My mate worked at channel 7 and told me that ratings took a real dive right after that, which they attributed to Basil having a go at Simmo.

They shrugged it off at the time, assuming people would be back in a week or so, but apparantly they are still seeing lower numbers even now.

And so they should - it was as below the belt as you can get, just for the sake of sensationalism.

When I did a tour the other day the guide mentioned they’re trying to get roof walks in the pipeline, just so much red tape to get through.

It was a bit underwhelming I thought. Some good footage but given this was supposed to be about the coaches being mic’d up there was too much commentary and not enough from the coaches especially since a lot of what they said has popped up elsewhere

Also thought it odd that they chose to finish on the sombre note of Buckley’s post game address and aside from the celebration in our coaches box on the siren nothing more from Simmo.

At least we have that excellent piece on the Mcgovaryshee passage to win the game

The only real plus I got from the footage was seeing that Varcoe was no-where near smothering Yeo's kick

My key takeaway.

~ 40 seconds in, when Simmo is talking about what defines the group in the pre-game he says that the result of the GF won't define them but what is on the whiteboard (points off camera) is what defines them and reels a few off. Shredder is the one to turn his head and have a good long look at the whiteboard.

Someone with skillz could make a nice little montage around that.

I thought it was interesting to look at what was emphasised (and understand this was edited). Simmo stressed culture and context (e.g. family, so close to running over them), while Buckley was more about game specifics.

Maybe reading too much into this: perhaps the Eagles knew what to do, as a group, because they'd been there before and just needed to be reminded why it was important, whereas Collingwood needed to be told what to do. You can imagine which is going to stand up better under pressure.

Yes, I still get flat seeing their run of goals, as though it will somehow ruin a game I already know the result of.

I am a big fan of Huddo and was glad he called 2006. Maybe he rehearsed the 'who could have thought the sequel would be just as good as the original?' but it was still one of the best closing lines in a GF (and better than Quartermain in 2005 in my biased opinion).

The trash he was saying about Gaff and the club after the Gaff hit was despicable but he more than made up for that with an unbiased, great call of the GF.

Honestly reckon I’ve watched it 15-20 times, and all the little videos I could find on YouTube etc. I reckon I could just about recite the bloody thing word for word. It just never gets old.
