Nope, no need for a handheld.

Why not? I need an online buddy.

It's also been 3 years since the last Resistance by Insomniac, hardly yearly iterations going on.

Doesn't matter who the dev is, COD has two devs (four now after MW3 lol).

For a new console announcement, you would expect them to spend a large portion of the conference talking about it, explaining clearly what it was, what it offered and what games would be available for it.

We have found out a lot of this info later, but they gave us very little at the press conference. They had a big advert talking about the 'new controller'. Someone could see that and think they were just making another peripheral for the Wii and calling it Wii U.

Understandable if Nintendo had a heap of other announcements that demanded attention at this E3, but they spent a good portion on Zelda without actually showing anything new, talked about the 3DS, which is bombing and then rambled about the PokeDex - a lot of this is the stuff they could have saved for after the conference, rather than the Wii U stuff.

If it was Sony or MS, they would go all out announcing their new console - a couple of years ago, MS extended theirs just to announce Natal and the year after, nearly the entirety of their conference was spent on Kinect.

The Wii U looks promising, but I think the hype from Nintendo has been lackluster. The only reason I could see for this is that they still want people buying the Wii and software for the next year and won't push the new console hard until this time next year.

Still, some of the stuff that has come out after the conference, like the tech demos have looked really good and would have gone over well with people at the main presentation.

At the press conference, did they even show a shot of the console? Seemed like it was all about the controller. May have had a fleeting glance in the video about the controller, but that was it.

It may not be released until after E3 2012, and even then there is there's GDC between it. I said before the show don't be surprised if Nintendo don't show much, they showed even less when they announced the Wii (or Revolution). Nintendo very consistently do not give out technical details on what's under the hood in these kinds of announcements. They just don't do it.

I have a DS, played it all of 5 times and have 2 games for it. I just don't have the time or care or situation to play these games. Never am I in a place that I think I need a portable device. Would rather spend the $350 on upgrading to a PC or some such...

It odesn't matter who the dev is, but it's the oversaturation to the one specific market and platform.

Handheld is completely different to a home console.

Thus:
Resistance = 3 titles over 6 years (R1 was in 2006).
COD = 5-6 titles over 5-6 years.
Halo = 6 titles over 5-6 years. 3 titles in the space of 2 years.

These are taking into account the one single platform and same marketed platform. You at the very least have to go out and purchase another system or two in order to play those other 2 Resistances.

We could call Mario a COD if we were talking about saturation over various platforms.

At least Mario switches it up, and is built on a foundation of great gameplay. These days CoD is seriously a lazy disgrace of a series. I'm at the point where I feel guilty for buying them, because I don't want to encourage these arseholes.

...but I buy most games. With Skyrim, The Old Republic, Diablo 3 and BF3 coming up in the CoD release date this year however, I can guarantee I won't be touching that shit with a fifty foot pole. People need to start punishing them for their archaic engine and shitty business practices or they will never learn.

Good in theory, won't happen though and if people do stop buying it will be slow. Unfortunately the target audience will still eat it up.

I'm not going to judge MW3 until I see Mp info though.

But how will people have time for this when it's released so close to SKYRIM!

Very liberal with your dates there HBK. Resistance 1 was launched in the US and Japan in late 06 (November) and saw its way into Europe (and Aus) in March 07.

So really its 3 games in 4 years. Nearly 1 a year

How will anyone have time for everything?

October 19: Batman: AC
October 25: BF3
November 1: Unchartered 3
November 8: MW3
November 11: Skyrim
November 15: AC: Revelations

I know i posted this a few pages back, but that is an INSANE amount of AAA titles in such a small window

Not liberal at all.

Resistance was released in 2006 as a finished product by the developers, due to a console delay it was in 2007 that it hit Aus.

In 2008, 2 years after Resistance 1 was finished, released Resistance 2. Now this year, 3 years after R2, will be Resistance 3.

I was inclusive of the full years, cut it back to 5 if you want, 3 in 5 then...? Not even close to 3 in 4 years.

I used the Halo Reach, CE Remake and Halo 4 in 2 years as an example of how crammed the Halo series releases will be in that period after detailing the series releases over it's time this gen.

Ok its 5 years, but not the 6 that you claimed

the PS3 has yet to turn 5, so its impossible for there to be a 6 year gap :)

I remember there being an insane period for PS3 a few years back - don't think it was quite as good though, but I remember buying about 5 games in a month. Wont be doing that again. Think I'll just get Uncharted, hopefully complete that in 10 days, then Skyrim will hopefully take up my time for next few months. :thumbsu:

Yeah just checked it out, late 2008 for PS3 was what I were thinking of - I bought a couple more than 5 too :o (blue I bought on release, brown I bought later when cheaper, black I have on PC bought cheap much later), but yeah, I'd still rate this year higher being all AAAs.

**** ME DEAD!

I'd probably buy all of them except MW3 (will wait and see) and AC Revelations. I would probably buy ACR if I had played any of the earlier ones.

Football Manager 2012 ill probably also be out around November. Also FIFA 12 is out Sep 30 (not quite sure on this game, always get sucked in by FIFA only to find out how overrated it is and still inferior to PES 5).

Great way to celebrate after Collingwood win the 2011 premiership!

At least we get a bit of time to finish Batman AC before Uncharted 3 comes out. Then a bit of time to spend with that until Skryim comes out.

As I said it was being inclusive of the full years, probably not the best way to do it, but easier than saying 5.5, 5.75 or something of the like.

I was going 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 which would be 6 years all inclusive.

Happy with 5 regardless.;)

RAGE, id Softwares newest FPS has also been pushed to October, so there's another potential AAA title.

Also, please let this be true oh gaming god!

Mirror's Edge 2 is still in the works, and will more than likely use the Frosbite 2 engine, according to EA Games President Frank Gibeau.

Gibeau told Gametrailers Geoff Keighley, "We love that franchise. The DICE guys really created something special the first time around. You've got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one, and that's what we're working on."

When Keighley suggested that it might use Frosbite 2, Gibeau replied, "You'll see that combination, I'm sure."

If Mirrors Edge 2 comes out, I hope it's PC exclusive. Some of the best graphics I've ever seen on PC.
Why? Not that it will be anyway...

What the hell happened to Ghost Recon?

Last year at E3 the showing of Ghost Recon was very impressive. Obviously since then we've had a delay and they've spent more time working on the game.

But from what I've seen of the title, it's gone VERY far backwards!

From bland, 2 year old looking graphics, to gameplay that just looks dull, boring and repetitive.

Very surprised at how crap the game is looking now compared to last year.
