WOW ............... Three picks in a row: 67, 68 & 69.

Eastcoasteagle Come on down.

Pssst there is a kid that's out Eastern Rangers way, thats just begging to be on an AFL list....... in fact I debated strongly with myself if I should take him or Stagg at pick 55.

Will be interested to see if you are tempted to take him.
Cant believe he is still on the board.

Of course if you pass on him I will gladly take him with pick 75 ;) , so by all means fell free to pass on him.

Haha, he is my first cab off the rank and I too was a bit shocked he was still there. I was nervously watching the last few picks, praying he slip through.

Pick 67 - Jake Soligo (Eastern Ranges)

Jake is a hard running midfielder with good skills but mainly his kicking, he's also very good overhead and ranks elite for defensive pressure. Jake split his time this year between on ball and on a wing and knows how to find it through hard running which also results in him hitting the scoreboard.

He had a slow start to 2021 which baffled a few as he was a highly ranked junior, but after a breakout game versus Sandy Dragons this year (29 disposals, 8 marks, 10 tackles, 3 rebound 50s, 6 inside 50's) he finished the season really strongly and capped it off with a solid game versus Vic Country with 2 goals.

2021 Nab league Averages
- 22.3 disposals (26.5 in the last 4 games)
- 6.3 tackles
- 6 marks
- 1.9 reb 50
- 3.7 in 50

The above stats give a goon indication on Jake's running capacity, with his rebound 50 and inside 50 stats and marks per game. But most hard running mids don't generally rank elite for tackles per game, showing he has a good contested side to his game. Jake has all the attributes and for mine is a diamond in the rough.

I was at this game this year versus Sandringham, and this was when he shot up in my estimations and became someone I wanted the Eagles to consider with one of our second round picks.

Thanks to Carbine Chaos for picking Charlie Dean on my behalf last night for Port Adelaide, I wanted a big guy down back for them as I think they need a bit of depth in that department and after winning the Fothergill - Round - Mitchell award for best young player in the Vfl this year, he’s a plug’n play option.

Pick 63 - Charlie Dean - Key Defender, 195cm, 85kg

The VFL’s Fothergill-Round-Mitchell medallist – awarded to the best young player in the competition – has been a golden ticket to the AFL in recent years. And intercept key defender Dean looms as a chance to join the long list of mature-age recruits after testing well at the national combine. Dean, 19, averaged 15 disposals, eight intercepts and seven marks (three intercept marks) for Williamstown in seven VFL games, excelling with his strong hands overhead and ability to read the play. The 195cm tall previously played as a forward for the Sandringham Dragons.

This be my boy . ✅

Excellent pick.

He's all yours.
Damn you called my bluff, as I wanted to take Jordan Lukac!

Pick 68: Eric Benning - Claremont FC

But that said, Eric Benning has plenty of quality as a ruck/fwd and is still pretty raw. A few years in the system and this guy could be a special talent.
196cm and has exceptional athleticism, and looks equally as good in the ruck or as a key forward.

Hailing from Kimberley region, but has been playing for Claremont this season and has put together a fine season at Colts level regularly putting together 12-16 disposals a game, 2-4 tackles and plenty of hitouts. He looked equally as good playing for the Western Australian side.

He is a great target forward, as he always creates a contest and if he doesn't mark it always bring it to ground and provides real pressure for a big man. He has a great leap, and would work well with Grundy in a few years when he's developed a bit more.

If Collingwood can develop him, he could become a great player.

Is the 2021 draft depth really as good as it seems?

Seems unusually deep.

IMO it’s good draft cohort.
Bit thin on top quality at the pointy end but there is very good depth.

Not much difference quality wise from pick 15 through to the end of the second round, first half dozen in the third round are normal mid second round quality.

After the mid third round it’s the same crap shoot as any other year.

In a few years with the benefit of hindsight there wil be some real gems that get taken late in this draft as the exposed form and lack of games will mix up the smokies and sliders big time, you need to also factor in that its a cohort of two compromised draft years.

Pick 69: Jase Burgoyne (Woodville West-Torrens)

I'm very happy with this pick that is wasn't matched. It is pick 69 so I'm not jumping for joy, but he's a very solid pick and another who if the Pies get his development right they'll have a very good player on their hands. He's the son of Peter Burgoyne, who is considered a Port great.
Stands at 185cm, he moves really well and makes smart decisions with the ball in hand but he probably needs to tidy up his kicking a tad as at times it lets him down.

He played three senior games for WW-T and played well averaging 15.7 disposals with a disposal efficiency of 89%, he also played 4 reserves games where he averaged 18.8 disposals going at 96%. This shows he's got senior football experience, which maybe a concern for a few gives his playing weight of 65kg but he's very much outside player who using his running and link up play to good effect. He was simply too good for the u18s where he averaged 28.8 disposals at 87%.

I went into this thinking I had my three picks locked in Soligo, Lukac and Paton but at the death changed my mind.
Another I considered was an absolutely smokie that I recently saw play for GWV Rebels and really impressed me - Jamieson Ballantyne. He's a tall winger who is running machine, good skills and isn't afraid of the hard ball. I actually think he could go top 50 on draft night!

But the Pies would be very happy with Diacos, Soligo, Benning and Burgoyne.

Pies changed their mind on him as NGA

Dib does some nice things, but he's very small and his skills aren't elite.

Yeah I know they renounced their rights to him and you didn’t have the opportunity to match. Just thought it’d be funny if it worked out that way in real life :D

Quiet!!! Some of us have picks left. 😜

You know better than I but I thought JB looked pretty damn good from the videos I could find.

This will be a good PD to look back on in 4-5 years

Also, you didnt take your ball magnet? Why mate?
