What rubbish, the fact we beat up on bottom 10 teams means we are above them and should be put in with a different group of teams (the top 8), although at the very bottom as the worst team since we can't beat the other teams in that group. The teams that finish at the bottom of the top 8/just outside it are always sides that destroy teams below them and lose against teams above them. There's no such thing as "deserving" to make the finals, if you make it you make it, if you don't then bad luck.

A question concerning this.

What if we finish eighth and the Dickers finish 5th and we beat them in the derby final.
Then we potentially play Port and miracles happen and we beat Port in Adelaide and play...Hawks in a prelim who we lose to by 30 points.

Did we deserve to finish 4th using the same logic that we shouldn't have been in the eight in the first place? Maybe Richmond deserved to finish fourth then in our place because they deserved to finish eighth.

It's a load of bullshit. You finish where you finish and beat who you beat to get there.

In that scenario, Richmond deserve to finish 4th and therefore our draft selections will be swapped with Richmond's.

Out of the 5 teams in contention we are probably the most deserving. Come Sunday we will know for sure who is most deserving because whoever makes it, deserves it.

But let's not kid anyone here - the teams who finish 7 and 8 each year are also rans. They don't deserve finals but in saying that I don't have a problem with a final 8 system.

We have come home stong which wasn't seen coming that is for sure. What I've liked lately is the ball movement, hence better goal kickers. We shot ourselves in the foot earlier in the year losing the close games.

We would just be cannon fodder like all 7 and 8 teams

I'd be rapt if we made it don't get me wrong. After last years finish to the year
To me it makes little difference. Maybe having Shuey, Gaff, Darling play some finals footy may be of some benefit and hold us in good stead for future finals, but I don't think making it or not making it will have much bearing on our development towards flag contention.

Well, let's say Richmond win and make 8th then they deserve it more than the other 4 teams.......
You've just said that whoever makes the 8 deserves to play finals and then proceeded to say whichever teams finish 7th or 8th don't deserve finals in the following paragraph.
That's what the other poster bolded.

EDIT: Either way I'd much prefer playing finals that not playing finals, regardless of where we sit on the ladder or if we are actually contenders.

Why are we still talking about this?

Author: 5 teams, 1 position, WCE least deserve
Me 1: Whoever makes it most out of those 5 deserves it more than the other 4
Me 2: In saying that, 7 and 8 aren't worthy of playing finals

Sure, I could have explained it better but not sure why we are pointing out my ambiguity. Probably because it's more exciting that the actual thread and the author of the discussed article.

I think we should move on and discuss the pros and cons of US military involvement in the middle east.

We are discussing this because it is the subject of the thread. If you didnt want to discuss it, why bother posting in this thread.
You said 7 and 8 dont deserve finals, which is effectively agreeing with the author of the articles proposal for a top 6.
But at the same time you say, you dont mind final 8 format.

It IS ambiguous. Not being a true contender is not the same as not deserving to play finals.

I see. So you want to start a fight over not much at all?

No, you're actually mistaken. I simply responded to one of your original posts and addressed the actual subject material, yet you responded by asking me why i was talking about the thread topic as if I've wronged you somehow.

Im simply highlighting that you are in some ways agreeing with the premise of the article.
People seem to think he's suggesting that Richmond, Collingwood or Gold Coast or Adelaide are more deserving of finals than the Eagles, when my interpretation of the article is that he's simply arguing that finals % isnt an accurate way of determining which teams should advance to finals if the finish on the same number of points.

It's hard to tell if youre agreeing with the author or not but like I said, if you dont want to discuss it, why did you bother posting?

I think it is a little crazy that we're still in contention.

I don't think we're such a poor side that the whole system requires a re-think.

Blame the other four or so sides that haven't been good enough to sew up a spot prior to now either.
every team that misses out only has themselves to blame. we have dropped multiple games we should have won (most notably carlton and essendon), collingwood have collapsed in a heap, richmond started the year 3-10 which is so far down on what they are capable of it's not funny and adelaide have dropped games they should have won such as against melbourne, us and possibly others i can't remember off the top of my head.

As I thought. You want to pick a fight on the internet over a nothing thread and a nothing post. Barrrugaaah!
