So said Lynden Dunn in his post match interview.
Now i know interviews after a game like that woud'nt be easy
& what can you say but i am astounded at some of the lines that
come out of our players mouths sometimes?
A wake up call, has'nt Lynden been around longer than two weeks,
the wake up call i thought would of happened about 7 years ago not
round 2 2014,the players have got to stop looking for excuses & start
putting in on a more regular basis but as we know that is asking for way to much
from this current list of players bar the exception of very few!

Maybe rather than an excuse it was his way of saying to the playing group "pull your fingers out". Hard to tell, but I agree, either way the supporters are sick of it.

I think Roosy more than anyone would have got a wake up call, we're surely worse than he thought. He used the "f" word just like Neeld did same time last year "fundamentals".

Hopefully (unlike Neeld) he will actually do something about it rather than look grim very week. I have faith, he said their number one role is to teach.

Ummm. If the club needs a "wake up call", then we're in a far far worse position than I thought.

I'm not sure what planet Dunny has been living on for the past 12-18 months??

Hopefully, unlike Neeld, his reputation will allow him more than a mere 33 games to make changes. I know we're suffering big time, but our club is so incredibly ****ed up beyond recognition that there's not going to be a "short term" fix to this situation. I seriously cannot see us becoming relevant for at least 3-4 years. Thinking that even a man like Roos can fixed things in 2 years, let alone 5 months, is ludicrous.

Without hearing the interview, perhaps Dunn was eluding to the optimism that came about after a couple decent pre season performances. It's a wake up call that we are still shit and a long way back.

I wouldn't place much stock in post-match player interviews. Its all "yeah/nah the boys played well, take it week by week anyway" and I don't know what else Dunn really could have said.

For what it's worth, the Eagles are top 4 material IMO. They dismantled our midfield in Perth 2 weeks ago with such ease. They are a very good side, while getting drubbed isn't a good feeling (we lost by 10+ goals), there is a long way to go in season 2014 just yet.

This. Yes we were thrashed and it was bad but eagles are going to be contenders this year and we were always going to get sliced and diced by the combination of their midfield and forwardline. We had a thirdstring ruck division facing up against the best ruck team in the league and we had no forwardline to kick goals against one of the best forwardlines in the league.

As far as I'm concerned one of the biggest issues we're facing at the moment is that we are replacing best 22 talls with VFL level talls. I would rather we play talented mids and smalls to get as close to best 22 as we can. Because those replacements are simply liabilities at the moment.

WE HAVE HAD MORE WAKE UP CALLS THAN THIS BLOKE

The Eagles didn't dismantle our midfield though, they just kicked goals while we couldn't.

I didn't infer that they did with Melbourne's midfield, I only stated that, that was how they tore through us. Anyway, as I said its a long season.

Agree that the stats say no, our midfield was even with WCE, but after watching the game again, **** me, their clearances were 5000% better than ours, clean ball into the 50 for a score almost every time out of the centre while ours were just blind bombs or shit handballs to no one, practically useless. Same with 50% of them around the ground. Our midfield was given a lesson...

How much of our possessions were kicking it around in the back half. I'm pretty sure the crowd booed it one point.

Yeah I think the crowd were definitely getting restless. We tried the switch quite a few times, it only worked on maybe one or two occasions and we'd only be able to get it halfway before giving it up again.

I don't mind chipping back (it's ridiculous when people boo it immediately) but it's gotta be pulled off quickly with precision, a combination of skills which is eluding us at the moment...

It annoys me no end that our fans (some of) boo and hiss when we slow it down and switch the play. Sure, us frustrating and we all want to see fast, exciting play, but it's just so simplistic.
Firstly, it displays a complete lack of knowledge as to how Roos wants us to play, not to mention how half the competition is playing this year.
Secondly, it displays ignorance to our situation as a team - we lack the confidence, the fitness, the skill and the KPF marking targets to really play any other way and not get destroyed on the rebound.

Of course we have to speed it up, but that will come in time with greater confidence in the game plan. Patience, people.

Agree wholeheartedly.
