst console announcement I have ever seen.

Did they just say "Hey, maybe we should just tack on the announcement of our new console towards the end there?"

"Oh Ok, I guess. Just remember to give enough time to the Pokedex and montage of old Zelda games."

If the conference was all you had heard, you might think that all Nintendo is releasing is an updated controller with a screen. We saw very little of the actual console during the conference.

Listening to an interview with Reggie who is just harping on about how the console is 1080p, which should be expected, so there's no need to say it. Well, yes, Reggie - when your console has been lagging well behind the others for the last 5 years in terms of graphics, you do need to say it.

They spent so much time on the 3DS and other crap, it just seemed like their new console, which they should have been parading was an afterthought. Did they actually want to show it?

E3 has been pretty shitty overall this year. Sony surprised with the price of their handheld and the Wii U does look like it could be good, they just botched the conference badly, but nothing else has really stood out, just the same games we knew were coming.

Also, there are some franchises I love but are getting tiresome really fast. Nintendo haven't made a decent new IP in...a long time. How many times can you re-do Mario Kart? They just keep on touting the same looking Mario and Zelda games - sure, they're great franchises and have produced great games, it's just getting old.

The competitors aren't much better though. It feels like we just had Forza 3, now we're getting Forza 4? Another Halo and Fable? They're just cashing in on Halo now, but after 5 titles, with Reach last year and Bungie not doing it anymore, can't they shelve the franchise for a little while? Fable started out well with the first game, but just keeps getting worse. I don't know why they bother - they keep promising things which never eventuate as the series further descends into mediocrity.

Sony are doing the same thing with Resistance and Uncharted (though, I think you can give them a break on this considering how good the games have been).

It would be nice to see one of the companies put some effort behind showing off something new. Seems like all the new IP's that get shown these days are soon forgotten about and disappear or don't turn out well.

I worry about it for MS, more so than Sony, as the PS3 has had some good recently established franchises, but what was Microsofts last good fresh IP? They seem to have been riding the Halo, GOW, Fable and Forza wagon since the beginning of this generation.
If you can give Sony a break by saying how good Uncharted and Resistance surely Halo can be as well? I mean FFS

Resistance, LBP, Modnation, Uncharted, Killzone are all getting rehashed.

It must suck to be Media Molecule, all they do is yearly rehashes (LittleBigPlanet). We're up to version 4 now LOL, it's COD all over again.

I've heard word that one of the "Super Surprise Sequels" tomorrow is Star Wars: Battlefront 3.
It's seem more just a hope then a solid rumor, but hey, we can all hope for it.
There is two of these super surprise sequels, but apparently Valve aren't even there, so it's not HL ep3.
if it does turn out to be BF3 though.... best game ever.

A follow up rumor to this is; if it isn't announced at E3, then it will be announced at Comic-Con.

Rumors say it is being made by Spark Unlimited (Legendary, Turning Point: FoL, CoD: Finest Hour) and they have a countdown on their home page for Comic-Con.

Just watched the Nintendo reveal, so basicly they have upgraded there console to run HD and vurtualy added an ipad?
Anyone with kids here feel comfortable with them running around with that thing?

I have a console that runs HD and have enough tv's to play in another room if i want, so i think i'll pass.
Will also be interesting what price it is when it hits the market.

Nintendo had an opportunity to grab the industry by the balls and squeeze the living shit out of it, but they just dont do that with this imo, they will still sell consoles but **** me they could of really made a dent into some hardcore gamers but missed the chance.

Oh, I phrased that poorly. I was referring to Uncharted being excused, not Resistance. Resistance is worse than Halo in that it's a generic FPS that is now coming up to its third iteration of the generation.

PS3: Resistance 1, 2, 3.
PSP: Resistance: Retribution, Resistance PSV.

5 games in 5 years. COD.

No real first party new games. Seems they've just opened up to the 3rd party market and online

I reckon they will have some first party games in there, just not been announced which yet. Could be a Mario, like Mario 64 when the 64 launched

If not, it seems they've gone from 1 extreme to the other.

People forget so fast about the Gamecube.

"It's Nintendo, it'll sell"...wonder if they're thinking the same. Did nobody read about the 3DS doing worse than the PSP?

The 3DS would've sold a shitload more if they had 1 first party big name to launch it with. There was no Mario, Zelda (insert any big Ninty franchise) etc to go with it. This was their mistake. But it will go nuts come June 30

People will go and buy a 3DS just to play Zelda. Its a given. They will do the same at Xmas when Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Resident Evil, MGS come out. The 3DS will be pulling huge numbers soon enough

Agreed.

If they kept it simple and came out with a HD console, and showed some footage from a Mario HD, Smash Bros HD, DK HD or Zelda HD, it would go ballistic

It still might, but its not a guarantee like it could have been

It is an entirely new console and it will be more powerful than the PS3 and 360 (as it should be considering that's 6 year old tech).

The allure is going to be that we will finally get a chance to see franchises like Metroid, Mario, Zelda etc. in HD with highly detailed graphics, surpassing what the PS3 or 360 could produce.

Your point about attracting the hardcore gamers is valid though - they're announcing multiplat games coming to the console, but this will be a year after they've been released on the 360 and PS3, so you wonder what will be the point? Even if they look better on the Wii U, I doubt any gamers will be switching to it for the slight upgrade - anyone who cares that much would just play the games on a high end PC.

Would be interesting to hear if the BF3 announcement is made. This game was in development a while ago but they scrapped the game....

I am still spewing Free Radical died (pretty much anyway) - along with BF3, Timesplitters 4 was the other casualty. :(

Please Crytek, let one of the super surprise sequels be Timesplitters 4. :thumbsu:

You going to get PS Vita Hutch?
Nope, no need for a handheld.
PS3: Resistance 1, 2, 3.
PSP: Resistance: Retribution, Resistance PSV.

5 games in 5 years. COD.
Completely different situations.

If you want to talk iterations of titles, then COD itself would be up to about 20 on the various consoles going around...

That said, Insomniac will have bought out 7 games this generation by the end of the year, all of their own doing.

It's also been 3 years since the last Resistance by Insomniac, hardly yearly iterations going on.

Yeah I know that, one of the reasons the GC failed was parents couldn't buy cheap games for it like the PS2 were you could get burnt games for next to nothing. The GC also had a shitty line up of 3rd party games.

Just look at the PS3. 50 million sold and Sony still arn't making money yet.
Using the ps3 price model to compare to the ps2? Look at the hardware of both and come back with a serious face and tell us that

No console has ever made money after the first 8 months, as soon as a new console hits the market they usually sell them at a loss no doubt, however 150 million sold consoles and counting, if they have sold 3 games per console they have made their money back, hell i couldnt give ashit about console gaming, but hell i've got one and have about 6-8 games

Mario 3D is making me want a 3DS.

Battlefront 3 is making me want a new bloody computer.

I quite like the Wii U (well, any Nintendo console I will love) and don't understand how people think they ****ed up the announcement.

For a new console announcement, you would expect them to spend a large portion of the conference talking about it, explaining clearly what it was, what it offered and what games would be available for it.

We have found out a lot of this info later, but they gave us very little at the press conference. They had a big advert talking about the 'new controller'. Someone could see that and think they were just making another peripheral for the Wii and calling it Wii U.

Understandable if Nintendo had a heap of other announcements that demanded attention at this E3, but they spent a good portion on Zelda without actually showing anything new, talked about the 3DS, which is bombing and then rambled about the PokeDex - a lot of this is the stuff they could have saved for after the conference, rather than the Wii U stuff.

If it was Sony or MS, they would go all out announcing their new console - a couple of years ago, MS extended theirs just to announce Natal and the year after, nearly the entirety of their conference was spent on Kinect.

The Wii U looks promising, but I think the hype from Nintendo has been lackluster. The only reason I could see for this is that they still want people buying the Wii and software for the next year and won't push the new console hard until this time next year.

Still, some of the stuff that has come out after the conference, like the tech demos have looked really good and would have gone over well with people at the main presentation.

At the press conference, did they even show a shot of the console? Seemed like it was all about the controller. May have had a fleeting glance in the video about the controller, but that was it.
