Lynyrd Skynyrd seriously rock, the guitar work with all their guitarrists is just awesome, there's a lot of depth behind Alabama and Freebird but no-one's heard of the songs really. Thats why I guess theres a perceived notion of falling away sharply. Not to mention southern music isn't really popular anymore.
I've heard enough of their stuff to know it falls away sharpish. At the end of the day if they had anything good we'd know about it. Eagles have a whole heap of hits (like them or loathe them) that the average Joe can reel off whilst LS have just the one.

Over-rated pap.

Sickeningly sugary talentless bunch of session musos. So middle of the road it's a shame they've never been run over.

I HATE them. (Can you tell?)
Joe Walsh is hardly talentless. Exceptional guitarist.

I also think that the Eagles are overrated (although, still a very important and influential band), but a far more overrated one is Aerosmith. They made a song with RunDMC, and then that one with Armageddon, but what else of any real significance? They are talked about as if they're rock royalty, but they haven't actually done anything.

Without trying to appear to be a smartarse, how old are u (ish)

Aerosmith have been around since the late 60s.

Sounds like u came in late 80s.

They have a catalogue of rock tunes.

Eminem sampled the start of "Dream On" for one of his last singles.

Songs that had an impact early are Back In Th Saddle,Dream On,Sweet Emotion .

The Pump Album was more a second coming of the Band that had died yet still remained alive.

How can u not respect the folklore of "The Toxic Twins"?

Yep, born 1987. But that's the thing, my dad loves them, so I listened to a few of his vinyls, and so many of them are terrible. There is the odd good song, but nothing that could justify their reputation. And I generally love older rock.

EDIT: Also, if you want to convince me that a band is good, don't bring up Eminem! ;)

LOL.

Whitesnake named their album after the year of your birth.

I think you'll come around with age mate.

When I was your age I hated The Stones and thought that Eddie Van Halen would never be surpassed as guitar supreme wizard.

Now I listen to the Stones and although am not a big fan can say I can see their appeal.

The older u get the less honest mucic seems to become and you inevitably have no choice but to appreciate the classics.
They're classics for a reason, even though you aint feelin' it yet.

Some of those early Aero recordings are ruff as dogs guts probably due to the fact that we are tlking bout a band who came on stage one night, began the set with what usually was their last song and walked off after they finished it.
It's amazing they are all still alive - seriously.

I probably didnt gey into them until about 1987 ironically.

It took me years to work out where they had come from and who they really were but worth the research.

Now run along and rock young man.

Any group that's still going strong 30 years after their prime, and individual members of the band went on to have successful careers of their own, must have been doing something right.

To say you don't like them, i can appreciate that - but saying they're overrated is different when they rate so highly with a lot of people.

Like all music, each to their own.

I'm not that keen on these "over rated" threads. Why? Because the starting point is always different depending on each person's perception of how that person/band/player etc is rated in the first place.

I think it should just be a do you like them or do you think they suck thread.

I think as bands get older they loose all sense of what made them great - its like KISS now; they are more like a KISS tribute band than the awesome outfit that was responsible for ALIVE I
