'Return the Wings' is mostly advocated here as royal and wings, not navy with wings as posted on the Eagles website. The club have misappropriated the "Return the Wings" idea and have used it to base 'Return the Wings' on something other than its original intent. This is devious; and its seemingly designed to bring about, by manipulation, a plausible reason for an outcome they've likely already decided upon. For the Eagles to use navy and wings as the "return the wings" guernsey is manipulative, dishonest and shows themselves as not paying attention and/or not giving a **** as to what those involved in the RtW campaign have been saying wrt colour scheme. WCE, take your navy and wings misrepresentation of the RtW campaign and shove it up your arse!

Still, I would rather wings with navy than the current one.

It's in the thread itself, but a couple of RTW guys had a meeting with some of the heads at WCE and discussed this face to face. They wouldn't budge on the navy and if we wanted the movement to succeed we were going to have to accept navy wings. It isn't ideal, but a lot of the RTW supporters agreed it was best to get wings instated firstly, then worry about colours later. As long as the wings come back, we can make a second push down the track to ditch navy.

Had this sitting unopened past 10 days or so. Opened it just then, voted gold wings with royal blue. At least I'm not the only one...
When you say that you voted for royal blue, did you still click on "return the wings" ? Or "neither"?

For a start, we are lucky the club have even listened to us at all. Secondly we are even more lucky that they were willing to sit down with a few on here and tell us things that in reality we had no right or obligation to be told. They have given us more time and feedback than any run of the mill fan deserves or expects.

Then they say, ok we hear what you are saying, you make some good points, we like your ideas, so let's put it to a vote and see what happens. But we are pretty adamant that navy will still be our home colour, as it had been for 20 years, so it will be navy wings v tri panel.

Now most of us can accept that we may and likely will, have to compromise in order to get the wings back full time. Then some on here start saying "but, but, but we want royal wings for home" even though the club have clearly said its navy or nothing, accept it and move on.

I have no idea how people think we have some sort of power in this thing, and that we deserve some sort of final say. We hold no cards, we have no power, if we aren't willing to compromise and we stuff this thing up because some are too stubborn and think they can "make a difference" or "fight the system" then we are fools and have ruined a real chance to get something back that we all want.

In the end we want the wings, let's not stuff that up :)

I love the nature of this discourse.

I'll accept a set of Navy Wings over the tri panel nonsense any day of the week.

What is the clubs attitude towards that "white" jumper.

I think they said the clash jumper is a separate issue, so for now it's just navy wings vs tri panel. I for one could accept seeing the current clash for 2 or 3 games in 2016 if we have wings for every other game. Then maybe in 2017 or 18 we can get the clash changed too, or maybe just get rid of it all together and have 2 jumpers like heaps of clubs have ATM. They all seem to manage just fine without a third

I don't think members should feel "lucky" that the club listened to them. Members are the club's lifeblood afterall, and members shouldn't forget that. So, to feel lucky is underestimating their own importance. The club providing feedback should be expected and standard, not seen as the club going out of their way and acting nobly.

I'm currently under no illusions, nor ever have been, that the fans hold any power in deciding what's what at the WCE. But, just because some fans are happy to compromise, I don't think the RtW campaign, as a whole, should be so quick to fold and accept. It's the campaign by the fans, but WC has co-opted it by naming RtW as navy and wings and turned the RtW campaign into something different from the original royal and wings intent. The shut up and accept it crowd have seemingly folded quickly and easily - like a cheap suit. Should WC RtW supporters be happy that WC return the wings? Yes, but it shouldn't be satisfied to the point of ending the campaign there. The campaign should end when the entirety of its goals are met, not when the club has set a compromise that it was seemingly happy to deliver anyway. Let's not merely accept as final that the club threw the fans a bone just to shut them up and be happy with it. The RtW campaign needs to continually campaign or risk missing out on the entirety of its wants. If you don't continually ask and put the pressure for change on you won't get. Organizations don't change such trivial matters like guernsey aesthetics on their own volition without a pragmatic reason. So, the campaign can't be left to deal with colour issues down the track, for the club can say that they've just done as you've asked and returned the wings, whilst waiting another 15 years before taking into consideration its fans.

Well getting rid of the tri panel will go a long to eliminating a lot of the home clashes we have with Richmond, StKilda ect...

The club came out and responded directly saying there must be a compromise in that the home jumper needs navy blue.

They didn't brush over it, there's nothing devious about it.

"There has to be a compromise" doesn't mean for WC to hijack the RtW campaign and intent of royal and wings. The club went about co-opting the RtW campaign by making the RtW option "navy and wings" instead of its initial intent of royal and wings. If in the face to face meeting that some here may have had with the WCE, if they allowed such co-opting by the WCE over the fans' campaign then they've sold the campaign well short.

Nothing's been hijacked. We asked to return the wings, and it looks like that's what's going to happen. Colour is and always was a secondary issue which there is less agreement on, even among the RTW group.

Seriously, we have a grass roots campaign where the club have clearly listened and looks like it has worked and people still stick the boots into the club.

RtW has much been promoted as a return to the club's roots, as well as association with its successful period, as the ideal. Such an ideal comes back to the use of royal and wings. This has been promoted much by campaigning fans. To now dismiss this reasoning as merely "secondary" after the club re-branded/hijacked RtW as "navy and wings" in its online poll is to somewhat diminish the many WC fans' voices that have campaigned for more than what the club have offered. If you're happy with receiving only a portion of what was asked good for you and those of like mind who're so easily satisfied.

Well said Larrikin.
The club hasn't sold the campaign short. They listened to what the fans wanted and embraced it, but within their own preferences. That's fair enough.
I'm no great fan of the navy, but I for one will be stoked to see us in the wings each week. Thanks for listening and acting, WCE.

I think for those wanting to return the royal wings, it'd be best to just vote for the 'return the wings' option, and then in the comments section say something along the lines of prefer royal, but navy > tri panel. You get to let them know you would prefer royal, but don't convolute the message of returning the wings! Anyway, as has been stated the club won't be budging from the navy any time soon, so i think we should be grateful that we have gotten this far.

That's what a lot of folks have done by the sounds of it. Vote RTW, but comment that royal is preferred.

Then what's the away jumper?
Why does it have to be different? It's ridiculous that we even have a 'home' and 'away' jumper - look at Essendon, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Richmond, Freo etc. All have great, iconic jumpers that they always wear unless there's a clash. Just make the current 'away' jumper our regular one, and the Wings with white shorts as the clash. The whole 'home' and 'away' jumper garbage is exclusively for merchandising.

We would all prefer royal as our home guernsey.....it isn't going to happen, the club have said so in person and straight out, I don't know what more people need to hear to realise that navy is going to be the colour, whether it be tri panel or wings. To use the argument about history and heritage, royal was our home guernsey for 6 seasons, navy 20 so much a people don't like it, it has it's own history.
