Coventry for Collingwood, Tredrea for Port, Bartlett for Richmond.

I'd be inserting Haydn Bunton at Fitzroy. I'd go for John Nicholls at Carlton, and I'd be putting Ian Stewart in at St Kilda, who just barely shades Darrel Baldock. Don't know anything about GWS to have an opinion.

I'd have Shaun Burgoyne instead of Wanganeen, agree with everything else - great list.
Shaun Burgoyne is one hell of a player, it's actually a really hard decision when it comes to Port- Thanks buddy!
Burgoyne is indeed still one hell of a player, but what he's done in recent years with Hawthorn surely doesn't come into consideration here. Warren Tredrea won 4 B&F's at Port and was an AA player 4 times. Gavin Wanganeen won 1 B&F at Port and was an AA player 2 times while at the club. He's probably the only serious rival but I'd say Tredrea wins very comfortably. Kane Cornes won plenty of awards but I don't think many people would consider him to be in the Tredrea or Wanganeen class.

Burgoyne has never won a B&F (at any club) but was an AA player at Port in 2006 (his only selection ever).

Very true, he was good at Port but not as good as some of his teammates, both the Cornes brothers, Tredrea and Wanganeen especially, his brother Peter was pretty good too. Port Adelaide from 01-04 was a pretty bloody good side and were unlucky to only win 1 premiership in that time.

I would argue they were very fortunate to have got the Lions at the end of their dominance. Never good enough to come close to beating them prior to that with an averaging losing margin of 44 points in finals.

It took a bogus AFL decision to make the Lions play their home final (one they were fully entitled too) at the MCG which meant they had to travel back to Queensland during the week, fly back out to Melbourne again a few days later for the grand final against Port Adelaide who were not jet lagged.

Jeez, didn't even know that, bit rough on Brisbane's behalf, that explains their drop off in the second half.
.

I assume you guys are only considering Port's AFL history, otherwise it would have to be someone like Russell Ebert.
Yep Russell Ebert is the clear choice for Port.

Barry Davis is a hugely significant figure in Essendon history without any doubt, but you could not have him ahead of any of T. Watson, T. Daniher, Madden, Hird, and likely Lloyd or Fletcher too, even if you were drawing the line at the last fifty years.

Surely Coleman is atop of the tree.
12 goals on debut. A century in his first season. On track for the most goals ever in his career but suffers a career ending knee injury and is finished at 25 years of age.

Only played 98 games but booted 540 goals.
Built like Brett 'birdman' Burton and had the same kind of hops. Rumored to have had it all. Decades ahead of his time.

I'm guessing there were players like Hudson and there were players like Coleman. Those that used their smarts to become as good as they could be and then there were those who used their athleticism to become as good as they could possibly be.
The type of player who altered the game forever in order to prevent such weekly dominance.

For sure. I was just saying in a playing sense since the 1960s, as per Goggin's post.

Sorry ..can only be Bunton at Fitzroy, not only 3 Brownlows, but three Sandovers,no other player anywhere approaches his record, and it was truncated by the war.

I said post 1968.

If I was going to do the list since foundation then it would be Hadyn Bunton (although could mount an argument for Kevin Murray), Collingwood would probably be Coventry, Essendon Dick Reynolds, Richmond Jack Dyer, Sydney/South Bob Skilton, Footscray Ted Whitten, but I chose to do post 1968 so it would involve players that there is at least a number of us who saw them.

Dick Reynolds if Essendon went back over their history. Coleman is like Peter Hudson at Hawthorn, Hudson would've broken all the records had he not done his knee also. So you go one what happened over a career and three Brownlow's says a fair bit.

I agree with most of your choices. My differents in bold.

Pretty good choices. West Coast was really hard for me, the main reason I went for Matera was loyalty and obviously was no where near as controversial as Cousins was, that said however Cousins as a player is probably one of the better midfielders to ever play the game. If he hadn't have had such a negative impact on his club (despite the obvious premiership) he probably would have a spot in my list.

I think your underselling Barry Davis a bit - he was a sensational player ( would be perfect for today with his skills and athleticism ) - on a hbf - he was a quicker and more skilfull version of Bluey McKenna - about 40% better than McKenna . Dual premiership player at Essendon in the 60s - then went to Nth Melb as captain - he would have been over 30 - played as a ruck rover and he was superb . That prelim final out at Waverley against Richmond ( which i went to ) he was easily best on the ground

Ithink he has got T Daniher covered - TD was a very good player - but he wasnt quick - and wasnt a textbook kick - BD was a beautiful kick - and could kick 60 metre drop kicks no problem . I saw Malarkey play on TD a bit and he allways kept him in check . Lloyd got a great record - but he was a specialist one position player- BD was a better allround footballer in my opinion

With TD and ML - if Leon Baker had played 200 games for Ess ( to the quality of the ones he actually played ) id rate him higher than those 2

As for the others you have listed - you can toss a coin - they were all great players
