Eagles finishing 2nd this year makes this a ripper trade for them
GC probably expected a huge drop off like the rest of us

I did a points breakdown for the trade when it happened for various ladder positions after wondering if it was a good deal for WC.

WC finishing bottom 2 and GC top 8 was the just break even for GC.

But using last years ladder positions it was daylight robbery for WC. Even if both teams finished around 8-10, there was still a huge points bump for WC.

    Crazy trade.

    It's going to be:

    WCE: 17 OR 18 + 50
    for
    GC: 20 + 21 + 26 + 37

One of those picks was Liam Ryan. According to draft calc we end up 1700 points ahead roughly equal to pick 7 on its own in value.

One late 1st rounder for 4x 2nd rounders (3 on them early).

    Thanks Gold Coast.

After compo and priority picks get given out this Eagles 1st may end up as pick 21/22. Huge steal for the Egales.

This was a bit interesting. Pick downgrade for 4 second rounders.

    Thats a crikey.

We didn’t need all those second rounders, plus it was a last minute trade to try and get Weller without trading pick 2

Yeah no doubt we did, priority was Weller that didn’t work out either. Would have been good if Freo did take it because it would have been their problem, not ours

Gold Coast probably would have taken huge reaches with those picks anyway. I present as evidence Will Powell.

Not saying whether they'd have turned out well or not since we can't know beforehand. Just that they'd have reached.

Gee, imagine if after all the free agency compo picks are dished out our first ends up being after 21, the highest pick they gave us last year?

Swapping picks doesn't really influence player retention.

How does Clayton still have a job in this area...he is clueless. I'm assuming his new position is a demotion.

Nfi how to build a list from scratch and this trade plus the Weller trades were amateur hour.

Well at least he is not your list manager but just a personal in your recruiting department .

Weller deal his hand been forced by Lachie, Dew and Evans , but should had done Ablett deal earlier and swap those second Rd pick for this year pick . Anyway maybe he is good at scouting players rather than making decision ( list manager ) .

One of the worst trades of the last 15 years.

The Weller deal not far behind.

Great attempt to kill a football club completely.
