Moving past our current premiership window and looking at the next one, I was wondering how people saw our future 2015-2017 team stacking up.

I had a quick look through the younger half of our current list and saw a pretty damn good team if they develop as planned. If we can keep all the young guys together, then this surely has all the makings of a premiership team as our current young guys start hitting their prime years. I made a quick team off the players on our current list:

B: S. Hurn E. Mackenzie B. Wilson
HB: J. Brennan M. Brown W. Schofield
C: A. Gaff S. Selwood M. Rosa
HF: F. McInnes S. Lycett J. Darling
F: M. Newman J. Kennedy M. LeCras

R: N. Naitanui L. Shuey C. Masten
IC: K. Stevens B. Sheppard/L. Stevenson
B. Waters M. Priddis/anyone else.

The future is not looking too bad, though I'd still love us to win a premiership with the older guys in it. There were a few players who were a bit touch and go, like Adam Selwood, Lynch, Kerr and Butler who could make the team, but could retire or be moved on in the next couple of years.

What do you guys think?

To make it easy i made my team 85 born onwards or 27 and Unders. That means all players would be 30 or less come 2015.

FB: Waters Mackenzie Smith
HB: Hurn Brown Schofield
C: Gaff Priddis Rosa
HF: Newman Darling Masten
FF:Lecras Kennedy Hill
RR: NN Shuey Scooter

Int:Lycett Sheppard Stevens Mcinnes

Looking at this brown is my biggest concern. Would like another high quality KPD on our list. Green are who i consider just about locks.
Delisted: Chose 9 weakest for 3 a year. Was hard to do :(
Hams
dalziell
Strijk
Swift
Neates
Wilson
Stevenson
Brennan
Weedon

List/depth still around
Butler
Mcginnity

B: Butler EMac Schofield
HB: Hurn Brown Smith
C: Rosa Masten Gaff
HF: Darling Kennedy Waters
FF: LeCras Lycett Newman
R: NicNat Shuey Scooter
I/C: McInnes Sheppard McGinnity Swift

WE are gonna get alot of new players by then probably get another gem again, our current youth is going to set us up for a long time yet ad a few more young guns and we will have a good mix of experience and youth.

A conservative team made up of guys born no earlier than 1985:

B: Brennan Schofield Waters
HB: Hurn Mackenzie Sheppard
C: Smith Shuey Newman
HF: Masten Kennedy McGinnity
F: LeCras Darling Hill
R: Naitanui Selwood Gaff
INT: Rosa Priddis Butler Lycett

Biggest questions going forward are whether we have the depth in midfield and the cover in key defensive posts. From that point-of-view, Stevens, Swift and Brown become important. On the tier down, what are we going to get out of Weedon and Stevenson? If they can't cut it, we need to keep drafting for depth in those spots. I know we've got McInnes coming through as well but, like I said, I'm trying to be conservative rather than assuming he will be able to hold down a KP at 22.

I think we did this in 2008 for a 2012 team and none of it occured cause half the buggers stuck around and got good :D

I possibly think your generous on McGinnity/Brennan/Butler. Thats also the more traditional 2 man tall and 2 tall backman than we have run of late with 3 of each.

Smith would want to extract a digit. Has the skills and the natural attributes to be a great player but still looks like he cant be bothered half the time. Maybe its a niggling injury issue atm? Even watching him in WAFL this weekend, he went about it a similar way.

Doubt Gaff will ever play IM. His frame will forever be too slight and it will only disrupt his biggest asset in his endurance.

A shot that I would take based on what I would think may occur

B: B Wilson Mackenzie Brown
HB: Hurn Schofield Waters
C: Gaff Shuey Rosa
HF: Sheppard Kennedy Newman
F: LeCras McInnes Darling
R: Naitanui Selwood Masten
INT: Priddis Stevens Hill Lycett

FB: Waters Emac Schofield
HB: Hurn Brown Smith
C: Gaff Masten Rosa
HF: Newman McInnes Darling
FF: Lecras Kennedy Hill
R: Naitanui Selwood Shuey

INT: from Priddis Brennan Stevens Swift Sheppard Dick McGinnity Lycett Butler Hams Wilson Stevenson

Our midfield won't win us a flag, it will be our Elite defence and forward line that will - unless we draft or trade in or develop a couple of top 10 Midfielders.

Yeah 2015 is a bit much, why not 2014, two years.
Because every year we have new players come in like a 18 year old Jack Darling.

I would also say at this point Steven, Swift, M Brown and a few more are potential will ask to move because its not working out for them.

The one thing I will say is. we have a gun forward line for the next 5 years.
And Midfield looks alright, Still need a few more just in case some fall behind.
Masten, Gaff, Sheuy. Selwood.

I don't think it's overly generous to suggest these guys could still be in the mix.

I reckon Brennan looks a useful player and, although McGinnity has his knockers, I like the hardness that he brings to the table. He could still turn into our preferred defensive midfielder. Butler could go either way, I guess – it's speculative but I don't think it's out of the question that he could still be going at age 29.

You've got Mitch Brown in a BP. If he's not holding down a KP, is he really worth his spot?

Reckon Smith is deliberately being played out of position to build a defensive side. I reckon if he was just allowed to play on a wing and play attacking footy, we'd be more convinced. He's quick, good overhead and a thumping kick – you don't discard a guy like that lightly.

Doubt Gaff will ever play IM. His frame will forever be too slight and it will only disrupt his biggest asset in his endurance.
Too early to say that. He's 20 years old. He could develop along the same lines as someone like Marc Murphy, who was also pretty slight at the same age.

The fact is, if Gaff is to become an elite midfielder, he's going to have to develop another string to his bow. He can't just run and run – he's going to have to find his own footy and do some of his work in traffic. Don't know why you'd be so quick to draw a line through that possibility.

Why aren't we drafting anyone between now and 2015?
The experiment is to look at what we've got already, which then allows us to pinpoint the areas we need to bolster through the draft.

For mine, we're a key defender light and we need to keep bringing new midfielders through.

This. I just hope Kennedy's injury woes end right now. Bit concerned about his return.
McInnes and Lycett are both quite raw. Watched Fraser on the weekend. He comes across as a bit sooky/emotional, but i don't mind that too much. Needs to work on his endurance and body work.

Lycett will take another year or two but obvious potential there too. God, not many teams have two 196+ KPFs developing along nicely in the 2s.

FWIW, I think 2013 - 2014 is our prime premiership window. Injecting LeCras and Kennedy into a side with better depth than last year (ie. Hill, Brennan, and Sheppard's improvement), whilst Glass, Cox and Kerr remain in the side is going to make us 2 positions on the ladder stronger than 2012.

Nah I do agree they could potentially be in the team. Its just I believe we have better options who either better players or work harder.

I like McGinnity. Brennan is okay but still isnt really special at anything. I think Butler has the most potential to keep a position however that is mostly dependant on his injuries. I think none have the ability to play tall if neccessary and this may hold them back. As for Brown, he would be the CHB with Schofield playing 3rd. I just didnt swap them :D

Smith's attributes I love. Quick, reasonably strong and able to play tall. Doesn't get involved enough though, appears to jog at times he needs to sprint, and tends to bomb it long rather than aim it at anyone in particular. I do expect him to get better at this though.

I don't see the need for Gaff playing centre square. We have plenty of players who can play that and are far quicker over the first few metres, or strong enough to hold themselves up which is required. Priddis, Kerr, Masten, Shuey, S Selwood. He will probably never take over any of these blokes getting a clearance. Whats wrong with his playing a wing like he does anyway.

Like who?

Is this a real criticism? He's played five games.

Brown is OK but still isn't really special at anything. How does that work for you?

Do we really have plenty of centre square midfielders?

Kerr will be retired and Priddis will be in the twilight of his career. I would have thought that a fair bit depends on Gaff becoming a more complete on-baller. If he remains exclusively outside then I would be disappointed.

Why aren't we drafting anyone between now and 2015?
Actually in an amazing coincidence, we only draft players with the same surnames as existing players, and to not confuse our older supporters, we only play one at a time.

John Stevens and Daniel Swift are guns.
